WASTE

If you don't need it, don't buy it.Our country is drowning in its own garbage! Peru generates about
8 million tonnes of garbage every year, and we need urgent waste management solutions if we are
to meet the goal of a ‘Clean Peru’ by future. Negative effects of improper waste management not
only ends in a disgusting view but also affects the overall economy of our country. Though we all
are familiar with common methods of waste management like landfills, incineration, recycling,
biological processing or energy conservation; we find ourselves living in a world filled with waste.
So where is our waste management failing? Is it enough to just create new landfills? Are
conventional waste management techniques and incentives enough? It may sound incredible, but
Sweden has run out of trash and is actually asking other countries for their garbage so as it can
keep its recycling plants running. So what did Sweden do differently? The country has adopted a
recycling policy which funnels all the energy generated by burning waste into the national heating
network. This provides an efficient way to heat homes through the freezing Swedish winter.Waste
management is our responsibility for we benefit and suffer from it in radical ways. Education and
awareness across all communities, irrespective of their social, economic condition, must be ever-
present.Food is another item that we often just carelessly toss away without thinking twice about
it. Each year, a very large percentage of our purchased food is left uneaten. Instead of simply
throwing away food, we must make good use out of it. Even if we kept just a small percentage of
our uneaten food and donated it, millions of needy people would be fed. There are lot of items
that we use everyday and then get rid of the m by throwing them in the garbage. Unfortunately,
this results in pile of garbage. Yes, we are facing a crisis, but I firmly believe that through a global
partnership, we will be able to not only overcome it but also create new opportunities for growth
in green industries.

Grazia claims that to minimize the impacts of deforestation: We have to plant a tree per family
because they create the very air we breathe and filter air pollution. Trees also help to reduce
ozone levels in urban areas. Most importantly, trees sequester carbon, helping to remove
carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases from the air, which cools the earth. Finally Grazzia
emphasized that this great task is not simply the job of one person

I couldn't agree more with her statement since ending deforestation is our best chance to
conserve wildlife and defend the rights of forest communities. On top of that, it’s one of the
quickest and most cost effective ways to curb global warming.

Finally I would like to leave a message “The evolution of human mentality has put us all in vitro
now, behind th e glass wall of our own ingenuity.”
