Is learning foreign languages still important?

Nowadays, we live in a globalized advanced era in which it is important to know how to

communicate with each other and learning a new language must become one of the great concerns
of every person.I strongly believe that mastering different languages is currently more important
than in the past.
Firstly, people are keen to learn a foreign language in order to work or study in a foreign country. In
the last few years, globalization left a huge impact on the economy of all nations and promoted the
growth of multinational companies. Therefore, the rise in the number of people working overseas
resulted in an increase in the demand for learning a foreign language. Also, people need a foreign
language for their studies. Many academic programs make learning a foreign language compulsory.
Secondly, people need to learn foreign languages if they want to travel to overseas countries. Over
the past few years, people have begun to travel to places they would only dreamt of visiting, thanks
to the possibilities offered by modern means of transport. For this reason, if people want to visit a
foreign country, they have to learn basic conversations in the local language to communicate with
native speakers in daily life. Similarly ,while moving around a country, people can learn about local
culture and geography rather than relying on books or other media as sources of information.
Having first hand knowledge of a country may prove invaluable. People can understand the culture
and traditions more and can make decisions for themselves rather than have them made by other
people.
Another important point to take in consideration is that knowing foreign languages helps people to
make new friends and meet some interesting people. The Internet connects the remotest parts of the
world, transforming the worlds into one big ‘family’and facilitating connections among people from
every part of the globe. Everybody can chat online with friends thousands of miles away.
Moreover, learning a new language improves our cognitive skills. Studies have shown that bilingual
people are smarter than people who speak only one language. Multilingual people are even smarter.
Learning a foreign language helps our brain in many ways. It allows us to make connections faster
and remember things better. It is not surprising that bilingual people earn higher salaries and make
better relationships.
All things considered, I believe that learning an international language is becoming more and more
useful for teenagers and people who are interested in meeting other cultures and keeping up with the
times. It is clear that an inability to speak a foreign language is a disability in this modern world.
