LESSON OVERVIEW

This lesson will introduce students to their summative

assessment for the unit of learning. Students will be shown an
online platform in which they will use to create their
assessment piece as well as have an opportunity to draw
together all their knowledge and understanding from the unit.
During this time frame, the students and teacher will together
explore the assessment rubric in depth to ensure all the
marking criteria is understood and that expectations have been
made clear.
 STRUCTURE OF LESSON

INTRODUCTION

Students in small groups discuss the
importance of themes, characters and
plot for a story.
Students observe educator demonstration
of online platform story cube
Students select a one of the Dreamtime
stories in which their assessment will be
based.
Students begin planning for their story
cube assessment.
Teacher opens mind map activity from
previous lesson and initiates discussion
on the 3 Dreamtime stories.
Teacher points out the main elements of
the text (e.g characters, themes, plot etc)
and allows time for students to discuss
each element.
Teacher provides demonstration on how
to use the online platform story cube.

BODY OF LESSON

STUDENTS DO TEACHER DOES

Students begin using the online Educator supports students where

story. In this cube option, students
summarise the key elements of their
selected story, including character,
setting, conflict, resolution, and
overarching theme. Students must also
identify their favorite part of the story
with provided explanation
Students then create several key
images to support the text using

the unit
necessary, however, limits contribution
as this is an assessment piece.
For students struggling, educator may
revisit the guided practice phase and
construct a story cube together as a
small group, This will provided those
students with a model to follow,
however, this support will need to be
noted as part of their assessment
marking rubric.

LESSON CLOSE

The close of the lesson will be simple as this is the beginning of several lessons
where students will continue working on this same activity. It is important, however,
to recap on the importance of the assessment rubric and how this provides students
with a guide to their work. Encourage students to save their work in more than one
place so that they avoid the risk of losing their work thus far.
Additionally, students may be asked to share one face of their story cube with the
remainder of the class as this will ensure that students are kept working throughout
the lesson as well as provide other students ideas and inspiration for their own story
cube.
