Senior High School Department Promotes Proper Nutrition in the Nutrition Month Celebration

To increase awareness on the importance of proper nutrition, Mapandan National - Senior High School
initiated the Nutrition Month Celebration last July 15-19, 2019 with the theme, "Kumain nang wasto at
maging aktibo… Push natin ‘to!,” Students from different strands participated in the contests namely;
Spoken poetry, Slogan and Poster making, Nutri quiz and Zumbalympics.
On July 15, 2019, Spoken Poetry was held.In this event, students expressed their thoughts and
understanding about years' theme through speaking in free verse and poetically. On July 16, 2019,
Technical Vocational Livelihood (TVL) teachers conducted supplementary feeding to the severely wasted
students. They served free food snacks (macaroni soup with flake chicken, vegetable, egg, banana, bread,
and lemongrass juice). The said feeding was funded by the school canteen. On July 18, 2019, Slogan
Poster Making and Nutri-Quiz was also administered. Students showed their skills and creativity and their
eagerness to by answering from easy, average and difficult questions.
On the last day, June 19, 2019 was the culminationg activity. Sir Danny S. Agutin, Principal IV said “we
should go and push Pagkaing wasto especially raw fruits and vegetables available in our yard and in the
locality.” Madam Alma G. Fama, Division School Nurse discussed the importance of proper and wise
selection of the right food. Afterwards. Hon. Venneson L. Peria, Municipal Councilor Chairman,
Committee on Education encouraged everyone to eat and live healthy through consuming right food and
engaging to activities that will lead to greater stamina and energized body.
The Guest Speaker Hon. Alicia Agustin Mariano, Municipal Councilor Chairman, Committee on
Agriculture speaks on the Importance of planting fruits and vegetable in the backyard and becoming
healthy by doing productive activities. The program pushed on by Zumbalympics and Nutri-Jingle
contests wherein the participants displayed their extreme talents in dancing zumba and singing nutri-
jingle songs which originally composed by theme in connection to the theme.
The Nutrition Month celebration aims to mitigate the poor health conditions of many young people whose
food preference include junk food, sugar-laden drinks and fat saturated fast food and street food products.
Poor health is a major problem in the development of a strong and productive work force.
