Let’s learn more about fraction, AS YOU CAN SEEE, fraction has two parts, they are the

top and the

bottom part

A = Numerator
B = Denominator
Numerator = is the number of an equal parts which has been taken out or which has been
left out.
Denominator = is the total number of equal parts in which a whole was divided into.
Center line = is the line which divides the numerator from the denominator.

So if we have a circle here or a whole circle, and we are going to split it or divide it into two
(We can have two parts, the 1st half and the 2nd half)
= And how do we apply fraction here?
Remember about the parts of a fraction which I mention earlier, the TOP and the Bottom
part we can apply it here.
The bottom part is the called Denominator which is the total number of equal parts in a
whole
1. And so the number of parts in which the circle was divided into are 2 , and that will
be our Denominator.
While the Numerator is the number of equal parts that has been taken.
2. If I’m going to take away 1 part of the circle which we divided, that part will be our
numerator
So we come up with ½ 1 which has been taken away from the 2 parts.
And now let’s think of an object that we can split to share to apply fraction
Song about Pizza: G –Am (2x) ( C-D) G-D
I had a pizza I cut it in two, one slice for me and one slice for you
But then came my brother and my sister too
I had a pizza what could I do.

I had a pizza I cut it in four, four equal slices

Two more, than before
But then came my cousins through the front door
Four hungry cousins we needed four more.

Here, we have a pizza, This pizza is divided into 6 evenly slices which
makes it a whole of a pizza.
=And so the pizza is divided into 6 slices so our Denominator will be 6
= And if I’m going to eat 1 slice, that 1 slice will our Numerator.
So we come up with a fraction of 1/6

And now, I’m going to give a situation and will ask you a question about our topic.

1. If you and your friend have one chocolate bar to share with and you cut it into 4
pieces. And then you decided to give 2 pieces to your friend.

Question: What is the Denominator of your fraction?

What is the Numerator?

2. An apple pie is divided into six evenly slices, and you eat 2 slices of it.
