Add new clause:

15. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR MACHINES IN HAZARDOUS AREAS

15.1 GENERAL

15.1.1 Certification
Machines designed in accordance with IEC 60079 shall be duly certified by a ‘Notified
Body’.
NOTE: ‘Notified Body’ was previously called ‘Authorised Certification Body’.

The certification shall not be invalidated by additional features as indicated in this DEP.
Examples of these are:
drain holes (2.6.1)
protective systems (11.8)
noise abatement measures (9.17)

15.1.2 Permitted protection types

The requisition will specify the details of the classification of the area of installation. This will
include the zone, gas group and temperature group.
Unless otherwise stated in the requisition the following types of protection are acceptable:

Zone 2 Ex ‘n’ (preferred) not allowed where the nominal voltage exceeds 6.6 kV
not for centrifugal/screw hydrocarbon gas compressors
Ex ‘e’ not allowed where the nominal voltage exceeds 6.6 kV
not for centrifugal/screw hydrocarbon gas compressors
Ex ‘d’
Ex ‘p’
Zone 1 Ex ‘e’ only allowed for LV motors
Ex ‘d’
Ex ‘p’

15.1.3 Lube-oil systems

Machines that drive a centrifugal/screw hydrocarbon gas compressor shall not have their
lube-oil systems combined with that of the driven equipment.

15.1.4 Bonding straps

Machines shall be fitted with bonding straps across joints within or between the main
enclosure, the bed plate and the heat exchanger. Bonding across the main frame and
terminal box is necessary unless the Manufacturer can demonstrate the absence of
circulating current effects. Internal steelwork, e.g. air guides, shall be such that no sparking
can occur across joints.

15.2 REQUIREMENTS FOR MACHINES OF TYPE OF PROTECTION ‘e’

The machine shall comply with IEC 60079-7.
Listed below are the options to be selected where IEC 60079-7 gives alternatives:
Winding and rotor temperatures shall under operating conditions not exceed the limiting
temperature determined by the temperature group applicable;
Winding temperatures shall not exceed the maximum temperatures specified for Class

B insulation materials as specified in table 3 of IEC 60079-7.

15.3 REQUIREMENTS FOR MACHINES OF TYPE OF PROTECTION ‘d’

The machine shall comply with IEC 60079-1.
Terminal boxes fitted to the machine shall have type of protection 'e'.

15.4 REQUIREMENTS FOR MACHINES OF TYPE OF PROTECTION ‘p’

The machine shall comply with IEC 60079-2.
For machines with type of protection 'p' the temperature limitations specified in clause 8.10
of IEC 60034-1 shall apply.
A minimum over-pressure of 50 Pa, relative to the external atmospheric pressure at every
point within the enclosure, shall be maintained for all types (px, py and pz).
Terminal boxes fitted to the machine shall be of type of protection 'e' or ‘p’.

15.5 REQUIREMENTS FOR MACHINES OF TYPE OF PROTECTION ‘n’

The machine shall comply with IEC 60079-15.
Auxiliary devices mounted on the machine for protective, alarm or other purposes shall
comply with the appropriate standard for the type of protection of electrical equipment used
in hazardous areas.
For Type ‘n’ machines a Declaration of Compliance shall be issued by the Manufacturer,
however the Principal may request a Certificate of Conformity issued by an independent
testing station.

15.6 REQUIREMENTS FOR MACHINES IN AREAS WITH HAZARDOUS DUST

The specification of electrical machines for use in areas where there is a flammable dust
hazard shall be in accordance with IEC 61241. The Principal shall provide the relevant
details in the quotation stage.
