Shanidar Cave

Is the biggest and most famous cave in Kurdistan, it's an archeological

site located on Bradost Mountain in the Erbil governorate of Kurdistan
region. At first the cutcherry archeological and heritage founded this
cave, but the one who investigated in it, it was a professor American
(Ralph Solecki), his craving into the cave was began from 1901 to 1961
on the other hand it hasn’t craved it in a lot deepen yet.
It’s deep which investigated from archeologists is 14 meter. This deepen
effect is four flake of remanence, at the top is known by this (A,B,C,D)
from the process analyst with Carbon (C14) it’s the oldest age flake
which is envisaged 45 – 60 thousand years.

At the flake known was founded a lot bones of animals such as (sheep,
goat, the back turtle). Thus it’s founded four sekeleton, the first refer to
a six month child, and others refer to three young people, one of them
lost one of his hand at the childhood who was 25 years old.
The Shanidar Cave was not the first location of Neanderthal skeleton
discovery, but it was the first that shed light on the burial practices and
causes of death among Neanderthal.

Archeologists believe that Shanidar 1 was taken care of by the o ther

Neanderthals in his social group. It would have been very difficult for
him to live long enough for his injuries to partially heal without help
from others. At the time, this was a significant discovery, as it lessened
the strongly-held belief that Neanderthals were solitary in nature.
The Shanidar Cave is not only home to Neanderthal skeletons, but also
to over 30 other “proto-Neolithic” skeletons that have been dated to
roughly 10,000 years BC. One of these skeletons, Shanidar 3, is on
display at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.
Shanidar 3 traveled over 6,000 miles from Iraqi Kurdistan to Washington
D.C.
