“Bollywood Looses Two Gems in a Row”

“The Indian cinema got poorer when it lost its two brilliant actors in just two days. Irrfan

Khan and Rishi Kapoor bowed out of their life-stage on April 29 and 30 respectively”

Indian film industry which is called Bollywood has lost two stars back to back. Irrfan Khan, a

beloved actor, had cancer and died of an infection. Rishi Kapoor, who had leukemia, also died.

The two stars were so different.

“It seems like we’re in the midst of a nightmare,” tweeted Akshay Kumar, one of Bollywood’s

most successful actors

Do You Know About His Struggle? Like many other applicant actors, Irrfan Khan struggled

hard during his early days to get a foothold in Indian cinema. He emerged from adversity more

determined and resolute.

Gifted with talent, Irrfan broke into mainstream cinema when his film Life in a Metro was

released in 2007. Thereafter, his good fortune continued with films like Lunch Box, Life of Pi,

Paan Singh Tomar and Piku in which he acquitted himself really well.

Besides being acknowledged at home, he went on to make his mark in British and Hollywood

movies. For his immense talent, he remained in the news for all the right reasons. This is no

overstatement but actors like Irrfan Khan are born but seldom.

On the other hand, some individuals are instantly mesmeric. Rishi Kapoor was one such person.

Though he acted for the first time as an adolescent actor in 1970 in Mera Naam Joker, Rishi

made a dream in Bobby in 1973. The film heralded the arrival of teenage romance in Indian
cinema and Rishi was perfectly cut out as a teenage lover. He certainly charmed his fans and

became a heartthrob overnight.

The Indian cinema is dominated by the Kapoors. From their great grandfather Prithviraj Kapoor

to Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor, Shashi Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Rajiv Kapoor,

Karisma Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor, all of whom achieved greatness.

Like his father and uncles, Rishi Kapoor too had a terrific sense of music which he never failed

to prove while picturising songs for his films.

Mr. Kapoor acted practically his entire life, appearing as a toddler in his father’s films (his father

was also a director) and continuing work until just recently. His Bollywood heyday was several

decades ago when he sang and danced as one romantic hero after the next.

His last important film was “Mulk,” a 2018 courtroom drama written and directed by Anubhav

Sinha that tackled the rising Islamophobia in India.

Taapsee Pannu, who co-starred in the film, tweeted: “That laugh, that sense of humor, the

honesty and even the bully he was, will be missed. No one like you”

On Wednesday morning, Irrfan Khan, a beloved actor who broke through to Hollywood and

seemed to resonate especially well with fans, died at age 53. Mr. Khan had cancer and was

admitted to a hospital in Mumbai for a colon infection last week.

“A star joins other stars in the sky. Thank You for everything, Irrfan khan” said Paulo Coelho

“Many people would have wanted to say goodbye, but this is how Irrfan would have wanted it,"

said Vishal Bhardwaj, a director who attended the funeral, which was held on Wednesday. “He

never made a show about anything. Success never changed him.’’

Then, on Thursday morning, India was shocked to learn of the death of Rishi Kapoor. Mr.

Kapoor, 67, was a Bollywood giant, a handsome, charming matinee idol who starred in dozens

of films in the 1970s and ’80s, and hailed from an illustrious film family.

Mr. Kapoor found out he had leukemia in 2018, and was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai on

Wednesday, but an exact cause of death was not immediately given. Mr. Kapoor was cremated

Thursday afternoon in Mumbai, where he lived. That, too, was a small ceremony.

“My Chintu darling has gone,” wrote Simi Garewal, a famous actress, on Twitter, using one of

Mr. Kapoor’s pet names. “My dearest friend … my co-star … my playmate. The one who used

to make me laugh till I cried! Now there are only tears. No last goodbye. No funeral. No

consoling embraces. Silence. Emptiness. Grief.”

Still, many people said they felt especially sad that the two men were sent off without a befitting

crowd of those who loved and adored them.

Their fans will remember them for a very long time.
