What is μmol m-2s-1

1 Photon Then imagine that in 1 second, all photons cross through of that area

BEFORE AFTER 1 second
1 µMol of Photons …
(6.02214129 x 1017 Photons)

1m 2

That means having 1 [µMol/(m2s1)] of photon flux density.

What is W/m2

Photons have differents colours, for example:

1 Blue Photon 1 red Photon

1 µMol of Blue Photons 1 µMol of red Photons

… …
Then the energy that can cross though of that area
 0.265 J  0.17 J
in 1 second (power density), depends of the
of energy of energy
… … photon’s color quantities.

1 m2
Example
They have differents irradiance values, only for composition of light
Convert photon flux density to power flux

Known SPD (spectral power distribution), we calculate a FACTOR that we can use for read W/m2 using PAR sensor

𝐴
Example: If the target is solar light, we can read μmol m-2s-1 and calculate value in W/m2, using = 𝐶 formula
𝐵
A

B This factor only depends of the SPD

Considerations

- This method works as long as we consider that SPD not change too much (<10% var.) between measure points.
- We could to use one of our new developments submarine-rov spectroradiometer, where you get the data without that error.
