1.  It takes Farid 25 minutes to walk to the car park and 45 to drive to work.

should he get out of the house in order to  get to work at 9:00 a.m.? 

Solution:

The time Farid should get out of the house is 7.50 a.m.

25minutes + 45 minutes = 70 minutes = 1 hour 10 minutes

0900 - 0110 = 0750 = 7.50 a.m.

2.  Linda bought 3 notebooks at $1.20 each; a box of pencils at $1.50 and a box of pens at
$1.70. How much did Linda spend? 

Solution:

The amount of money Linda spent is equal to (3x$ 1.20)+ $1.50 +$1.70 = $6.80

3.  Tim and Arvin have a total of 49 toys. If Arvin has 5 more toys than Tim, how many toys
does each one have?

Solution:

49-5=44 44/2=22 toys

Tim has 22toys and Arvin has 27toys.

4.  Nina can eat a quarter of a pizza in one minute. How long does it take her to eat one
pizza and a half? 

Solution:

The time of Nina take to eat one pizza and a half is equal to 6 x 1 minute = 6 minutes

5. Suresh read the quarter of the time that Lim read. Lim read only two-fifth of the time that
Sasha read. Sasha read twice as long as  Ikmal. If Ikmal read 5 hours, how long did Suresh
read? 

Solution:

Suresh = 1/4 Lim

Lim = 2/5 Sasha

Sasha = 2x Ikmal

The time taken for Suresh read is equal to 1/4 x 2/5 x 2 x 5 hours = 1 hour
