FITTING AND WIRING

IMPORTANT NOTES:

- The MUDATA scanning system functioning is guaranteed up to 45°C. If the temperature is over 45°C, the fitter
must fit a natural or a controlled ventilation in the cabinet where is installed the calculator (for instance: a fan).
Warning, in this case, the cabinet's watertightness will be not guaranteed anymore.

- The cabinet of the calculator has to be fitted in place which is always under the sunshine.

- Do not fit the calculator's cabinet where there is any risk of shock.

- Never pull or plug a wire or a connector when the calculator is power supplied.

- Connecting wires arrive on the calculator's housing located inside the cabinet.
So as to have an easy access to the connectors, the front face of the cabinet is removable.

- Connections are made onto removable screw connectors.

- All connecting wires must be shielded.

- The metallic braided wires have not to be connected to the corresponding connectors onto the screw
connectors.

- The fitter must check that the full installation is well grounded.

- The fitter must check that no power contacts (relays...) disturbs the well functioning of the scanning system,
otherwise fit interference filters.

- The metallic braid of electrical wires has to be grounded only to one end (screw connector of the scanning
system).

- As safety measures, disconnect the plug of the encoder and the scanning system's ones when a welding
system is used on the installation.
M UDAT A C-2

THE GANTRY

The gantry steps over longitudinal conveyor on which logs are scanned.

It must be installed so that the full log lays down the conveyor while scanning (if the conveyor is stopped, data
about the diameter are not taken into account for the volume).

The gantry must be inflexible and must be protected against vibrations.

Calculation of the gantry's dimensions

Determine the maximum diameter of logs which are able to pass under the gantry (MAX D).

- Width of the gantry = MAX D +1000 mm

- Height of the gantry = MAX D + 500 mm

The gantry must be centered regarding the bottom of the conveyor so that the cell n°1 is opposite to this point.

Cells n°2 and n°3 are fitted at the same height on the gantry's vertical beams.

PHOTOELECTRIC CELLS
The cell of logs entrance (supplied)
This cell must be fitted on the side of the gantry where logs arrive. This cell must be fitted at a height so as all
logs cut the beam. The standard height is 50 mm, but it can be adapted in accordance with logs.

The reflector is stickled in front of the photoelectric cell onto a plate welded to the gantry (after adjustment of the
beam on the reflector). The reflector must be always clean.

The cell of synchronization (optional)

A second photoelectric cell can be fitted so as to synchronize the logs before their ejection. This cell is useful
when the conveyor is very long with risks of slipping or when ejections are worked out on a second conveyor.

The synchronization is worked out according to the end of the log (opening of a switch)

NOTE :
The synchronization is limited to an error inferior to the length of the log to synchronize.

ADJUSTMENT OF THE PHOTOELECTRIC CELLS: .

- The cell must be power supplied (230V) and the led must be lighted on (green, orange or red).
- The cell's beam must not be interrupted.
- Stick a piece of adhesive paper on the side of the cell's window so as to reduce the width of the beam.
- Adjust the reflector so that the light on the cell is green.
- Like this, he cell will be adjusted at full power.
- Then, pull the adhesive paper away.
- Check that the light changes from green to red when the beam is interrupted. (orange led = misalignment of
the reflector)

(Refer to technical specifications in appendix)

Determination of the D value : distance between the axis of the photocell and the axis of the gantry.
- D must be always superior to the dimension of the correction in the begining and the end of the log (parameter
P04 of volume correction) + 100 mm.
- The distance between two logs must be always superior to 2 x D.
- The minimum length of logs is equal to 2 x D.

Commissioning of the scanning system :

- Enter the D's value in mm in the parameter P 24 of the scanning system.

P 24 = "Distance photoelectric cell axis/ultrasonic cells axis".
M UDAT A C - 12

THE CONVEYOR
with encoder
The installation of an encoder is necessary if the conveyors has got a rear motion or if its speed is not
regular.

The encoder indicates the direction and the distance of travel of the conveyor.
The log's length is calculated from the number of encoder pulses counted between the closure and the opening of
the photocell.
Wiring the input On/Off is not necessary.
(If the encoder is not fitted, the distance of travel of the chain is withdrawn from the time of its travel).

References of the encoder

HOHNER - IDEACOD Type IN90 MUD02 (500 pulses with TOP marker)

Encoder fitting
The axis of the encoder is drived by a coupling system which changes the linear travel of the chain into angular
travel according to the following formula:
1 m travel of the chain = 1 rotation of the encoder's shaft (± 30 %)

Accuracy of the coupling system

The installation requires a mechanical coupling system which must guarantee an accuracy of 1 mm.

The differences caused by mechanical backlashes and variations of initial driving ratio (wears) can be
compensated by modifying the value of the 'ENCODER'S PULSE SCALE FACTOR' parameter (See chapter
"MACHINE'S PARAMETER").

THE TWO EJECTORS

(CUB800, CUB801, CUB890)

The log scanning system features as standard two outputs which control two ejections according to criterions
previously selected in parameters, in this case the sorting is automatic.

If the conveyor is stopped before the ejection, the output "Conveyor Stoppage" must be wired, please refer to the
machine's parameters so as to select a sequence.

At ejection, logs can be centered or aligned (see parameters).

The automatic sorting can be made according to two criterions : diameter and length (see machine's parameters).

Modification of the destination of logs after its passage under the gantry:
The taking into account of the forced sorting can also take place after the passage of the log under the gantry, in
this case, to parameterize the parameters P58 and P59.
In the passing of the end (back part) of the log under the gantry, the calculator calculates dimensions of the log
and affects the destination of the automatic sorting or the destination by default.
In the passing of the end (back part) of the log in front of the “position limite", the calculator modifies its
destination according to the last activated "forced sorting enter" and memorizes this new data for the sorting and
the statistics.

EJECTORS OF THE SORTING SYSTEM

(CUB803 and CUB893)

The ejectors of the sorting system are controled by the relays of 1 to 3 "sorting" interface card(s) (supplied). Each
card controls 8 ejectors.

The ejectors can be connected to the outputs normally opened (even outputs) or to the outputs normally closed
(odd outputs).

For bins in line, use one output per bin.

For bins face-to-face, enter +1 in the "SORTING & QUALITY" parameter and use two outputs:
. 1st output for the ejector (example : connector 4)
. 2nd output for left/right (example : connector 6)

On the last sorting card, link together connectors 11 and 13 and connectors 12 and 14.

If the conveyor has to be stopped before ejection, wire the "conveying stop" output and refer to the parameters so
as to determine the sequence.

At ejection, logs can be centered or aligned (refer to parameters).

The log scanning system features several safety measures for the operation of ejectors (explained hereafter).

The sorting can be made according to two criterions : diameter and length (see machine's parameters).

Specifications of the relays card for sorting

- The card is supplied in 24 VDC by the calculator
- Each red led shows the commutation of the relay
- Max. commuted voltage of switches:. 250 V-/380 V~
- Max. intensity of power cut: 5A

THE RS485 MUDBUS NETWORK

(CUB890 and CUB893)

This network guarantees the data exchange between the CUB890 and CUB893 log scanning system and the
computer

The network features a shielded cable with a pair of wires.

The network cable must be located far away from power cables.

The connection onto the calculator's cabinet is made by a 15 points male Canon plug.

A resistance of 100 ohms must be wired between D(A) and D(B) at each end of the cable.

On the calculator side: Weld the resistance in the 15 points male Canon plug.

Example : Wiring with an INT 119 interfacing card:

The INT119 interfacing card allows to connect directly the calculator onto the computer's serial port.

COMMISSIONING OF THE LOG SCANNING SYSTEM

The log scanning system features three types of parameters :

- The machine's parameters which are entered at installation and which can be accessed usually by secret code.
- The parameters of corrections which can be easily modified by the operator.
- The parameters determining the criterions of statistics and sorting and which can be easily modified by the
operator.

ejected anyway.

- CORRECTION OF BARK:
The diameter can be corrected to get the volume under bark.
The correction can be constant or proportional (see parameters hereabove).
A switch or the reset to zero of the parameter allows to cancel this correction.

Check the functioning of the cell 1 by distancing and by nearing (at more than 30cm) an item (for instance, a
piece of cardboard) from the cell 1. The displayed value must increase and decrease (the displayed value is not
significant yet).

Check the functioning of the cells 2 and 3 by distancing up to the top of the conveyor and by nearing (at more
than 30 cm) an item from each cell. The displayed value must increase and decrease (the displayed value is not
accurate yet). If the displayed value stops changing before than the item is widely come over the central axis of
the conveyor, that means that there is an obstacle in the cone of the beam. In this case, eliminate this obstacle
or incline the cell very slightly upwards or fit the cell again higher (in this case, modify the parameter : "Height of
the horizontal cells").

Check the reference intake of the log scanning system; when there is no log under the gantry, the value displayed
on the "reference intake" onehas to remain constant at the unit.

NOTE : The cell 2 and the cell 3 have to be always at the same height.
