received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. Shielded cables must be used with
this unit to ensure compliance with the Class A FCC limits.
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A digital device, pursuant
to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful
interference when the equipment is operated in a commercial environment. This equipment generates,

CE statement

The CE conformity declaration for the product is fulfilled when the system is built and cabled in line with
the information given in the manual and the documentation specified within it, such as installation
instructions, cable lists or the like. Where necessary project-specific documentation should be taken into
consideration. Deviations from the specifications or independent modifications to the layout, such as
use of cable types with lower screening values for example, can lead to violation of the CE protection
requirements. In such cases the conformity declaration is invalidated. The responsibility for any prob-
lems which subsequently arise rests with the party responsible for deviating from the installation spec-

1 Preface
This chapter contains an overview, prerequisites and important notices regarding the
commissioning of SURPASS hiT 7080.

1.1 Intended audience


The SURPASS hiT 7080 commissioning documents are intended for field technicians
and operations center staff from Nokia Siemens Networks or third parties, who have to
commission SURPASS hiT 7080.

1.2 Structure of this document


Commissioning SURPASS hiT 7080 is the process of taking an installed SURPASS hiT
7080 and bringing it into an operational state.
The SURPASS hiT 7080 commissioning document contains the following chapters:

1.3.2 Conventions used

Representation Meaning
“Inverted commas” Window or wizard titles are represented in “inverted commas”.
Example: Open the “Help and Support Center” window. The
“New Connection” wizard is displayed.
Bold Any field or text in the GUI is represented in bold type.
Example: Click Shutdown and then click OK to turn off the
computer.
Italic Variables and file extensions are represented in italic.
Example: Enter 192.168.0.1 in the IP address field. Click OK to
produce a .pdf rendition.
Courier Commands, screen output, file names and paths are
represented in courier.
Example: # ping -t 192.168.0.1

1.5.1 Hardware configuration


The minimum Personal Computer (PC) hardware requirements for the Local Craft
Terminal (LCT) are listed in Table 4.

2 Commissioning strategies
The SURPASS hiT 7080 Network Element (NE) commissioning task can be performed
both on site and remotely via LCT.
The SURPASS hiT 7080 system is available in the following delivery formats:
• Rack and shelf pre-configuration
• Shelf pre-configuration
• Bulk
The three delivery formats differ regarding the pre-installed hardware.
For more information regarding the delivery formats, please refer to the SURPASS hiT
7080 Installation and Test Manual (ITMN).
It is possible to add one main shelf to one NE, and the following cards can be added to
the main shelf:
• Controller cards
– System Controller (SC) card
– System Interface with Engineering Order Wire (SI-E) card
• Cross Connection (CC) cards
– High Order Cross Connection (HOCC) card
• Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) cards
– 2 x STM-64
– 8 x STM-16
– 8 x STM-4/1
• Ethernet cards
– 8 x GE/T
– 6 x GE + 4 x FEGE/A
• Amplifier cards
– Pre-Optical Amplifier (POA) (20 dB)

According to the purchased delivery format, execute the corresponding commissioning
strategy.
g In case of the emergency occuring on the NE during the commissioning, please
reboot, or even shut down the NE.
For how to reboot and shut down NE, please refer to the SURPASS hiT 7080 Oper-
ating Manual (OMN).

2.1 Rack and shelf pre-configuration


Prerequisites
In order to start the SURPASS hiT 7080 NE commissioning, the following prerequisites
must be fulfilled:
• The NE is powered on.

In the rack and shelf pre-configuration delivery format, the entire assembly work is
assured by Nokia Siemens Networks in advance. In this case, all cards are plugged in
the shelves according to the customer List Of Material (LOM), and installed in the correct
racks.
To commission the NE, complete the following procedures:

2 Configuring online help system, Chapter 3.2
3 Starting up LCT, Chapter 3.3
4 Configuring NE security, Chapter 3.4
5 Configuring NE properties, Chapter 3.5

2.2 Shelf pre-configuration


Prerequisites
In order to start the SURPASS hiT 7080 NE commissioning, the following prerequisites
must be fulfilled:
• Hardware installation and cabling are completed according to the SURPASS hiT
7080 Installation and Test Manual (ITMN).
• The NE is powered on.

Commissioning strategy
In the shelf pre-configuration delivery format, all shelves are equipped with cards
according to the customer LOM. In this case the shelves have to be installed into the
racks and the essential cables have to be connected first.
To commission the NE, complete the following procedures:

2.3 Bulk
Prerequisites
In order to start the SURPASS hiT 7080 NE commissioning, the following prerequisites

• Hardware installation and cabling are completed according to the SURPASS hiT
7080 Installation and Test Manual (ITMN).
• The NE is powered on.

Commissioning strategy
The bulk delivery format does not support any pre-configured installation and cabling for
the NE.
To commission the NE, complete the following procedures:

3 Commissioning procedures
This chapter contains all the required procedures to complete a SURPASS hiT 7080 NE
commissioning task.

3.1 Initializing system


When SURPASS hiT 7080 is powered on for the first time, the system has to be initial-
ized via the Hyper Terminal through the console interface on the SC card.

3.1.1 Setting Hyper Terminal


To set the Hyper Terminal, complete the following steps:
1 Open the Hyper Terminal
On the Windows taskbar select Start > Programs > Accessories > Communica-
tions > Hyper Terminal menu item.
The “Connection Description” window is opened.
2 Name the connection
Enter a name to the connection, for example SURPASS hiT 7080, and click OK.
3 Select the port
Select the COM port for this connection from the drop-down list Connect using, and
click OK.
4 Set the port
Set the port properties as follows, and click OK.

Bits per second: 9600


Data bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop bits: 1
Flow control: None
The Hyper Terminal is configured.

3.1.2 Configuring system initially


To configure the system for the first time, complete the following steps:
1 Power on
Turn on the power to SURPASS hiT 7080.
The system will start the boot process, which can be monitored from the Hyper Ter-
minal.
2 Enter the initial configuration menu
The root menu will be displayed in the Hyper Terminal window after the system com-
pletes the boot process.
Operate as follows to enter the main menu:

User name: Enter the login name for the Hyper Terminal user account.
The default user name is root.
Password: Enter the password for the Hyper Terminal user account.
The default password is <Enter>.
3 Enter the user setting menu
Press <u> to enter user setting menu.
4 Select the user
Press <g> and enter the selected user name.
Press <Enter>.
The detailed information of the selected user is displayed.
5 Enter the user edit menu
Press <e> to enter user edit menu.
6 Set the user password
Press <1> to set the user password.
g Nokia Siemens Networks recommends that the user password should be set
and remembered.
7 Enter the Internet Protocol (IP) address setting menu
Press <x> return to the main menu.
Press <i> to enter IP address setting menu.
8 Set the IP address
Press <1> to <4> to set the node IP address, the management port IP address, the
management port subnetwork mask and the default gateway for the management
port respectively.
g 1. For every SURPASS hiT 7080 NE, a node IP address must be set. Each
node IP address must be unique within the network. Nokia Siemens
Networks recommends that all nodes within the same ring share the same
subnetwork for administration and further expansion easily.
2. The SURPASS hiT 7080 management port IP address must be unique in the
same subnetwork.
9 Enter the Telnet login setting menu
Press <x> to return to the main menu.
Press <l> to enter Telnet login setting menu.
10 Control the Telnet login
Press <e> to enable or <d> to disable the Telnet login function.
11 Quit the initial configuration menu
Quit the initial configuration menu and disconnect the Hyper Terminal.
The system configuration is initialized.

3.2 Configuring online help system


To verify the user can open the online help system correctly, complete the following
steps:

1 On the Windows taskbar select Start > Settings > Control Panel menu item.
The “Control Panel” window is opened.
2 Double-click Internet Options to open the “Internet Properties” window.
3 Click the tab Advanced and select the check box Allow active content to run in
files on My Computer in the Security area.
4 Click OK.
The online help system is configured.

3.3 Starting up LCT


The LCT has to be connected to the MGT interface on the SI-E card through the
standard Ethernet cable.

3.3.1 Setting route


To set the route, complete the following steps:
1 On the Windows taskbar select Start > Programs > Accessories > Command
Prompt menu item.
The “Command Prompt” window is opened.
2 Use the “route add” command to add the static route information. Enter the following
command:
route add x.x.x.x mask y.y.y.y z.z.z.z -p
x.x.x.x means the destination IP address, the NE’s node IP address. y.y.y.y means
the destination mask. z.z.z.z means the gateway IP address, the NE’s Ethernet IP
address.
The route is configured.

3.3.2 Starting up
To start up the LCT, complete the following steps:
1 On the Windows taskbar select the Start > Programs > TNMS CT menu item to
start the TNMS CT. The LCT is embedded in the TNMS CT.
The main “TNMS CT” window and the “Login” window are opened.
2 Login to TNMS CT and click the DCN Mgm icon on the main tool bar.
The “DCN Management” window is opened.
3 In the list of DCN Objects, right-click on the TNMS CT Server tree and select the
Add menu item.
The “Add DCN Channel” window is opened.
4 Select SNMP from the list and click OK.
The “SNMP - Properties” window is opened.
5 In the General tab, enter an ID Name for a new DCN channel (e.g., SNMP) and click
OK.
The new SNMP icon representing the DCN channel is displayed under the TNMS
CT Server icon.

6 Right-click on the SNMP icon and select Add menu item.


The “Add Network Element” window is opened.
7 Select Universal Snmpv3 NEC from the list and then click OK.
The “Universal Snmpv3 NEC - Properties” window is opened.
8 Click the SNMP tab and enter the following settings:

IP Address: Enter the IP address of the NE.


User Name: Enter a string as the user name of the LCT. The default user
name is Administrator.
Password: Enter the password of the LCT. The default password is
nsiemens.
Telegram Timeout Enter an integer.
[sec]:
Telegram Retries: Enter an integer.
Polling Interval Enter an integer to indicate the polling interval.
[min]:
Click OK to confirm the settings and back to the “DCN Management” window.
9 Select the check boxes for the TNMS CT Server, SNMP channel and Universal
Snmpv3 NEC (all in the same tree).
Right-click on the Universal Snmpv3 NEC list item and select the Activate/Deac-
tivate menu item from the context menu in order to activate the newly added NE.
10 Right-click on the Universal Snmpv3 NEC and select Start Element Manager.
The LCT is opened.
The LCT startup is completed.

3.3.3 Shutting down


To shut down the LCT, complete the following steps:
1 In the LCT Main window menu, select System > Exit menu item to shut down the
LCT program.
2 In the confirmation window, click Yes to finish shutdown.
The LCT shutdown is completed.

3.4 Configuring NE security


It is recommended that the user modifies the NE user account definitions after login or
creates a new NE user account.

3.4.1 Modifying an existing NE user account


To modify the password of an existing NE user account, complete the following steps:
1 From the chassis main menu, select NE Security > Change Password menu item.
The “Change Password” window is opened.
2 Operate as follows and click OK to confirm the settings.

Old Password: Enter the old password for the NE user account. The default
old password is nsiemens.
New Password: Enter the new password for the NE user account.
Confirm Password: Enter the new password again for confirmation.
The password of the existing NE user account is modified.

3.4.2 Creating a new NE user account


To create a new NE user account, complete the following steps:
1 In the chassis main menu, select NE Security > User Administration menu item.
The “User Administration” window is opened.
2 Click Add User to create a new user.
The “Add User” window is opened.
3 Operate as follows:

User Name: Enter the new name for the NE user account.
Password: Enter the new password for the NE user account.
Confirm Password: Enter the new password again for confirmation.
Group: Select the required group, which the account belongs to,
from the drop-down list.
4 Accept the default configuration of the check box, Account is disabled, to enable
the account, or select this check box to disable the account as requirement.
5 Click OK to complete the creation.
A new NE user account is created.

3.5 Configuring NE properties


To configure the NE properties, complete the following steps:
1 In the chassis main menu, select Configuration > NE > NE Properties Configura-
tion menu item.
The “NE Properties Configuration” window is opened.
2 In the NE Properties area, operate as follows:

NE Label: Enter the NE identification.


Location: Enter the NE location.
Description: Enter the NE description.
Contact: Enter the NE administrator.
3 Click OK to confirm the NE property configuration.
The NE properties are configured.

3.6 Configuring Data Communication Network


This sub-chapter describes the configuration for the connection from the NE to the Tele-
communication Management Network (TMN).
To configure the DCN, complete the following steps:
1 In the chassis main menu, select DCN > IP Route Configuration > IP Static Route
menu item.
The “IP Static Route” window is opened.
2 Click Add to add the IP static route.
The “IP Static Route Addition” window is opened.
3 Operate as follows and click OK to add the IP static route and close the window.

Destination: Enter the IP address of the TNMS connected with the NE.
Mask: Enter the subnetwork mask of TNMS connected with the
NE.
Interface Index: Enter the unique number that identifies the interface
connected to TNMS.
Next Hop: Enter the gateway IP address of TMN.
4 Click OK to confirm the configuration.
The DCN is configured.

3.7 Configuring time


Users can set the NE time as required for the two following situations:
• Set time according to the Network Time Protocol (NTP) server
• Set time according to the NE clock

3.7.1 Setting time according to the NTP server


An NE sets an NTP server in the DCN via Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP),
and uses it as an external time-reference-source to derive its internal clock. The refer-
ence clock is used for time stamping log entries, issuing events and more.
To set time according to the NTP server, complete the following steps:
1 In the chassis main menu, select Configuration > NE Time Setting menu item.
The “NE Time Setting” window is opened.
2 In the Network Time Protocol area, operate as follows and click OK to set the NTP
server.

Network Time Select Enabled from the drop-down list.


Protocol:
NTP Time Server IP: Enter the NTP server IP address.
3 Click OK to confirm the setting.
The NTP server is configured as the time source.

3.7.2 Setting time according to the NE clock


To set time according to the NE clock, complete the following steps:
1 In the chassis main menu, select Configuration > NE Time Setting menu item.
The “NE Time Setting” window is opened.
2 Select Disabled from the drop-down list Network Time Protocol to disable the NTP
server setting and enable the time according to the NE clock setting.
3 Select the required time from the drop-down list Network Element Time.
The NE is configured to use the time according to the NE’s internal clock.

3.8 Configuring card


There are six different types of cards that can be equipped in an NE (see Chapter 2).
For the information about the slot arrangement, please refer to the SURPASS hiT 7080
Technical Description (TED).

3.8.1 Adding cards


To add cards, complete the following steps:
1 Insert the card into the corresponding slot in the shelf.
The LCT automatically recognizes the card and refreshes the chassis view.
2 In the chassis view window, right-click the newly added card and select the Syn-
chronize Card menu item from the context menu.
3 In the confirmation window, click Yes to synchronize the card.
4 Click OK to confirm the addition.
The card is added.

3.8.2 Deleting cards


When the card is absent or mismatched, the system will automatically recognize the sit-
uation. In the chassis view window, “Absent” will be displayed on the absent card, and
“Mismatch” will be displayed on the mismatched card. In both cases, users should delete
the card manually.
To delete cards, complete the following steps:
1 In the chassis view window, right-click the card to be deleted and select the Delete
Card menu item from the context menu.
2 In the confirmation window, click Yes to delete the card.
3 Click OK to confirm the deletion.
The card is deleted.

3.8.3 Rebooting cards


SURPASS hiT 7080 supports two kinds of card reboot:
• Warm reboot: the software reboots and the traffic running in the card remains
normal.
• Cold reboot: the hardware reboots and the traffic running in the card is lost.

Warm reboot
To warm reboot cards, complete the following steps:
1 In the chassis view window, right-click the card to be rebooted and select the Warm
Reboot Card menu item from the context menu.
2 In the confirmation window, click Yes to reboot the card.
3 Click OK to confirm the reboot.
The card warm reboots.

Cold reboot
To cold reboot cards, complete the following steps:
1 In the chassis view window, right-click the card to be rebooted and select the Cold
Reboot Card menu item from the context menu.
2 In the confirmation window, click Yes to reboot the card.
3 Click OK to confirm the reboot.
The card cold reboots.

3.9 Configuring alarm


Users can configure three different aspects of the alarm:
• Audio alarm configuration
• Alarm output configuration
• Alarm inhibition configuration

3.9.1 Audio alarm


To configure the audio of the alarm, complete the following steps:
1 In the LCT Main window menu, select System > Audio Alarm Config menu item.
The “Audio Alarm Configuration” window is opened.
2 In the Audio Alarm Enabled/Disabled area, accept the default radio button Audio
Alarm Disabled option, or click the redio button Audio Alarm Enabled to enable
the audio alarm.
3 If the audio alarm is enabled, in the Alarm Audio File Config area, select the
specific audio files as required from the drop-down list.
4 If the audio alarm is enabled, select the desired audio play times from the drop-down
list Alarm Audio Play Times.
5 Click OK to set the audio alarm configuration.
6 In the confirmation window, click OK to confirm the settings.
The audio alarm is configured.

3.9.2 Alarm output


To configure the alarm output, complete the following steps:

1 In the chassis main menu, select Configuration > Alarm Out Configuration menu
item.
The “Alarm Out Configuration” window is opened.
2 Select the following four options as required.
• Alarm Out Suppress only temporarily suppress the alarm output once
• Alarm Out Cutoff permanently cut off the alarm output
• Enable CR/MJ Alarm out enable the critical and major alarm to be displayed
• Enable Minor Alarm out enable the minor alarm to be displayed
3 Click OK to set the alarm output configuration.
4 In the confirmation window, click OK to confirm the settings.
The alarm output is configured.

3.9.3 Alarm inhibition


To configure the alarm inhibition, complete the following steps:
1 In the chassis main menu, select Fault > Alarm Inhibit Configuration menu item.
The “Alarm Inhibition Configuration” window is opened.
2 Select the check box of the specific card or port to be inhibitted as required.
3 Click OK to set the alarm inhibition.
4 In the confirmation window, click OK to confirm the settings.
The alarm inhibition is configured.
