Initial Idea

My initial idea was to tackle different topics that exist in the media nowdays by including them in
my piece, always inspired by Scher’s message and Fletcher’s collage-style.

Firstly, my initial thought was to draw a map of the world, and stick pieces of newspaper pages,
that represented each country. Although this was a solid idea, it wasn’t very practical to find
newspapers from each country and also my message wouldn’t have come across as strongly.

Improved Idea
Knowing the fact that the above idea is impractical, my thoughts have driven me to touch on the same topics that I
wanted to from before (the plethora of world problems) and also be able to convey this strong message to the viewer.

The new concept that I thought of, is that I will create a piece of art using collage, but also include some elements of
nature (most probably an ocean) to convey the message that even though there are different problems in each
country, everything is inter-connected through media (e.g. press) and that everyone is on the same boat, both literally
and metaphorically as well.

In my artwork, I will include a three-dimensional paper boat, which will ‘carry’ different leaders of countries, along
with some major world issues (e.g. immigration). Each element signifies something different, which plays a crucial
role in understanding the piece’s message.
 The Background
The background should reflect the negativity that is ruling the
world, as a result of politics and unresolved world problems.

The Ocean
The ocean is there to highlight that the boat will be floating on
‘bad press’, which entails that any press will, at the end,
benefit the leaders and events and will boost their popularity.

The Boat
The boat will be three-dimensional and will be in plain white. It will be the major element of the piece.

Its message is to convey the idea that every world problem is interconnected with each other, and that
there is always something to relate to with someone.
