I am a senior in Eastern Washington University (EWU). I am majoring on Technical

Communication (TCOM) and double minoring on Visual Communication Design (VCD)
and Communication (COMM). I am thrilled to share my writing experience with the world.

In all these years, I have observed to find out that there is something that connects my
personality to graphic designs. It’s a skill, an invisible rope that ties us back into our circle.
Communication is what brings us together and knowing the right way of writing a specific
element may help to decrease misunderstanding situations.

I had the opportunity to experience communication with an international student who
didn’t know English. I would translate for him, from Russian to English, and back. My
influence in teaching key words and concept sentences helped this student communicate
with teachers and classmates, as well as it increased his English vocabulary, decreasing
language barrier. From the experience I had, I can conclude that it was informative and
provided feedback on diversity population.

I volunteered for Southside more than a year, in fact I am still volunteering. We are a non
profit organization that provide food and other health services for those who are in need.
My part in this is that I greet our clients and help with filling out paperwork when
necessary. Also, I have skills of Russian language. Since the community we are in, has many
Russian speaking clients, I communicate with international people translating from English
to Russian, and back. I believe that service learning is a way to lead to professional and I
am very grateful that I had the opportunity to serve back to my community.

I started from being the secretary of EWU Jewish Club and I reached to become the
president of this club. Our mission is to provide students on the EWU campus with an
opportunity to freely practice heritage tradition as well inform others of both religious and
non-religious sides of being Jewish. My part in the club is contacting with guest speakers,
getting in collaboration with other clubs and organizations, and arranging entertainment
events for our members and the EWU community.

This is a student only-hold newspaper. No staff other than students work on this project.
My part is researching newsworthy story ideas that would be later published in the
magazine. This gives me an opportunity to enlarge my horizons of knowledge and learn
how other similar reporters do their job.

This program is designed for international students to help them with learning English. My
responsibility is to help students with English pronunciation and fluency. For me this was a
cultural diversity experience that I believe worked for me well.

I attend an internship opportunity completely for my knowledge and experience. I started
working with the Social Media Team. We worked on the website, monthly newsletters, and
several design and writing projects. After observing its website, I was granted the chance
to improve a few pages, constantly verifying with my team mates. For the monthly
newsletter, my responsibility was to collect information on images and text, further aligned
into creating the first draft layout. We then worked as a team to bring changes to the
newsletter, and we were able to complete the final draft in advance to our given deadline. I
arranged other projects, not related to my job description. I created design works ranging
from letterheads to post cards. From the writing part, I created PR Plans and Press
Releases, from start to end. Bio Summaries for staff members and articles are a few top
items in my future to-do list. My work was approved by my supervisor, and then given to
Family Promise for its needs.

I developed a video with animated font and rhyming background. This was an individual
project and I used Adobe programs to complete the project. The material was originally
taken from a video footage and and placed into Adobe Premier. I was inspired by modern
designers and my goal was to reach the texture effect to reflect the music.

This was a group project. We researched common troubleshooting of broken devices and
wrote instructions on how to fix or replace broken items. My part of this project consists of
writing identification for devices and checking final instructions for grammatical errors.
This project helped me learn the visual and physical concept of the importance of
providing correct source of information and using to describe it grammatically correct.

IPA refers to International Phonetic Alphabet, used in about every country of the world.
This was an individual project, I researched and analyzed the logos of companies, then I
compared them to IPA. The usage of IPA in real-life world, differs then what is described in
the textbooks. My outcome from this research is that the company should realize the way
foreign language words intertwine into company names. I can strongly conclude that some
were poorly named within other language definitions. This experience helped me see how
pronouncing words can be easily understood with knowledge of IPA.

I learned how to write about a different cultures. I learned how to recognize the differences
and the importance of connecting one culture to another. This is an individual research
project that helps me organize my thoughts out on paper. My challenge in this project, is
laying out all of the details in order and not saying the same idea in different words. The
difficult part was to find sources and match them to my writing, so it would be looking
cluttered but also would refer to the concept. I consider this to be an interactive kind of
writing where my ultimate goal was to provide both scholar and non-scholar sources.

This project was designed to bring back a piece land back to its natural state. EWU
promoted this land with the help from Geology Department, by pairing seed and soil
elements. My group was focused on the writing part. My responsibility is to spread the
message of reports both for the EWU community and the internal sources. This was mostly
a individual project, in which I researched, interviewed sources, and created 1 full website
page. As a group, we are working to combining our topics into one research report.
