Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you

agree or disagree with the recommendation and explain your
reasoning for the position you take. In developing and
supporting your position, describe specific circumstances in
which adopting the recommendation would or would not be
advantageous and explain how these examples shape your
position
Highlights
● Agree or Disagree with the recommendation.
● Give logic and examples to substantiate your views.
● State whether it would be advantageous or not.
● Describe specific circumstances where adopting the
recommendation would or would not be
advantageous.
RECOMMENDATION??
● Recommendation means an official suggestion
about the best thing to do.
● It also means the act of telling somebody that
something is good or useful or that somebody would
be suitable for a particular job, etc.
● For eg:Governments should focus on solving the
immediate problems of today rather than on trying to solve
the anticipated problems of the future.
What should you do??
● You can: a)Completely Agree
b)Completely Disagree.
c)Partially Agree or Disagree.
● State if taking the recommendation would be advantageous
or not.
● Describe with specific circumstances to substantiate your
logic.
● Conclude.
Recommendation

Young people should be encouraged to pursue long-

term, realistic goals rather than seek immediate fame
and recognition
A brief of it
● I agree to it.
● Young people should work on long term goals rather than
working for short term fame and recognition.
● Due to the glitz and glamor of the media, young people
often feel that winning a competition will make them
famous easily.
● But they fail to notice that the amount of hard work they are
putting for this fame will actually not bear any fruits in the
future. For eg: In reality shows of finding musical talents,
children often rehearse for the trendy songs and dance
forms.
Contd...
● They win the competition and gain popularity among the mass,
but they forget to make their classical base strong. Whereas the
maestros in these fields have all been trained in classical forms
and in the long run they have got recognition due to their
expertise. Due to their strong classical base, adapting other forms
of music became easy.
● Their wish to achieve fame and recognition is achieved but they
fail to make their base strong which would in turn give them a
bright future.
● So these examples helps me to agree that young people should
have a definite long term goal and should thus plan out the short
term goal which would enable them to achieve their goals in
future.
Instruction 4

Write a response in which you discuss which view

more closely aligns with your own position and explain
your reasoning for the position you take. In developing
and supporting your position, you should address both
of the views presented.

of the views presented.
Highlights
● Discuss which view more closely aligns with your
own position.
● Give logic and examples to substantiate your views.
● Explain your reasoning.
● Address both the views to make your reasoning
perfect and show how both the views helped you
shape your position.
What should you do??
● You can take a position.
● Discuss which view relates to your position more.
● Substantiate with different examples and logic.
● Discuss the other view as well and form your argument on
how you reached the conclusion.
● Conclude.
Example

Some people believe that our ever-increasing use of

technology significantly reduces our opportunities for
human interaction. Other people believe that
technology provides us with new and better ways to
communicate and connect with one another.
A brief of it...
● I believe that technology is providing with new and improved
forms of communication with people.
● Previously telephone was not there and people had to
communicate through letters .Now due to mobile phone and
internet people are always connected.
● Social networking sites are enabling people to be in touch with
people who are not in the same country as well very easily.
● Some may believe that due to internet and social networking
people find less time to interact with each other personally, but if
we see the data of conversation happening around the world
among people, we will differ with this view.
Contd...
● Due to addiction to social networking people are hooked on
to internet whole day, so some people are of the opinion that
this is reducing human interaction.
● But on the other hand people are virtually connected to each
other. Thus it cannot be said that technology has reduced
interaction. It might have decreased personal interaction but
virtually people are connected. So it can be concluded that
technology has given better and improved ways of
communication.
So what is the difference?
● Recommendation: You have to agree or disagree. Give
specific circumstances to show your point of view. Prove
how it can be advantageous or not.
● View: You have to give your logic. Discuss which view
you support most. Also address the other view .Reason it out
how it helped you come to your conclusion.
Hope you have understood the difference between the
two and now you know how to approach each type.

Let's give you 2 topics, each for one type. Write on

them and send it to your SFAs.
Topics to write on

● Recommendation: A nation should require all of its students

to study the same national curriculum until they enter
college.
● View : Some people believe that college students should
consider only their own talents and interests when choosing a
field of study. Others believe that college students should
base their choice of a field of study on the availability of jobs
in that field.

up to par with GRE level and math sections are too good; not
just fun to solve but it prepared me to such an extent that I
barely felt GRE to be a challenge”
