 JRC  Series  SSAS  Setup  Guide  

PREFACE
The  SatC  SSAS  Alert  messages  MUST  be  sent  to  satc@stratumfive.net  and  must  
be  sent  via  a  recognised  Inmarsat  service  provider.  Please  configure  your  SatC  
terminal  to  transmit  the  distress  email  using  compatible  LES  stations,  as  listed  in  
the  examples  at  the  end  of  this  section.  Furthermore,  the  SSAS  message  MUST  
contain  the  words  StratumFive  SSAS  code  or  the  message  will  not  be  flagged  as  
an  alert  message.
 

Setup  procedure  for  JRC  JUE-­‐75/85/95  

NOTE!  
Password  setting  is  required  before  setup  Ship  Security  Alert  System.  Prepare  an  
arbitrary  figure  of  4-­‐digit.  
Prepare  a  4  digit  PIN  
 
Step  1.     Press  <ESC>  until  the  screen  clears.  
 
Step  2.     Press  <ALT>  +  <U>  to  obtain  the  Set  up  menu  box.  
 

Changing  and  setting  password    

 
Step  3.     The  password  change  procedure  is  necessary  in  the  initial  setup  or  
if  you  want  to  change  old  password.  Select  Password  by  moving  the  cursor  to  
Password  and  press  <Enter>  key.  The  Password  Change  dialog  box  is  displayed.  
 
Step  4.     The  default  pin  is  set  to  0000.  To  change  the  pin,  enter  the  default  
or  existing  pin  as  the  Old  password  and  enter  a  new  one.  
The  word  OK  is  displayed  at  the  bottom  of  the  Password  Change  box.  The  
Password  Change  procedure  is  complete.

Open  “Security  Alert  transmission”  menu  box  using  password    

Step  5.     Return  to  Setup  screen  by  pressing  <F10>  key,  select  Scheduled  
transmission  by  moving  cursor,  and  then  press  the  <Enter>  key.  The  Scheduled  
transmission  menu  box  is  displayed.  
 
Step  6.     Press  <Ctrl>  +  <  F10>  at  the  same  time.  The  Password  dialog  box  is  
displayed  in  the  centre  of  
Scheduled  transmission  menu  box.  
Enter  the  new  PIN,  which  is  set  at  Step  4,  and  then  press  the  <Enter>  key.  
If  the  PIN  you  entered  is  not  correct,  the  buzzer  is  sounded  and  the  characters  
(displayed  as  ****)  are  cleared  and  you  will  need  to  re-­‐enter  the  correct  PIN.  
If  you  want  to  cancel  this  procedure,  press  the  <ESC>  key.  
 
Step  7.     The  Security  Alert  transmission  menu  box  with  F1:SSAS  TEST  ON  
is  displayed.  
 
NOTE!  
Scheduled  transmission  menu  box  (Not  related  to  this  procedure)  
If  you  press  the  <Enter>  key  instead  of  pressing<Ctrl>+<F10>key  in  the  
procedure  of  step  6,  the  Scheduled  transmission  #-­‐-­‐  menu  box  is  displayed.  This  
menu  box  is  not  related  to  this  procedure,  so  return  to  previous  screen  by  
pressing  <F10>  key  and  carry  out  procedure  in  step  6  
 

Setting  of  Security  Alert  transmission  

Step  8.     To  setup  Security  Alert  transmission,  select  Security  Alert  
transmission  #1  and  pressing  <Enter>.  
 
NOTE!  
The  security  message  transmission  should  be  configured  in  numerical  order  
from  Security  Alert  transmission  #1.  
 

Setting  for  Requesting  Interval  

Step  9.     Press  the  down  arrow  key  to  choose  Requesting  Interval,  and  then  
press  <Enter>.  
Step  10.     Enter  the  time  interval  (1  –  23  hours)  in  the  Security  Alert  
transmission,  and  then  press  <Enter>.  
In  the  above  example,  1  hour  has  been  entered  as  interval  to  transmit  the  
Security  Alert  Requesting  Interval  :01  Hour  
NOTE!  
1.  The  minimum  setting  is  1  hour.  A  setting  in  minutes  is  not  compatible.  
2.  If  0  hour  is  entered  as  the  Request  Interval  the  terminal  will  transmit  the  
security  message  only  once.  
 

Setting  for  LES  ID  

Step  11.   Press  <Enter>,  and  enter  LES  ID,  and  then  press  <Enter>  
For  the  LES  ID  values,  please  see  the  examples  at  the  end  of  this  section.  
 

Setting  of  Network  type  

Step  12.     Press  <Enter>,  “Network  type”  menu  box  is  displayed  and  then  
select  “Email”  option  by  pressing  the  up/down  arrow  keys,  and  then  press  
<Enter>.

Setting  of  SSAS  message    

Step  13  
Press  <Enter>,  and  the  message-­‐editing  screen  is  opened.  Create  the  message  in  
the  screen,  and  press  <F9>  (Save  and  quit  key)  to  return  to  the  Security  Alert  
transmission  #1  screen.  
NOTE!  
NB!  
It  is  necessary  to  setup  a  supplementary  text  note  on  SSAS  messages.  This  is  used  
to  flag  the  message  as  an  SSAS  ALERT  message.  The  supplementary  text  note  
varies  with  the  terminal  model.  
Please  add  the  Terminal  ID  into  the  message  body  beneath  the  MMSI  number.  
For  a  JRC-­‐75,  the  Terminal  ID  is  S5001    
For  a  JRC-­‐85,  the  Terminal  ID  is  S5002    
For  a  JRC-­‐95,  the  Terminal  ID  is  S5002  
 
It  is  very  important  that  this  message  contains  the  words  “SSAS  ALERT”  or  it  will  
not  trigger  an  alert.  For  detailed  examples,  please  see  the  end  of  this  section.  
 
E.g.  for  a  JRC-­‐85,  enter  
SSAS:S5002  beneath  the  MMSI  number

Step  13  
Press  <Enter>,  select  ON  by  pressing  the  left/right  arrow  keys,  and  then  press  
<Enter>.  When  OFF  is  selected,  the  SSAS  message  is  NOT  sent  even  if  the  SSAS  
button  is  depressed.  
Step  14  
Setup  is  completed.  Press  the  function  key10  <F10>  to  finish  the  setup.  
Step  15  
Press  the  function  key  <F10>,  or  <ESC>  to  save  the  setup.  An  example  of  a  
correct  setup  of  Security
