Background of SAC

o SAC was established through a MOU with


MTI and SCI in September 1996

o SAC to develop and operate an accreditation


system for conformity assessment practices
in Singapore

o SPRING Singapore (formerly known as


PSB) administers SAC from April 2002

v Launched in 2001 in the area of Pressure


Vessels & Lifting Equipment inspection
v 3 inspection bodies have been accredited
v Expansion of inspection scheme for motor
vehicle inspection which was launched in Jan
05
v Subsequently, the inspection scheme was
extended for structural steelwork inspection
which was launched on 8 March 2005
