Their birthday meal is our gift, along with the cup-
cakes. We do not substitute for some other dessert if
they do not care for cake. The cupcakes are a deal from one of our ven-
dors.
Please remember to keep the cupcakes in with the “colds” until deliv-
ery. That icing gets very icky and messy if allowed to get warm. Please
feel free to celebrate with the birthday boy or girl!
The February birthday people are: Ken Risch, LP1, Michael Miller, Corporate Platinum Sponsors
Rt. 3, Mary Wetzel, Rt. 2, Phillip Fredenburg, Rt. 2, Betty Gillett, Rt. 6,
Ruth Bawel, Rt. 5, and Betty Abrams, Rt. 3. The oldest is 94, the
youngest is 80. Average age is 87.
We give out lap robes while supplies last. Some are homemade by
Kathy Acker and Judy Legel, others are from a group from Sun ’n
Lakes. When that supply exhausts, we will give out the felt throws.
We looking forward to celebrating several 100-year old birthdays this Kim Reed, Realtor Helen Ferry, Realtor

REMINDERS
BEFORE you leave the alley take the time to check your notebooks for statement envelopes, welcome letter s, and new in-
formation that might not have made the newsletter! If not paid in advance, some new clients get a “Start-up Fee” invoice. Some-
times we ask that you wait for the startup payment. The client knows you are expecting it. We send out a Welcome Letter usually
with their first meal. It explains to the client what to do if away, ice packs and ice coolers, emergency information, particularly for
the summer storms and storm shelters. It also has a magnet with our information. Each notebook should contain some business
cards and maybe one or two brochures. Feel free to pass these out to others. Let the office know if the supply gets low.
THE KITCHEN: If you are missing a meal item or needing a correction, let Dave, or Mary Margaret know, as we are the only
non-employee authorized to go to the kitchen entrance and we will try to handle the issues. It is perfectly fine for you to be in the
hallway in the Palms, or visit their facilities. Please don’t interrupt the staff. Thank you for understanding!
DO NOT return any food you are unable to deliver to the Palms. They will simply throw it away. Find somebody to feed! If
they are not on our list, give them a business card or brochure. Don’t just leave it somewhere. Hand it to a person!
CLIENT COOLERS: must have ice or a freezer pack in that cooler. The Health Regulations require that ice or a freezer
pack be in the coolers if we leave food for the clients. No Cooler or No Ice in Cooler—DO NOT leave the food. If they have a
‘freezer bag’ with ice, use it. Never just leave food on a table, bench, or hanging in a grocery bag from the door knob.
LEAVING FOOD WITHOUT A COOLER OUTSIDE is strictly against provisions in the Florida Statutes regarding food han-
dling! We try to be in compliance in every area! NEVER leave the food on a table outside or worse, on the ground by the door.
(Dirt, chemicals, and bugs) The client may be running late and will be home in a few minutes. If you have other deliveries and can
return, that is the safest solution. If you carry one of our freezer bags with you, and special instructions have been given by the Di-
rector, you could leave the food hanging in that freezer bag on the door knob. (We will get that bag back!)
NEVER leave the food in a car outside the home for so many r easons, but pr imar ily it is danger ous to do so in the Flor ida
sun. Never let the sun fool you, it will take the interior of an automobile from outside temperature to scorching oven-like tempera-
ture in just a few hours. That food would be ruined!
DO NOT LIFT a client who has fallen. Call Positive Medical at 655-0030 or 9-1-1. It is called “lift-assist”. There is no fee un-
less they need a transport. CALL for help!
NOTIFY THE OFFICE if a client is ill, or their overall condition has become worse or noticeably different since your last visit.
Contact the Sebring Meals On Wheels office on any issues you may encounter at a client’s home. 402-1818. This is a vital part of
our mission. We are sometimes the only people to look in on these people each day.
PAYMENTS: If you do not return to the Palms after delivering meals and you accept payment envelopes that same day, be sure
to tell the client that the payment will not be turned in for a full week. This allows the client the option to pay the next driver in-
stead, if this is a problem for the client.
PRIVACY ACT forbids us telling the health information on our clients. Please don’t ask what is wrong with somebody, or why
they are on hold.
USE A HAND SANITIZER between visits if you are concerned about germs until you can properly scrub your hands.
TIPS: We do not accept monetary tips. If they offer, tell them we accept donations, which can be sent in with their payments.
During the holidays some clients will have a gift for you. Please accept them graciously. We never want to hurt our clients’ feel-
ings.
DO NOT ADMINISTER ANY MEDICATION to clients, not even an aspirin. This includes handing them the pill container. It
may have been placed out of reach for a reason!
MESSY COOLERS: There is a garden hose just at the doorway to the kitchen. Please take a second to hose the mess. Just pull
the trigger. The kitchen does not have a set routine to clean these coolers and we don’t want scummy, moldy, yucky coolers. We
all need to be diligent about keeping things clean.
YOUR COOLERS: If you transfer food to your own cooler for distribution and convenience, please bring your own frozen
packs to keep cold things cold and a method to keep foods HOT.
CLIENT RESPONSIBILITY: They should contact the office with any changes to their meal plan or delivery schedule. You
may take the message and relay it on to the office, but ask the client to call and verify we received their directions.
ASSISTING CLIENTS: Please avoid touching their food. Do not cut up their foods. If the food needs to be sliced, cut up, or
chopped, let the office know so that we can let the kitchen become aware. The kitchen will do this task for us. It is a hygiene issue.
You may open their milk or factory sealed containers.
TEXTING: Please avoid texting the office phone. It does not have fancy pr ogr ams. If you want to
send an email, that is OK. Info@sebringmealsonwheels.com, but it is only seen during regular office
hours. If you want to message through Facebook’s messenger, we only monitor Facebook in the evenings.
Therefore a phone call is still the better choice. If you must leave a message, we try to respond quickly.
