Entuity® 15.5
Entuity Integration Foundation
Module for NetView

Entuity's network degradation information, coupled with NetView's realtime fault

capability, helps operators isolate and resolve problems before network-based
services are adversely impacted. Network operators can link to Entuity and drill
down to event details in greater depth, and analyze historical performance to the
port level to isolate degradation problems.

1 Entuity NetView Foundation Integration

Integrating Tivoli NetView and Entuity provides a cost-effective, powerful network monitoring
and management solution. The Entuity - NetView Integration extends the management scope
of the existing solution by delivering an interface between Entuity and the NetView console.
Entuity's network degradation information, coupled with NetView's realtime fault capability,
helps operators isolate and resolve problems before network-based services are adversely
impacted. Network operators can link to Entuity and drill down to event details in greater
depth, and analyze historical performance to the port level to isolate degradation problems.
Entuity can be integrated with NetView in two ways. This guide details launching Entuity from
NetView and then accessing the Component Viewer, Event Viewer and Find tools. Entuity
can also be integrated with NetView by configuring it to forward SNMP traps to NetView. (See
Entuity User and System Administrator Guide).

About Entuity
Entuity is an out-of-the-box software solution that provides leading indicators enabling
enterprises and service providers to identify critical network performance problems before
they result in unsatisfactory service. Requiring minimal training, the solution offers an
abundant knowledge base to assist with prioritizing network faults in real-time to head off
problems before the business is adversely impacted. Entuity's assessment of network
inventory and utilization patterns also allows organizations to maximize current investments
and plan for future expansion.

Installing the Entuity NetView Integrated Solution

Before installing the Entuity NetView Integration you need:
 Entuity Server installed and running (this can be on a separate machine to NetView).
 NetView installed.

From the NetView server machine:

1) Login to Entuity and click Tools > Component Viewer. Entuity uses Java Web Start to
install the Entuity Client. During installation Entuity checks for NetView, in:
 Windows, by checking for the NetView directory, \usr\OV and the NetView
installation drive system variable, %NV_DRIVE%.
 unix, by checking for the NetView directory, /usr/OV. This must be installed to the root.

2) From Component Viewer click File > NetView Integrate. Entuity installs:
 Entuity.reg to /usr/ov/registration/c/registration/
 EOSClient.jnlp and EOSNetView.jar to /usr/ov/tools/entuity.

3) Once the installation is complete restart NetView. As Entuity is installed under the
NetView Tools folder and registered as a tool, it can now be launched from NetView.

Launching Entuity from NetView

The Entuity - NetView integration allows you to launch the Entuity from NetView. You can
directly access Component Viewer, Event Viewer or search the Entuity management
database using its Find tool.

Opening Component Viewer

h

A deprecated abbreviation for Entuity was EotS.

1) From the NetView Tools menu click EotS > EotS Component Viewer.

2) When you are not currently logged on to Entuity, Entuity displays its standard logon
dialog. Enter the Entuity server’s host name and your user name and password. Entuity
then displays Component Viewer.

Searching the Entuity Management Database

By highlighting an object in NetView you can search for information on that object in the
Entuity database. You can also adjust the initial search criteria or enter new find queries.

Entuity Uninstalling the Entuity Client

Uninstalling the Entuity Client

To uninstall the Entuity client you can either completely remove the installation from your
machine or just remove the client’s integration with NetView:
1) To remove:
 Only the Entuity - NetView integration delete the Entuity folder from /usr/OV/
Tools/ and the Entuity registration file, Entuity.reg, from /usr/OV/
registration/C.
 The Entuity client from both NetView and your machine. Run the Java Web Start
application manager and uninstall Entuity EWC.
