ABSTRACT
The aim of the experiment is to demonstrate Bernoulli’s theorem by using a Venturi
meter to measure fluid flow rates. This was done by passing the water from the hydraulic
bench, passing through the Venturi meter, then through an orifice meter and rotameter and
finally returning to the weigh tank of the hydraulic bench all of which were arranged in
series. The rotameter readings (mm) and manometric levels (mmH2O) were collected and
tabulated. Subsequently the time taken to fill up 1 litre of the apparatus three consecutive
times is recorded. The mass flow rate, Q, was determined using the equation,

Q= ρAV ---------- (1)

The experiment was repeated with rotameter readings of 20mm, 30mm, 40mm and 50mm.
The experiment proved the Bernoulli’s theorem which states that an increase in velocity of
the fluid would result in a decrease in pressure.
