Guidelines for preparing Technical Seminar report

• The CIE marks awarded for Technical seminar shall be based on the evaluation of Seminar
report, Presentation skills and question and answers session in the ratio 50:25:25
• The seminar report shall be comprised of total 20- 25 pages maximum. It should include
Title page, Certificate, Declaration, Acknowledgement, Abstract, Table of contents, list of
figures, and list of graphs, Text, References.
Introduction 1-2 pages
Literature review 2-4pages
Objective 1-2pages
Methodology/theory 6-8pages
Conclusion 1-2pages
Scope for further Study 1- page
References 1- page
• Report should be typed neatly only on one side of the paper on A4 size bond paper with
margins as top-1”, bottom -1.15”, left -1.5”, right -0.6”. Line spacing- 1.5, Font-Times new
roman. Alignment justified (full text)
• Title : bold, font size -18,
o First order heading (example 1.INTRODUCTION) bold -16
o Second order heading (example 1.1 General) bold -14
o Third order heading (example 1.1.1 Basic Features) bold -12
o Text -12
• Abstract (up to 200 words )
o Heading – bold -12
o Remaining text – Italic -12
• Figures and Tables: Figure caption must be below the figure and centered. Table caption
must be above the table and centered.
• Numbering of pages should start from Introduction to references (1, 2, 3….n) and before
pages numbering to be done in Roman (I, II, III…)
• Header: Title Font- right hand, Times new roman, size-12. (no header should be applied to
cover page, front page, index, abstract, references)
• Footer: Title (Structural Engineering Program, Department of Civil Engineering, VTU
Belagavi-18) - left hand, page no. - Right hand. Font- Times new roman, size -12
• Reference to be written in order first the author (ACCORDING TO OCCURING)
(example Prof XYZ , second title to be enclosed in inverted comma (example - ”Title”)
title should be written in italic, third is the publication /journal/ text book name/ publisher
name for text book , fourth is the Volume , month , year. Publication details and/or URL
must be in italics.
[Citation number] Author’s name, “Article Title”, Journal, Publisher, Location, Year,
Edition/reprint PP page No start-End
[Citation number] Author’s name, “Article Title”, complete URL of web page
[Citation number] Author’s name, “Title of the book”, Publication, Edition, Year of
printing.
• The total number of reports to be prepared are
 o One copy to the department.
o One copy to the concerned guide.
o One copy to the candidate.
