(A central University established by an Act of Parliament)

Two Week Faculty Development Programme (FDP) in Online Mode for University
and College Teachers
on
“Application of Digital Tools and Technology in Teaching and Learning”

About the University:

The Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Amarkantak, Madhya Pradesh has been declared
as an excellent centre of tribal students of India. It has been established by an Act of the Parliament
of India and came into existence by the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Act, 2007 and
came into action in July 2008. This University has one regional campus at Imphal, Manipur. The

process in interdisciplinary studies and researches and to pay special attention to the improvement
of social, educational and economic conditions and welfare of the scheduled tribes within the
Union of India. The University is located at a beautiful hill station at Amarkantak, a well
frequented Hindu pilgrimage center of India due to its Maa Narmada’s origination or udgam.

Objectives of the FDP:

Since December 2019, when the first case of COVID- 19 (the illness caused by SARS CoV-2)
was detected in Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei province of China, the world ceased to remain
the same. The endemic caused by the virus has turned normal life upside down; the very existence
of humanity came under threat. A large part of Europe, the USA, Africa and Asia are still
grappling with containing the virus. India, with a population of more than 1.3 billion has done
fairly well in restricting its spread, adopting the tactics of social distancing through lock down,
but the strategy had its side effects too. It affected every aspect of human life including the

education system. The educational institutions across the country were shut down and it is not
certain when they will reopen. Universities face impact in terms of a slowdown in student
internships and placements. Student counselling operations are also affected. Structure of
schooling and learning includes teaching and assessment methodologies and due to closure, it will
be affected.
Again this is not the first endemic in the history of the country, nor shall it be the last. Therefore,
this is the proper time to find a permanent solution in case of such a situation.
Technology may play an important role in such situations. Digitalization of the education system
may be a method to resolve the existing problem. The proposed faculty development programme
is an attempt to inculcate capacity of applying digital tools and technology among the teachers.
