TASK OF WEEK 8: POPULATION AND SAMPLE

CHAPTER 3

3.3 Population and Sample

3.3.1 Research Population

In this section, this study is focus on the group which is students in upper secondary school from
form four and form five students and seat for science stream classes only. The population consist
of female and male students. Location of the population around secondary school in Selangor
areas. This population is chosen because of to identify the relation between teacher’s personality
and student’s performance, since there is many teachers that will conduct each classes with
different approaches.

3.3.2 Research Sample

Based on research design for this study, quantitative will be used for this sample. According to the
table of Random Sample Size (Krejcie & Morgan, 1970), the sample size that been collected is 52
sample with total 60 of population. Quantitative method can be used to make inference for large
groups by using small groups and it is prohibitively expensive to the study (Holton & Burnett,
1997, p. 71).
3.3.3 Sampling Technique

This study is used random sampling technique where each population are chosen to be sample.
Random sampling technique is suitable because it does not affect the result as there is free from
bias. It is also accessible for targeted population, the population known as sampling frame. Then
from that it can be randomly picked sample by using lottery method or computer generated random
list (P Sampling, P Guidelines, MS Choices, T Oaks, 2012). This sampling method which is
random sampling will be collect from the selected population which is secondary school in
Selangor areas. Population that comes from form 4 and form 5 students in science stream classes
only, it will be randomly selected and distribute the questionaire. The respondent that are selected
will give their feedback from questionaire given.
