phasis mine). Obviously there
are many parenting ways and styles. But
according to this scripture, there is “the
way”—the best way, which refers to
God’s way. It is said that the Bible is our
life’s instruction manual, and it is also the
instruction manual for raising our children.
If you are like me, you always wonder if
you are raising your kids the “right” way.
Before I had a relationship with the Lord, I
just winged it. Whatever I “felt” was right,
is the way I talked to and raised my
kids. Then, as I began to read God’s
Word, I began to see that God actu-
ally left us some great instructions.
God’s Word offers us so much encour-
agement and hope. And, as parents, that’s
exactly what we are supposed to offer our
kids. The book of Deuteronomy outlines

God’s Way

God’s direct commands to us as parents:
Fix these words of mine in your hearts and
minds; tie them as symbols on your hands
and bind them on your foreheads. Teach
them to your children, talking about them
when you sit at home and when you walk
along the road, when you lie down and
when you get up. Write them on the door-
frames of your houses and on your gates, so
that your days and the days of your children
may be many in the land that the LORD
swore to give your forefathers, as many as
the days that the heavens are above the
earth. (Deuteronomy 11:18-21)

God first instructs us parents to seal the
Word in our hearts and minds continually.
In those days, the Jews would write scrip-
 tures from the Law of Moses on scrolls of
parchment. They would keep them on
their hands and hang them on their fore-
heads so they would never forget them.
Then, God instructs us to teach the Word
to our children at four different times of
the day:
1. When we sit at home;
2. When we walk along the road (which
today means “drive along the highway”);
3) When we lie down; and
4) When we get up and start the whole
process again. This pretty much covers
every time we are with our kids!

tinually upon your heart and tie them about

you sleep, they shall keep you; and when
you waken, they shall talk with you. For the

discipline are the way of life.

Kids are also instructed to keep in their
heart (their inner man, mind and will)
what their parents teach them. They are
to constantly remember and consider
what is spoken to them. So, if you ever
wonder if your kids are listening, they are.
God’s Word promises that. Teach your
kids God’s Word, moral and honest things,
and respect for the Lord, always. A child
raised with God’s Word will eventually be

of Lupus!
A Compelling Story of God’s
Miraculous Healing Power
In 1991, I battled with severe pain in
my body. One year later, in 1992, I was
diagnosed with Systemic Lupus E. (lupus),
a disorder of the immune system, along
with arthritis. Lupus shuts down inter-
nal organs when it flares up or is out of
control. Medical science has not discov-
ered a cure for this disease. The only relief
known to mankind is medication taken
for a lifetime, which can control the pain,
but not eliminate it. Without medication,
death is imminent.

For the past 18 years I took
about 30 different types of
medications—each to no avail.
The pain was persistent and never-end-
ing. I had all the effects of this disorder:
swelling, depression, anxiety, and extreme
fatigue—together lasting for weeks at
a time. All these things consumed my
entire body. My gall bladder dried up,
only working 23% of the time—and
was eventually removed. My fun-loving,
family-filled life came to a complete halt
because I was in constant pain.

At that time, I had a 3 year-old son. I was
told that I could never have any more
children, as the medication could possibly
cause severe deformities or even death for
the baby. Eight years after being diag-
nosed, I found myself pregnant with my
second son. I was immediately advised
by my OB-GYN that I needed to terminate
the pregnancy. My faith and belief in
Jesus Christ did not allow me to do that. I
decided to receive my child however God
wanted him to come, and l began to pray
fervently to my Lord.
Because my pregnancy was “high risk”, I
had to see my doctor weekly. After every
appointment, I would stop at my Pastors’
home. There, I would painfully tell them
all the negative results from the various
tests done on the baby. Isaiah 53:1 says,
“Who has believed our report and to whom
has the arm of the LORD been revealed? My
pastor would read to me all the scripture
promises that the Lord had for me and my
baby. Those were healing words, because
my life and that of my baby’s depended
on them! Today, because of my BIG God, I
have a very healthy and godly 10 year-old
son.
Ironically, throughout the pregnancy I did
not have any pain at all. After the delivery,
though, the pain came back and with a
vengeance! Within four months I was not
even able to walk because of the pain. At
that time I went to see a different doc-
tor. He checked my lupus levels, and told
me that they were high and that I should
have been in a coma! He proceeded to
prescribe me eight (8) different medica-
tions and an injection every other day.
This continued for nine (9) years with not
much relief.
In August, 2009, the pain became so
acute and constant in my feet and lower
legs, I could not even wear shoes. By the
end of the school year, in May of this year,
I was at the school where I work, and I
needed to get into my classroom where
my pills were locked up. I was in so much
pain this day and I just wanted to go in,
take every pill I had, and end my life. I
was desperate! I walked into a teacher’s
classroom to tell her to help me. She is
a Christian woman who saw and heard
my plight. She said to me, “Have you had
enough already, Carmen? Do you trust
God can heal you?” I told her I did, but I
was so frustrated after having lived like
this for 19 years. She told me, “You need
to go to a prayer meeting tomorrow. My
sister, Evangelist Diana Morales will be
preaching there.” I agreed and told her I
would make it there, even with the ago-
nizing pain I was feeling.
When I walked into the house where the
meeting was being held, I could barely
walk. It took me forever to make it into the
living room, but I managed.
In desperation I cried out loudly, “TODAY
IS MY DAY! I CAN’T TAKE IT ANYMORE!
I’M GETTING HEALED TODAY!”
Diana began sharing the Word of God

and after the Word was shared, she came
and laid hands on my legs. My lower
legs were the most sensitive. Anytime
anything touched them, it was excruciat-
ing. When she laid hands, I felt pain, and
then suddenly a heat going right through
them. She kept her hands on me and
lifted my feet and prayed for them, curs-
ing lupus at the root, just as Jesus cursed
the fig tree (Matthew 21) and it withered.
The next thing I knew, she asked me to
stand up. When I did, I rose with NO PAIN
in my body for the first time in so many
years! I began to walk around the room
praising and thanking God for removing
this agony from my body completely.
Diana told me to keep on walking…
marching even, lifting my pain-free legs
up high, thanking God and declaring
what He had just done for me! After all
these years, I was finally healed! Only our
miracle-working
God can do that.
After all
Shortly after this, I these years
went to see my doc- I was ,
finally
tor. He confirmed h e a l e d!
that the level of
lupus in my body
was down to noth-
ing. He said to me, “I’ve healed you!”
I said, “No, you didn’t.” Then he said, “The
medicine I gave you worked and it has
healed you.” I proceeded to reach for my
purse and pull out a piece of paper and
said to him, “Are you referring to this pre-
scription? I never filled it.” I said, “My God
has supernaturally healed me…for good!”
Today, I am literally walking, leaping and
praising God for His goodness and faith-
fulness! When man has no cure, God has
one waiting just for YOU! He is the Doctor
of doctors—The Great Physician.

Choose to Believe in Miracles. A
miracle is the supernatural intervention of
God in the problems of your life. You will
either be forced to live in the potential of
your faith, or with the consequences of
your doubt. (Read Mark 9:23.)
Never Doubt The Love of God. Calvary
was a miracle. God’s mercy and forgive-
ness are proof that He cares. (Read John
3:16.)
Focus Your Faith. Be very specific when
you ask God for a miracle. (Read Matthew
7:9-11.)
Hold Out For The Best. CLING to the
promises of God. Never consider any
alternative to your miracle. (Read James
1:6-8.)
Discard Your Doubts. Miracles happen
only to the believing, So, BELIEVE. (Read
Matthew 21:21.)

Respect the Law of Agreement. Two
are better than one. God celebrates unity.
He honors agreement regarding your
miracle. Be quick to recognize a God-sent
prayer partner. (Read Matthew 18:18-19.)
Speak To Your Mountain. Your moun-
tain is any problem that you are facing.
Address it with authority and command it
to move in the name of Jesus. (Read Mark
11:23.)

Confess And Forsake Any Known Sin.
Guilt Is The Thief of Faith. When you permit
sin in your life, you become uncomfort-
able in the presence of God. Confess your
failure. He forgives. (Read Psalm 66:18.)
Pursue Your Miracle. Pursuit Is The
Proof of Desire. When you really want
something, you are willing to reach for it.
Miracles happen only to those who seek
them. (Matthew 7:7-8.)
Accept The Unexplainable. You can
select your miracle, but only God can
choose the method or means by which
He sends it to you. His methods are puz-
zling, unpredictable and always illogical
to the natural mind of man. (Read Isaiah
55:8-9.)

today are subject to change. You Are
Never As Far From A Miracle As It First Ap-
pears. (Read Isaiah 40:4-5.)
Practice Faith-Talk. Your words are de-
ciding tomorrow. Every word you speak
today will paint a portrait of Faith, both in
your mind and the minds of those around
you. Season every conversation with
Faith-Talk. (Read Philippians 4:8.)

4:11-12.)
Create A Miracle-Climate. Atmosphere
Matters. An atmosphere of praise and
worship can unlock your faith for miracles.
(Read 2 Kings 3:15.)

Do Not Limit God. You cannot out-think

the One who made you. He delights in
performing the Impossible. Do not un-
derestimate Him. (Read Mark 10:27.)

be willing to be taught and mentored by

T
ithing involves valuing God.
Psalm 24:1 and 1 Corinthians
10:26 say, The earth is the Lord’s
and the fullness thereof; the world,
and they that dwell therein. We
see that God claims ownership to the
entire earth and all that it contains. That
entitles Him to everything. He wants us
to recognize that He has furnished us
with the capital for man to transact busi-
ness, and gives us the heart that beats
within us, the hands we need to work
with, and the feet that take us to work.
Plus, He gives us the air we breathe. He
wants us to remember that and honor
Him.
 
Some believe that tithing is only a “law
principle”. However, the patriarchs
tithed 430 years before the law. When
Abraham rescued Lot from the kings
of the north, he met Melchizedek, a
king and priest, and a type of Christ. In
Genesis 14:20 we see that he blessed
Abraham in the name of God Most High,
possessor of heaven and earth.
Abraham recognized that God had
given him the victory and was owner of
everything he had or would ever have.
Immediately, He gave a tithe of the
spoils of the recovered goods. The New
Testament refers to this in Hebrews 7:1-
11. Hebrews 7:8 says, And here men that
die receive tithes; but there he receiveth
them, of whom it is witnessed that he
liveth. Jesus Himself receives the tithe
personally!
 
The Bible tells us about Jacob in Gen. 28.
Jacob was known as a dishonest man
who lacked character.  Deceiving his
father and brother, he lied and cheated
his brother out of his birthright. Later,
he would have a name and character
change at Peniel, but prior to this he
was still a shady character. After hav-
ing a revelation at Bethel, he was so
impressed with a realization of how big
and wonderful his God was. He recog-
nized God’s claims upon what he pos-

sessed and said in Genesis 28:22 … of all
that thou shalt give me I will surely give the
tenth unto thee. This was long before the
law was instituted or before any “pros-
perity teaching” was given. Shouldn’t
we who are born again by the blood
of Jesus Christ recognize His goodness
even more?
 
Later we see the tithe incorporated into
the Law of Moses. This was not a new
thing. All ages and dispensations have
some things in common that are carried
from the old into the new. No moral law
has ever been changed. The only pos-
sible change is the intensity of it accord-
ing to God’s revelation of Himself.
Recognizing God’s claims upon the
earth and our lives is a universal moral
law written upon our hearts based on
His creatorship. He may emphasize
and increase His demands, but cannot
withdraw them.  
Tithing involves

Testament, because we have
a greater revelation of God
through His Son Jesus, we now
see that we cannot even hate
our brother. In the Old, we are
told not to commit adultery.  In
the New, we see that if a man
even looks at a woman with lust in his
heart, he has committed adultery.  In the
Old, they were asked to bring back 10%,
or they would be robbing God. In the
New, we want to go beyond not robbing
Him, and give above that in offerings.
Mary gave a whole year’s wages with
the alabaster box in John Chapter 12.
Another woman in the Bible gave her
last two mites, 100%, not 10%. These
women had met Jesus. Have you?
 Simple Faith
God just wants to be believed by some-
body. Have you ever noticed how the Bible
has promises that seem so illogical: speak
to the mountain and it will move, believe you
have received, agree as to touching it and it
shall be yours, call those things that are not as
if they were, by Jesus’ stripes you are healed,
give and it shall be given unto you? All of
these promises may seem illogical to our
natural mind, yet they are so powerful in
the life of a believer who truly applies them
to his or her life.
God doesn’t want us to place our ultimate
trust in man, banks, education, jobs, religion
or even technology, but only in Him does
He want us to completely trust. Jesus died
so that we could have life in abundance,
not only when you get to heaven, but here
on the earth as well (John 10:10). The Word
of God also says, The faithful shall abound
with blessings, (Prov. 28:20); The righteous
shall be recompensed upon the earth, (Prov.
11:31); God shows Himself strong to those
who place their trust in Him, (2 Chron. 16:9),

cares for His people.

I remember years ago, on one of many
occasions where I’ve had to apply these
truths to my life. My wife and I had been
battling some difficult financial situations
while attending Bible School. Both of us
were full-time Bible School students with
two kids and very limited income. We
hadn’t been there very long, and really
hadn’t found stable enough employment
to support us through school. We knew
we were supposed to be there, yet our faith
was being tested. Tuition was due, and the
Dean of the school had already announced
to everyone that tuition was due and if it
was not paid, we could not attend. Aside
from this, our rent was also due.
I have to admit that I was starting to get
discouraged. We were in our tiny living
room, when suddenly my wife received
the gift of faith in her spirit. She grabbed
the Bible, opened it to Deuteronomy 28,
which talks about God’s blessing upon the
faithful believer, and started reminding
God of His promises. She repeatedly raised
the Bible in the air and kept repeating the
scriptures over and over again for about an
hour declaring, “Didn’t you write this, Lord?”
She literally reminded God about what His
Word says for the believer.
Did you know that the Word of God says,
Put me in remembrance: let us plead together,
(Isaiah 43:26)? By this time, I had joined her

everything about us. He truly loves His chil-
dren and wants to supply our every need
in Jesus’ name—we just need to trust Him.

I know a preacher whose son became sick
with cancer. He prayed and believed with
all his heart that God would heal him. But
his son died. He became angry with God
and cried out to Him, “Where were You
when my son died?!”
A woman who works for me was divorced
after thirty-nine years of marriage. Her
husband left her. One day she found a
note from him telling her he was leav-
ing; he didn’t even discuss it with her.
She said to me, “Joyce, please pray for me
that I won’t get mad at
God, because if I don’t
have Him, I don’t have

thought, “If You’re really God, then why
is this happening to me?” Or “If You really
love me, then why haven’t You gotten
me out of this mess when I know full well
You could do it. Why are You letting me sit
in this mess?!” Or “It’s not fair and it’s not
right. What about me?” Or just “Why, God,
why? When, God, when?!”
Most of us have hoped and prayed for
something to happen a certain way but it
didn’t. And when this happened, we had
a choice to make: to react with offense
toward God or to trust
Him anyway.
Jesus said that offense
is a stumbling block. In
Matthew 11:6 He says,
“Blessed…is he who takes no offense at
Me and finds no cause for stumbling in or
through Me and is not hindered from see-
ing the Truth” (The Amplified Bible).
The Problem with Being Mad at God
There are many people in the body of
Christ who are offended at God because
they didn’t get something they wanted
the way they thought it should have hap-
pened. This attitude is dangerous because
being offended with God causes our
relationship with Him to stop progressing.
And it’s foolish to be mad at the One who
can help you when you’re struggling.

How to Resist Offense and
Keep Trusting God
Trusting Him is the key to being free of
worry, fear, anxiety, bitterness and distress
when we experience disappointments or

Psalms 107:20 says that God sent His Word and healed them.
Who is “them”? All of us!
The very best thing you can do is take daily dosages of God’s Word
by speaking them over your body.

Here are some scriptures that can help you with that.

Isaiah 53:5 With Jesus’ stripes you are Luke 9:6 The disciples went about
healed. (Pointing toward Jesus’ coming) healing everywhere.

1 Peter 2:24 By Jesus’ stripes you were
healed. (Pointing back to what Jesus did
for you)
Exodus 15:26 I am the Lord that heals
you.
Psalms 107:20 He sent His Word and
healed them.
Luke 9:11 Jesus healed them that had
need of healing.
Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same
yesterday, today and forever.

ROMANS 10:9-10 (Amplified) says,
Because if you acknowledge and confess
with your lips that Jesus is Lord and in
your heart believe (adhere to, trust in, and
rely on the truth) that God raised Him
from the dead, you will be saved. For with
the heart a person believes (adheres to,
trusts in, and relies on Christ) and so is
justified (declared righteous, acceptable
to God), and with the mouth he confesses
(declares openly and speaks out freely his
faith) and confirms [his] salvation.

As a Chaplain at Legacy Hospice I am constantly evaluating the needs of my patients. Hos-
pice is focused on the management and control of suffering while patients are in the final
stage of their life. My work is centered on the spiritual and emotional suffering of our pa-
tients. For me, there are two skills that are vital in caring for dying people…skills that every
human being can develop and employ: ACTIVE LISTENING, and CONGRUENCE.

As a society we do not practice the “art of listening” well. Most of us have learned to look like
we are listening, when really we’re just catching our breath and thinking of a story that tops
the one another person is telling us. But think about it: If you enjoy sharing your story, what
a gift it can be for you to listen attentively to the story of a hurting friend. Imagine if that
person is expressing the most important thoughts they have ever had…their fears, feelings
and frustrations as they prepare to leave this life behind. Your eye contact, your comments of
interest, your encouragement to continue, your selfless listening…these are gifts so valuable
to a hurting person, that they are impossible to measure.

The other gift or skill you and I need is “congruence”. This simply means to identify the emo-
tional level of another person and join them there. Many times we see it as our job to “cheer
people up”…to move them out of a “bad mood”. But if someone is in a deep and painful
reality, to know a friend “gets it” and is “emotionally present” with them is extremely helpful.
Simply put, when a person is telling you about their pain, offer your willingness to be with
them in their sadness rather than a light-hearted “quick-fix” comment. In case you doubt this,
ask someone you know who has gone through a serious loss, just what they missed most.
You will hear them say: “…someone who would listen…someone who got what I was going
through”.

I encourage you to develop the Art of Listening and the Art of Emotional Congruence.

Father God sent His Word to heal and
deliver us. Proverbs 4:22 tells us that God’s
Word is, “Life to those who find them, heal-
ing and health to all their flesh.” Jesus is the
Word made flesh. John 1:14 says that, “the
Word became flesh and dwelt among us,
and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the
only begotten of the Father, full of grace
and truth.” The Father sent Jesus, not only to
save us from our sins, but also to heal our
bodies. Everything that Jesus took upon
Himself, when He offered up His life was
done for you — to remove all traces of the
fall; to restore back everything that was lost.
On the cross, it was not only your sin that
was removed, but also your sickness and
disease.
“Surely he hath borne our griefs, and car-
ried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him
stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But
he was wounded for our transgressions, he
was bruised for our iniquities: the chastise-
ment of our peace was upon him; and with
his stripes we are healed.”  Isaiah 53:4-5 KJV
On the cross, Jesus bore our griefs. The He-
brew word “griefs” means malady; anxiety;
calamity. It is translated in different passag-
es as disease, grief and sickness and should

have been translated here as sickness. Jesus
body while hanging on the cross and be-
coming a substitute for us. Jesus also bore
our sorrows. The Hebrew word here means
anguish or affliction and is translated as
grief, pain and sorrow. Because Jesus bore
our griefs and sorrows, if we believe God’s
word to us, we can walk free from all and
any sickness, disease, anxiety, anguish and
affliction! He was wounded for our trans-
gressions; He was bruised for our iniquities:
the chastisement of our peace was upon
Him; and with His stripes we are healed!
“Who Himself bore our sins in His own
body on the tree, that we, having died to
sins, might live for righteousness — by
whose stripes you were healed.”  1 Peter
2:24 NKJV
Notice that Isaiah 53:5 is in the present
tense and 1 Peter 2:24 is in the past tense.
Neither of them says, “You will be healed
one day, in the future, maybe…” — they
both make healing a “done deal” for you.
In other words, as far as the Father is
concerned, you are in fact healed — you
just need to activate it in your life by add-
ing your faith to His Word. God told the
Israelites, “I am the Lord who heals you” (Ex.
15:26). Psalms 103:2-3 says, “Bless the Lord,
O my soul, And forget not all His benefits:
Who forgives ALL your iniquities, Who heals
ALL your diseases.”   Luke 5:17 NKJV “…And the power of the

meditate in it day and night, that
you may observe to do according to
all that is written in it. For then you will make

Many people believe that success is about
having good “luck”, being extra special, born
into the right family or being at the right
place at the right time. The truth is we all
have the capability to be extremely success-

ful. In fact, that is God’s will for our lives. In
the scripture above, it says that we are to
meditate on God’s Word day and night. In
Hebrew the word, “daily” means every day,

and the word, “night” means in adversity. It
goes on to say that you must each observe
to do what is written in it. (And that means
us, too.) It’s about taking the principles of
God and applying them in your life. Every
successful person simply applies God’s prin-
ciples in their life.
It goes on further to say that then you
make your way and then you will have
good success. Interestingly, it does not
mention that success is going to find you;
it says that you will find it! We can blame
all sorts of people, places and things for our
lack of it, or we can tighten our belts and
declare that it is God’s will for us to succeed
and we are going to make it! If you
keep aiming at it, eventually you
will hit it. And with God’s help, your
target becomes even clearer.
Now, it might take some bumps and
bruises along the way, but you will
get there. Galatians 6:9 says, And let
us not be weary in well doing: for in
due season we shall reap, if we faint
not. YOU SHALL REAP! The key is not
fainting, not giving up or losing heart.
Success is a road waiting to be paved
by you! It’s going to take faith, guts
and some level of risk. But in the
end, it will be well worth it. Be the
difference in your family, your neigh-
borhood and your city. Learn from others’
success, and don’t ever criticize it. When you
plan, plan BIG; set BIG goals; and trust our

Here is a list of characteristics, so you could
judge yourself/measure yourself against
the elements that make salespeople who
they are and successful at what they do.
And for those of you who hire salespeople,
a checklist of the real things to look for in a
potentially successful person.
NOTE WELL: If you want to succeed, you
better be somewhere between 8 and 10
(on a 1-10 scale) on every one of these
characteristics.
With that in mind, here’s a list of 12.5
individual characteristics that would make
any person a “hire-able” and “succeed-able”
salesperson (you included).
1. Smart. Salespeople have to be smart
enough to think on the spot and deal
with every kind of situation as it happens.
CAUTION: Very experienced salespeople,
who think they know everything, are most
vulnerable to be beaten by a smart person
with hustle.
2. Self-starting. Great salespeople don’t
need “motivation.” They have a built-in
fire that’s somewhere between a double
espresso and a Red Bull. Nobody has to tell

them what to do. They know what to do.
And they do it. They make the first call of
the day and the last call of the day.
3. Great Attitude. Great salespeople
believe they will make every sale. Great
salespeople take “no” as “not yet.” Great
salespeople accept every lemon thrown
at them by management, customers, and
accounting-and they use those lemons
to open up a lemonade stand. A great
salesperson is able to take everybody else’s
dung and somehow turn it into money.
4. Excellent Communication Skills.
Great salespeople are not “good” communi-
cators. They’re great communicators. Their
message is both compelling and transfer-
able. Their passion and their belief system
are as contagious as their enthusiasm. And
they’re able to articulate in a way that gets
customers to buy more often than not.
5. Physically and Mentally Fit. The state-
ment speaks for itself and implies that you
work out on a regular basis by working
your mind and your body. You exercise your
mind and body before you get to work
(push-ups and brain-ups) so you feel good-
and that good feeling is projected every
time you interact with a customer.
6. Computer Literate. There’s no excuse
for a lack of computer literacy other than
stubbornness and laziness. The Internet
will rule the economic world in less than
a decade. And those who ignore this fact
will find themselves completely unem-
ployable after they get fired from their
present job.
7. Focused and Goal Driven. Having
a goal is a basic fundamental element.
Having a plan is a basic fundamental
element. Keeping your eye on the prize,
and steadily working toward it, is what
separates those who do and those who
don’t. “Goals without focus,” is like an au-
tomobile without gasoline. It looks pretty,
but it can’t get you anywhere. Focus is the
fuel that will take you from where you are
to your goal: your destination to where
you want to be.
8. Dedicated to Succeeding. With great
salespeople, it’s not just a matter of goals-
it’s a matter of achievement. Multiple
achievements lead to success and a self-
confidence that keeps the momentum
going from sale to sale.
9. Past History of Success. Every time
a great salesperson makes a sale, it
remains in their self-confidence memory
bank and can be called upon for positive
energy in any situation. The more you
succeed, the more your success is likely to
continue.
10. Looking For a Career, Not a Job.
If a salesperson has a base salary and
a commission, the person with a “job”
wants a raise in base pay. The person with
a “career” wants a raise in commission.
11. More interested in personal
success and personal development,
than money. Salespeople who work for
money rarely achieve it. Great salespeople
work to be their best and dedicate them-
selves to that process every day. And as a

result, they earn tons.
12. A Constant Student: Willing to
Learn and Adapt. Great salespeople
know there is always more to learn. They
dedicate themselves to being better,
being best. Great salespeople know that
learning from their past allows them to
adapt and be ready for new encounters
and new challenges. It’s the difference
between “already knowing everything”
and “lifelong learner.”
12.5 Taking Joy in Serving Others.
This is the “master” quality. One of the
best salespeople I’ve ever known is Mark
McDonald. He signs his letters, “I love to
serve.” And he does.
Notice one characteristic missing? Sales
skills. I’d rather have attitude and brains
than selling skills any day. I can teach
someone to sell. I can’t teach them to be
smart or happy.
Easier answer. Compare these qualifica-
tions to the best salesperson you ever
knew. Compare them to the best sales-
person you ever had. Compare them to
yourself. Ouch.

some work to do.
