“Movie is not simply the Inception of the Idea, but how the Idea is related to

The Identity and Selfhood of Incepted. Discuss.”

Inception means the beginning of something or the installation of some ideology or some idea

into the minds. Christopher cinematic oeuvre is filled with such no conventionalized and

complex ideas about science and innovation. He tries to push the limits with his every new

release. The movie inception is all about, instilling ideas into people’s minds as well as

extracting from minds. As the title of the movie self explains the subject matter of the story, we

are conveniently aware of the scientific adventure coming our way once we plan on binging on

this movie.

If we delve deeper into the movie and explore its diverse dimension we could fairly

comprehend the apparent connection between the movie and our today’s social structure. Just as

in the movie Renaldo DiCaprio is trying to manipulate and make people believe what he wants

them to believe, in the reality our very own social world people are subjects to the bourgeois

mentality, and they construct their own identity and gender roles according to the bourgeois

parameters. According to certain writers, ideas are basically not realities they are imaginary

relationships with the perceived reality. People think that they are individual beings and

construct their own identity but if we deconstruct the social structures we come to the conclusion
that all our identity perception is relative to the social construction we are not exempted from

their influences. Just as in the movie Inception DiCaprio is fabricating different ideas into the

minds of his subjects similarly society instills certain stereotyped identity ideologies into its

denizen’s minds and anyone who tries to construct his own identity out of the conventionalized

modes is out rightly ostracized.

According to Althusser’s article Ideology and ideological state apparatuses society works

according to certain state apparatuses which manipulate individual’s identity and instill a sort of

illusion that he or she are constructing their own identity whereas in realty identities are

constructed around the rigid structure of social structure which is inherently divided into

different classes.
