INTRODUCTION
In these pages you’ll find scenting profiles for 47 Essential Oils from
Certified Aromatherapist, Kathy Steinbock. Of course favorites including
Lavender and Jasmine are profiled, but she also included Black Pepper,
Hyssop, Lemongrass, Myrrh, Vetiver and Palmarosa, and many more.
You can use this guide to chose the essential oil—or oils, and enhance
carrier oils, hand, body and massage lotions, shower gels, salts, soaks,
soaps, and more!
Allspice: Rich, warm clove-like sent, yet soft and spicy fragrance, like
balsamic. Blends well with Lavender, Ylang Ylang, and Patchouli.
Anise: Licorice; warm, spicy and sweet. Blends well with Cypress, Pine,
Rose, and Lavender.
Basil: Sweet; herbaceous green and uplifting. Spicy, warm and fiery,
somewhat like licorice. Blends well with Rosemary, Geranium, Clary
Sage, Oakmoss, and Sandalwood.
Cedar wood: Soft, sweet, warm, woody-balsamic and fruity with honey
overtones. Blends well with Bergamot, Frankincense, Juniper, Cypress,
Vetivert, Ylang Ylang, Allspice, and most citrus oils.
Cypress: Fresh, woody, clear, light, balsamic and sweet, slightly spicy
with a clean scent. Blends well with Juniper, Patchouli, Oakmoss,
Bergamot, and Chamomile
Geranium: Flowery rose, sweet, dry citrus undertone, green with a hint
of mint. Blends well with Lavender, Neroli, Bergamot and most Citrus
Oils, Clove, and Patchouli.
Ginger: Known for its peppery, sharp, fresh, pungent, woody, spicy,
warm and earthy aromatic scent. It blends well with Sandalwood, Lime
and other Citrus Oils, Cedarwood, Coriander, and Patchouli.
Grapefruit: Warm, sweet and fresh citrus with slight floral undertone.
Blends well with other Citrus Oils, Spice Oils, Cypress, Geranium,
Lavender, Patchouli, and Rosemary.
Lemon: The most well known of citrus scents, lemon is clean, light,
sweet, fresh and sugary aroma. Blends well with all Citrus Oils,
Lavender, Geranium, Chamomile, Benzoin, Petitgrain, Ylang Ylang, and
most Spice Oils.
Lime: Fresh, sharp-fruity citrus-peel scent, sweet and candy like. Blends
well with other Citrus Oils, Lavender, Citronella, and Clary Sage.
Mandarin: Warm, citrus, sweet and fruity with floral overtones. Blends
well with Neroli and Most Citrus Oils, and Spice Oils.
Neroli: Delicate yet rich, warm-floral, powdery, spicy, sweet with highly
radiant fragrance. Blends well with Jasmine, all Citrus Oils, Chamomile,
Geranium, Ylang Ylang, Clary Sage, and Benzoin.
Sweet Orange: Fresh, fruity, tangy and sweet-- a perky and lively scent.
Blends well with all other Citrus Oils, many Spice Oils, Clay Sage, and
Lavender.
Tangerine: Sweet, sparkling fresh citrus. Blends well with Neroli and
Most Citrus Oils, and Spice Oils.
Vetiver/t: Deep, smoky, earthy and musty with both a softness and
full-bodied, sweet woody aroma. Blends well with Bay Laurel, Black
Pepper, Sandalwood, Rose Patchouli, Oakmoss, Clary Sage, Ylang
Ylang and other Spice Oils.
Ylang Ylang: Intensely sweet soft, spicy, balsamic and floral, Tropical
and heady, this is a distinctive, sweet, intense, floral, creamy and rich
scent. Blends well with Bergamot, Peru Balsam, Most Citrus Oils And
Spice Oils.
