Uses of the past: Archaeology in the service of the state

The text can offer to the reader a bad perspective of the archeology, or some of the

uses applied to this discipline. The text explains how people have used

archaeology as a pretext for their own benefits, these benefits can be political (In

the present) or for power (In the past). Why I talk about the past and the present?

Because we must understand that the society is in constantly changing, and that

includes the forms of power. On the other hand, the text has some fortress like the

“sense of belonging” by the archaeology to defend the true purpose of this science,

and it’s to study de human past and the origin of this through artifacts and ecofacts.

So, in mi opinion, the author can explain or give more examples about how the

state use the archaeology in their favor, because I think that the 3 examples in the

text are too general and the other examples can complement the ideas of the

author. And finally, I think that the idea of the text is very good, but in some parts of

this, the common thread that connects ideas is sometimes lost and creates

confusion.
