I Introduction:
1.1 Objective and scope of work
The main objective of the consultancy service is to review the existing condition of the bridge by
conducting detailed design calculations of RCC girders based on provided data and drawings
like as built or GFC drawings.
1.2 General
3 bridges located in Purba Medinipur have 11.2 m wide bridge width. These bridges are still
under construction. Typical span length of simply supported RCC girder ( cast-in-situ) or
precast girders is 30m.
This report as mentioned earlier presents detailed design calculations for RCC girders which can
be either cast-in-situ or pre-cast girders. These two types of superstructures are analyzed and
summary of calculations or results is provided in chapter 2. Annexure 1 and annexure 2 provide
detailed engineering calculations.
Annexure 3 of this report provides GFC drawings as shared by the contractor which has
sizes of the various members of the RCC girders along with reinforcement detailing.
For bridge under investigation, fundamental assumption is that all technical compliances
with respect to designing, planning and execution are in accordance with IRC provisions.
Various clauses related to durability as mentioned in section 14 of IRC 112-2011 are strictly
followed. Material, quality control and workmanship of construction are as per section 18 of
IRC 112 along with MoRTH guidelines issued from time to time.
We have assumed following particulars are strictly followed in order to assure desired results are
obtained as per our services -
1 Execution was carried out by personnel having appropriate qualification, skill and experience
2 Adequate supervision and quality control are provided during all stages of design
and construction.
3 Construction materials and products are provided and used as specified in relevant
national standards.
4 The intended levels of properties of material adopted in the design are actually
are available on site.
5 The structure is used as intended and is maintained adequately.

II Executive Summary:
As per the design check calculations attached in annexures ,
Two types of RCC girders - either cast in situ or pre-cast are checked for their capacities.
It can be seen, both safety margins and failure margins are provided to appreciate lower
steel provided in the girder
As per the original design document, grade of concrete was taken as M45.
Failure margin is taken as the worst among various limit checks.
Legend: Green color - indicates Girder is safe with % safety margin written
Orange color - indicates Girder is failed with % failure margin written
Red color - indicates simple % failure margin for corresponding case taken as
being worst among all cases

2 SECTION PROPERTIES
Preamble
Following pages cover the analysis and design of 30.05m long R.C.C. Girder.
Precast girders for Superstructure of MBL flyover, West Bengal
Design Methodology: This design is based on Limit State Method and load factors are
considered as per IRC:6-2017. The design is checked for following combinations:
(i) Ultimate Limit State Combination: Basic Combination for only girder and composite girder case
(ii) Serviceability Combination for Rare and Quasi permanent case for composite girder case
B) Shear Check
Shear force due to self-weight, SIDL and Live load is calculated and accordingly shear
reinforcement is provided. Interface shear between slab and girder is also checked.

Preamble
Following pages cover the analysis and design of 30.05m long R.C.C. Girder.
Precast girders for Superstructure of MBL flyover, West Bengal
Design Methodolgy: This design is based on Limit State Method and load factors are considered
as per IRC:6-2017.
