(1) Re-check the staad model for portal type pier.

As per your analysis ,in static load

cases and under live load conditions, the bending moments in both circular columns
are either zero or negligible. This must not happen and there will be significant BMs
and SFs in both columns under these load conditions as evident from our in house
program as well as already approved similar designs. Please correct the model and
conduct thorough design checks (all checks including serviceability).

Checked & updated the design .

 (2)    Main steel provided in columns is marginally safe in ULS. The ratio of ultimate
moments is 0.87 as per design report. Please check this ratio with IS tables. Generally, it
is not advised to keep such high ratio when theorem-based calculations are done. The
ratio must be sufficiently safe by IS code method also.

Noted , we are providing adequate margin.

(3)    In drawing of pier cap, the bearing center are shown eccentric w.r.t. center of
columns but nowhere this dimension is shown. Please mark the distance of bearing
center line from column center line clearly in the plan of pier cap.

 Corrected in drawings.

(4)    Following VUPs have portal type substructure design but in dim. and steel drawings
showing single column pier (your submission on 04.05.2020) :-

  (i)                  293+084

(ii)                298+388

(iii)               306+650

Please correct the drawings of above structures and re-submit.

Structure’s at these chainages are partially constructed.
