The necessity of travelling abroad to learn about other cultures: a debated topic

Because of the availability of televisions and internet, it is more and more often argued that people can learn something
new about a different country also by staying at home. For this reason, in this essay I will discuss about whether it is
possible to enlarge our knowledge about a different country from home, and whether it is necessary to travel physically.

It is widely believed that people are in the condition to learn something new about a foreign country only in case they find
themselves in it. This belief is due to the fact that travelling allows to enter in contact with the life habits of local people,
with their gastronomy and their religious beliefs, in addition to the opportunity of personally talking with people.

On the other hand, it is possible to discover new aspects about a foreign country also through the consultation of books and
documentaries, whose professionals can provide the readers with the opportunity to enhance their knowledge about a
certain subject. Furthermore, other means that must be taken into account are forums and blogs, thanks to which people
are allowed to consult the opinions and experiences of a huge number of different people.

In sum, in this assay it has been possible to compare the main aspects that must be considered to better learn about
different cultures, analysing the advantages of travelling both physically and virtually. Even though an important factor to
take into account is the disposable income that varies from person to person, I am of the opinion that travelling is the best
way to learn something new, as it makes the comparison with other cultures possible to everybody.
