1.7.2 Viewer:
AVEVA diagram is a Microsoft Visio based environment, split in two main parts:

A database tree inventorying all object created during the diagram

1 creation (called “schematic Explorer”),

2 A view window where the diagram can be seen

1 2
1.8 Browsing the “Schematic explorer”

“Schematic explorer” contains the project

structure; the top part represents the ITER
PBS tree where AVEVA diagrams will be
created and stored, with associated databse
information

The PBS folders can be browsed up to

level 3. Folder at level 1, level 2 or and
level 3 only represent the PBS structure.

Description and definition of ITER

PBS See “Iter Plant Breakdown
structure” 28WB2P
AVEVA SC_GROU folder can
only be found inside a PBS level
3 folder, SC_GROU folder
contains diagrams and databse
element such as components and
pipe lines. All these objects are
necessarily included in a PBS
level 3.

A PBS level 3 may contain

several SC_GROU folders. This
should happen only if additional
sorting of diagrams and database
information is necessary.
A SC_GROU folder contains
several subfolders, in particular the
Diagram folder.

diagrams are single page

documents: example here we have
4 documents for PBS 26PHNB
(litteraly, 4 piping and instrument
diagram sheets representing the
cooling water system /primary
heat/ neutral beam system)

Example of typical naming rules for diagrams

PBS-1 26
PBS-2 26PH
PBS-3 26PHNB
SCGROU 26PHNB-PID
SCDIAG 26PHNB-PID-0001
1.8.1 Equipment naming convention

A SC_GROU folder contains also

the equipment belonging to this
PBS level 3, the component are
named with iter numbering system.
(See iter numbering system in IDM
28QDBS, and iter function
category and types 2FJMPY)

Equipments are created in this

folder when designed inside
diagrams (In a majority of cases,
designed in digrams of the same
SC_GROU, But components may
also exist on diagrams situated in
other PBS 3/SC_GROU.)

Equipment naming shall comply with the following structure:

SCEQUI PPPPPP-TTT-NNNN

Where:
 SCNEQUI is automatically AVEVA root name for this item type
 PPPPPP-TTT-NNNN shall be equipment name according to ITER
numbering system

Example:
SCEQUI 26PHNB-PL-1000
1.8.2 Nozzle naming convention

Equipments are named with Iter

numbering system and can contain
sub-items such as nozzles.

Nozzles does not receive individual

Iter numbering system name.

Nozzle naming shall comply with the following structure:

SCNOZZ PPPPPP-TTT-NNNN/NX

Where:

 SCNOZZ is automatically AVEVA root name for this item type

 PPPPPP-TTT-NNNN shall be parent equipment name
 NX shall be N followed by a number from 1 included to 99 included.
 The nozzle number is single digit when figure belong to [1 : 9]

Example

SCNOZZ 26PHBD-HX-1040/N5
SCNOZZ 26PHBD-HX-1040/N10
1.8.3 Pipeline naming convention

Exemple: all pipeline created

for SCGROU 26PHVV-PID

Pipeline naming shall comply with the following structure:

SCPLIN PPPPPP-TTT-NNNN

Where:
 SCNPLIN is automatically AVEVA root name for this item type
 PPPPPP-TTT-NNNN shall be pipeline name according to ITER
numbering system.

Example:
SCPLINE 26PHVV-PI-9012

down menu.

The pipeline properties menu is opened, the creation of the pipeline takes 6 steps
individually described in the next pages:
7

Steps description:

1. Do not enter information in “name field” it will be generated as result of the

next operations.

2. Fill the primary system information

launch “select
system”dialogue
box

“select System” dialogue box opens:

Choose appropriately the
system appropriately
according to work
specification. And click
OK

(example for TCWS,

always expand “TCWS-
DESCOND” folder and
select the appropriate
design conditions)

After clicking ok on “select system” the following question appear:

Click yes, so that the specification of the pipe will be the one from
the selected system (this overwrite any manual entry for Pipe
specification).
3. Fill the secondary systems information

Click on “+”
button to launch
“select system”
dialogue box.

Expand
ITER/SYSTEM/PIPING
folder and Select the
system attribute
appropriately according to
work specification.

Remark: If work specification is not explicit on this question, then by default

select “SYSGPR PRIMARY” or “SYSGPR SECONDARY”, in order to qualify
the pipeline created as either a primary process pipeline, or secondary process
pipeline, from the point of view of the system designed. (primary system, when the
pipeline is directly contributing to the realization of the process depicted,
secondary for pipeline not playing a fundamental role regarding the process
depicted, like bypass pipeline for equipment periodic maintenance, etc.)
4. Enter a line number corresponding to NNNN part as defined in ITER
numbering system (28QDBS).

Enter manually the

four digits NNNN
by filling in the text
box.

Remark on pipe numbering:

Case 1, number already taken:

As you enter enter manually the four

digits NNNN …

…the software message log warns you if

the number entered is already used.

The software will not accept to create 2

pipelines with identical

PPPPPP-TTT-NNNN
Case 2: proper entry and number available

As you enter an available NNNN…

… the software add to the

schematic explorer the SCPLIN
properly named inside the
pipeline folder as per session
default

Case 3: Entering a line number not made of 4 digits:

As you enter a number with more than 4
digits…

… the software may still add to the schematic

explorer the SCPLIN numbered using the 4
last digit of the number entered.

As you enter a number with less than 4

digits …

… the software may still add to the schematic

explorer the SCPLIN numbered by adding “0”
to make the NNNN a 4 digit number.
(example, if you do not fill any NNNN, the
software therefore creates the pipe with 0000,
if this number is free)
Case 5: entering alphanumeric values will result in an error message:
Pipeline name is proposed automatically by the software, after entering a valid
NNNN in the line number:

A pipeline name is automatically built by the

software, resulting from session default and
line number entered. (if necessary, click in the
grey zone of the Pipeline properties window to
refresh the name field)

5. Enter the default bore

Click to edit the default bore, enter

manually the bore value. The software will
accept only numeric value
6. Enter the pipe specification:

Clik on the specification tab

The specification may be already filled in

(inherited from “primary system” selection)
if not click here to select the pipe spec
To select the specification, expand SPWL
ITER/SPEC, and choose from available
spec. click ok when finished.

7. Fill-in attributes:
Browse the different property Tabs and fill
Click OK
in the rest of the pipeline attributes
when finished
according to work specification.

After creation, all pipelines’ naming shall comply with the following structure:
SCPLIN PPPPPP-TTT-NNNN
The pipelines can be browsed in the schematic explorer

Exemple: all pipelines created

for SCGROU 26PHVV-PID

If pipelines are created

without the proper
completed name, they
still appear in the
schematic explorer but
with an incomplete
name. The pipeline
properties need to be
edited again to complete
proper pipeline names

To modify a pipeline name, right click on the SCPLIN item in the schematic
explorer and then click pipeline properties to bring the property menu.
1.10.2 Branch
In chapter 1.10.1, the creation of a Pipeline only added a new object in the
schematic explorer. The branch is an item belonging to a pipeline which is created
when a “Branch” item is added to the content pages.

Branch items are located in ITER_Piping stentcil, there are three item types
available, the only difference between the three items available is the label
displayed on the content page when you drag and drop the item:

 “Branch”: label display pipe tag and DN.

 “Branch DC”: label display tag, DN, DC (design condition) and insulation
spec
 “Branch Spec”: Label display tag, DN, pipe spec and insulation spec

Drag and drop Branch item

from stencil to page

CE on the pipeline
As soon as dropped on the page, the branch item is created as a sub node of the
CE pipeline. Following drop on the page, a “search specification” dialogue box
pop up, select the BORE diameter. Finally, notice that sub object to the branch is
also created automatically, is it a segment.
Select bore diameter after
dropping branch item on the
page

SCBRAN and SCSEG created automatically

bellow the CE pipeline.

TAG: the pipeline tag is

automatically displayed
on top of the connection
line

LABEL: The Pipeline

Label is automatically
displayed bellow the
connection line
Branch naming shall comply with the following structure:
SCBRAN PPPPPP-TTT-NNNN/BX

Where:
 SCNBRAN is automatically AVEVA root name for this item type
 PPPPPP-TTT-NNNN is automatically inherited from pipeline numbering
 BX is branch number where “X” is the branch number

Example:
SCBRAN 26PHVV-PI-9012/B2

Remarks:
1. Typical Schematic explorer for pipeline folder is 1 branch corresponding to
1 pipeline, because ITER numbering system applies at the pipeline node
level. You may have several branches for one pipeline item in particular
cases, such as when a pipeline must start on a pages and finish on another
pages, using OPC (off page connection objects), then two individual
branches are on two different pages, but the pipeline remain unique.

2. New SCPLINE should be created any time pipe attribute values change,
Example: change in diameter implies creation of a new SCPLINE. You
should not use multiple branch per pipeline in such cases.

3. To move the tag of a branch, right click on the branch and select ‘using
control handle’. The yellow point appears:

Click and move yellow

handles to move tags’
position
4. Slope attribute: Right click on a Pipeline items and select “Attributes…”, the
windows “Attributes of PPPPPP-TT-NNNN” is now displayed. Slope is at
the bottom. Left click to edit the slope text box.

Drag and drop slope

item on the page. Drag and drop the yellow
handle on the connection
line.

The handle is now red

and slope attribute
displayed automatically
5. SCTUB are the lowest nodes of pipeline items, a new SCTUB item will be
added automatically to the SCSEG of the SCBRAN whenever you drag and
drop piping items onto connection line representing the pipeline (Valves,
reducers, etc.). Example “SCPLIN 26PHVV-PI-9920” is composed of 1
branch “B1”, composed of 1 segment “SCSEG1”, composed of 2 valves, 1
reducer and 3 tubes.

6. Connection line head and tails, and connection color code. Head and tail
concept mark the connection line origin and end extrmeties. The head and
tails are to be distinguished as the impact the flow direction and extremity
items types such as OPC (off page connectors) may be compatible with only
one of the two.

Head connected is outlined red

Head not connected is outlined blue

 Connected Head is White square with red outline

 Unconnected Head is white square with blue outline
 Connected Tail is full red square
 Unconnected Tail is full blue square
7. Show flow direction: From ITER_Piping stencil, drag and drop Flow
direction arrow onto the connection line. Position the “arrow tip” onto the
connexion line, the Flow arrow automatically stick to the pipe in position,
point toward the pipe head.

1.10.3 Off-Page Connectors (OPC)

Off-Page Connectors (OPC) are used when pipeline start on a page and finish on
another page, the pipeline reference is the same, but its representation on the
diagrams is discontinuous. To manage the “jump” information between two pages,
2 OPC types are available:

1. Outgoing OPC (SCOPCO)

2. Incoming OPC (SCOPCI).

To create an SCOPCO, drag and dropit from ITER_PIPING stencil, onto the
TAIL extremity of a connection line.

Only TAIL can be

connected to SCOPCO.
Connection is shown with
full red square Head not
connected is blue

The software will refuse connection

between HEAD and SCOPCO
(automatic fallback of the head)
To create an SCOPCI, drag and drop it from ITER_Piping stencil onto the
HEAD extremity of a connection line.

Only HEAD can be connected

to SCOPCI. Connection is
shown with white square red
outlined

As for the SCOPCO, the software will refuse connecting the SCOPCI to a pipe
TAIL.

Remark: If the connection line is in wrong direction, right click on it then

select “reverse branch” (it also reverses flow direction), in order to switch
head and tail.

When connected, OPC appears in the schematic explorer, under the appropriate
Pipeline, branch and segment:
To connect SCOPCO to related SCOPCI(or opposite), right click on the OPC
symbol and select ‘Connect OPC’ from the menu, to bring “select database
element” window

Browse the schematic explorer

tree to find the right OPC
counterpart. Select it and click
ok

OPC are now connected, you may save to refresh content of the OPC.
Fully connected OPC:
Name of the diagram where to
connected OPC can be found.

Location of the connected OPC

on the other page, according to
frame grid identification
Name of the pipeline
represented on two pages. This
name will be the same on the
other page where the pipeline Frame grid identification is
continues situated all along the frame
broder, example, this zone is
A3.

Literally, ready this outgoing OPC means: “SCPLIN 26PHVV-PI_9916 continues

on another content page belonging to diagram 26PHVV-PID-0009, the incoming
OPC on the other diagram page will be situated in zone 1H”

Remark on OPC:

It is mandatory to be able toread OPC consistently from bottom or right hand side
of the diagram page. When rotating OPC shape, make sure to select both OPC
shape and text inside with a window selection box, then rotate obtained group with
Visio rotate key.
Visio rotate
key.
1.10.4 Valves

Valve can be used either as extremity component, and therefore the pipe head or
tail is connected to the valve connection point, or valve item can be drag and
dropped on the connection line, it will typically creates 2 tubes inside the branch,
with the valves positioned in betwee this 2 tubes:

Example: VG-9920 is connected to head of PI-9920, and VK-9900 was dragged

and dropped on PI-9920.

Thus in schematic explorer, VG-9920 is at beginning of the branch, and VK9920 is

between tubes. The branch items appear in order from head to tail.
1 - Drag and drop valve item

Valves can be found in

ITER_On-line_component
stencil, drag and drop the valve
item form the stencil to the page

2 – Enter NNNN

As soon as dropped on the page,

the shape data window is
displayed, Enter NNNN (refer
ITER numbering system
28QDBS)
3 - Choose catalogue valve (spec driven)

After entering NNNN value, the

vavle catalogue is filtering
available vavle as per Branch
specification, choose the valve
from this menu and click ok

Remark

Valve items available during creation process combine a valve symbol (ISO14617)
with an embedded actuator symbol (ISO14617) as long as a valve’ ITER-function-
category (TTT, refer to numbering system 28QDBS).

All three items (valve + Actuator + TTT) are selected at once during selection of
the valve.

 Carefully read the description given during valve selection to also

identify properly the nature of the actuator and the valve function
TTT.

List of available valves is filtered according to the branch specification and

diameter.
4 - The selected valve is now displayed on the content page:

5 - Go to “Shape” tab then “Rotate and flip” button to flip the valve if upside
down (or shortcut “Ctrl + j” to flip verticaly, “Ctrl + h” to flip horizontally)

6 – As valves are dropped on Branches it creates 2 tubes, pipe name is displayed

twice on each tubes. It may be possible to hide one of the two pipe tags:

Duplicated TAG may be

removed

Duplicated Label may be

removed
Click right on the tube, and then click “Hide text” to remove the duplicated PI-
NNNN tag.

The label is only a text box, so left click on it to select the text box and then press
“delete” on keyboard.
At any moment, to bring back pipe label, take it from the stencil, iter piping ,
bottom L2 when drag and drop on the page, grab the yellow button, and slide it
on top of the pipe, it will disply the pipe label.

If yellow square is put on a valve, it works but the label attributes are weird.

7- set the actuator position

Set valve Position

Open the shape data of the valve and find the following attributes
Annexes

Design Condition break

Description

The DC Break symbol could be used to display the two values when the design condition change
between two pipelines.

Case of valves with different Design Condition than both pipes

To handle this special case you should manually set the PSPE and SCSTYP attributes values, with the
whole name of the specification and design condition, after the valve creation.
How to connect directly interface
symbol and reducer?
BY default in-line component should connect between two tubes. This method show how connect
directly in-line symbol with other in-line symbol or with nozzle.

Step by step

Place the symbol as usual.

Delete the unnecessary tube.

Use the Home>Tools>Conn. Point tool to convert

connection point in Outward.

Select the shape close to outward point, to move it

on the connection point, of the destination

How to Display PBS 3 Number in
Diagrams
Description

Normally the element names are displayed in Diagrams without the number of PBS 3, because the
elements are in the current PBS 3 of the Diagrams.

Sometime some elements from different PBS 3 of the current Diagrams, appear in the Diagrams. In
this case we want to display the whole name of the component.

It’s not possible to define an automatic display in this case. So a work method is define bellow.

Work Method

By default the shape text of component display the short tag (without PBS 3 number)

When you create component from a different PBS 3 you should manually modify the shape text to
display the long tag.

The default value of Shape text is like {after(namn,’-‘)}.

To display the long tag you have to change this value to {after(namn,’-‘)} or {namn}.
Help about Off Page Connector
Components
OPC => Off Page Connector are special symbols used to maintain continuity of pipe lines when
moving from one page to another.

Two variants of Off-Page Connectors are supported by the AVEVA Diagrams application, Outgoing
and

Incoming. The Outgoing variant, should be used when the fluid leave the schema and the Incoming
one when the fluid arrive in the schema.

The ITER customization of these symbols is explained bellow:

Pipe Number of Diagram Number Pipe Number of Diagram Number

destination of destination OPC source OPC of source OPC

The shape text is used for display Diagrams Number and Pipe number of connected OPC. A label is
used to display le location of the connected OPC.

You have to select the symbol and the label (Multi Select), before rotate or copy an OPC.

Rotate the tag (shape text) of
components
Description

Normally the element tags are displayed in Diagrams under the graphical component accordingly of
administration definition.

Sometime, user need to rotate the shape text in another direction, for reasons of space in diagrams
or presentation. The Visio shape text can’t be rotate. So a work method is define bellow:

Work Method

If we want manipulate easily a tag in diagrams, we have to replace the default shape text by a label.

Here, an example of equipment not very pretty because of the orientation

of text:

Hide the shape text using a Right Clic>Show Text (uncheck) on the shape.

Place the Name label symbol from the ITER_Piping stencil, close to the
equipment.

Connect the label to the equipment by dragging the yellow connection

point on the equipment.

Use the rotate handle to rotate the label as desired and move the label in
the best position.

Below the result:

Create a secondary shape for 1 equipment:

Choose the primary shape on the canvas, right click and click “copy” in the
popup menu.

Go to the diagram which you want to put the symbol, right click and choose
“paste”in the popup menu. Then a question window shows.

Then click Secondary shape and the secondary shape of the equipment is
created.

Uncheck the “apply on event” button of consistency rules

if you enable this button, there will be disconnection when creating a Tee or valve. So please
uncheck the button.
Area shapes:

a. Create an Area
Go to the area shape in the Schematic Explorer and choose it by click.

Then go to stencil ‘ITER_Piping’, Shift + drag and drop the symbol

‘Area Shape’

b. Create a secondary Area in other sheets/diagrams.

Drag and drop the symbol ‘Area Shape’. This will make an undefined
Area.
Go to the Shape data and fill in the name you need.

A question dialogue window will pop up.

Click yes, and then the secondary Area shape is created.

c. include a component in an area.

Drag the Area shape to where the component is located.
The component will be included in the shape area.

Note: it is recommended that you first create an empty Area and then
drag it to include components.

d. Change the shape of the Area.

Choose the Area by click and go to ‘Home’‘Draw’‘Line’

Ctrl + click on the edge to create a point.

You can create more points as you want.

Then you can drag the point to change the shape.

Delete an Area
you should undine it first.
Equipment naming

a. If you want to change the name of an equipment or component in

shape data, do not modify the ‘Name’, just modify the ‘number’.

Do not rename the equipment in Schematic Explorer, just follow the above.

1. When deleting a symbol, be careful of the question popup

this is to delete a primary symbol from the database. You click ‘yes’ then the
equipment is deleted from the database.

this is to delete a secondary symbol, you should choose ‘no’ to keep the
equipment in the database
Explanation about interface symbol:

Explanation about guard pipe symbol:

Copy a diagram

Open the diagram and then go to projectsave assave diagram as

choose the appropriate folder and type the name

click save then the copy DB items dialog window shows up

check the copy options and click ok.

Then a save work dialogue will also be displayed on completion.

Set the text not rotate with the shape of equipment.

Sometimes you need to rotate the symbol while keep the text stay.
Go to ProjectOptionsDiagrams OptionsEquipment optionsShape text
options, set the grid Rotate with shape to “false”
2. Set the DC for valves different from both the pipes.

To do this, you need to define the system reference for the valve, which is
attribute “ Scsysf ” in the Shape Data.

Then, add DC limits to the valves like below:

alternatively, you can follow the instructions below here to set the attribute “
Scsysf ” :

right click on the shape, choose Set System Reference

then the Set System reference window shows up:

click “+” and then the Select System window shows up.
Select the appropriate DC then click ok

then the DC is added.

Click ok to finish the choosing.

3. Off-Page Connectors

Off-Page Connector (OPC) is used to create discontinuous Pipelines. There

are 2 kinds of OPC: Outgoing OPC (SCOPCO) and Incoming OPC (SCOPCI).

To create an SCOPCO, drag and drop it onto the ending point of a pipeline.

To create an SCOPCI, drag and drop it onto the starting point of a pipeline.

The OPC also appears in the schematic explorer, under the appropriate
Pipeline, branch and segment as a Diagram Element.
To connect an SCOPCO to the related SCOPCI, or vis versa, right click on
the symbol and select ‘Connect OPC’ from its context menu, the ‘Select
database element’ form appears. Use the database tree to navigate to the
SCOPCI element and then click ‘OK’.

NOTE: Make sure that you are at the correct SCPLIN or SCBRAN when you
create a new OPC,

4. AVEVA Diagrams hot key

Ctrl + Shift + left mouse click Zoom in

Ctrl + Shift + right mouse click Zoom out
Ctrl + Shift + left mouse frame selection Zoom to the selection (full screen)
Ctrl + Shift + right mouse drag Pan
Ctrl + middle mouse roll Zoom in/out
Ctrl + Tab switch the windows
Ctrl + R rotate the shape

5. How to add turns for SCTUB

Press shift key and move the midpoint of the tube, a dotted line shows the
turn to be created.

Release the midpoint then the turn is created.

6. How to modify the line jumps (gaps) between vertical and horizontal
lines

Go to Project-->Options-->Page Setup-->layout and Routing-->Line jumps

in this tab, you can modify the pattern of line jumps/gaps.

7. Change sheet
Position window
8. TTT code of double wall pipe is changed to PI, same with normal pipe.

TTT code of DWP is PI. If the pipe number has been used, name a new one.

9. How to connect reducer directly to nozzle

Use the HomeToolsConn. Point tool to convert connection point in

Outward.

Select the shape close to outward point, to move it on the connection point,
of the destination component. You have to see the dynamic red square for a
good connection.
10. How to add a reducer to the head of a branch

For example, we need to create a reducer DN100X80 at the head of branch

DN80. When you put a reducer onto the head, you will see the search
specification window asks for a leave bore smaller than 80, which is not what
we need.

To solve this problem, you choose 65mm to create a temporary reducer

DN80X65. Notice that the branch DN is changed to 65.

Right click on the reducer and choose ‘Resize’ in the menu context. In the
‘Resize/Refit’ window, choose 100mm as Arrive bore and 80mm as Leave
bore and click ok.
Then the reducer DN100/80 is created and the branch DN is resized to 80.
11. How to create an offline instrument (SCOINS)
Firstly, in Schematic Explorer window, find the diagram you are working on
and right click to show the diagram’s attributes. Set the ‘Function’ to “ITER”.

Now drag and drop the symbol to create the off line instrument as usual. Enter
the TTT code and number.

Click ok to create the SCOINS.

Drag the control handle (yellow diamond) to connect it to valve.

You can see the instrument connection line crossing the symbol. To move the
connection point on the symbol, select the ‘connection point tool’ via the
Home tab. The instrument connection line can then be selected and the
connection point moved.
