MFA1 PEPTIDE TARGET DESCRIPTION:

Synonym Names for MFA1 peptide: MFA1; Mating hormone A-factor 1

The alpha factor pheromone arrests yeast in G1 of the cell cycle. Alpha factor mating pheromone induces the
expression of mating genes. Alpha factor mating pheromone changes in nuclear architecture. and Alpha factor
mating pheromone polarized growth toward the mating partner. STE2 encodes the alpha factor pheromone
receptor (a GPCR) found on mating-type a cells in the yeast.

Function: The active factor is excreted into the culture medium by haploid cells of the A mating type and acts on
cells of the opposite mating type (type alpha). It mediates the conjugation process between the two types by
inhibiting the initiation of DNA synthesis in type alpha cells and synchronizing them with type A.
Subcellular Location: Cell membrane; lipid-anchor; cytoplasmic side (Potential).

Miscellaneous: Present with 28900 molecules/cell.
