Tree Farming

Although Central Luzon’s forest cover remains to be among the highest in the country combining
589,945 hectares forest cover out of 942,387 hectares forestland, it still have its forest area severely
reduced in large part not only by illegal logging, kaingin, and deforestation, but also by modern logging
technologies and agricultural expansion. It is estimated that 150,000 hectares of forest are destroyed each
year.

Tree farming is the process of planting a large number of saplings and waiting for them to grow into trees.
These trees are then harvested for wood and more saplings, which can be used to grow another generation
of trees. Falcata, Acacia, and Narra trees are some examples of fast growing trees that can be harvested at
their maturity after a few years. Trees such as mahogany and ---- on the other hand can take longer, about
20 years, but produces a greater yield. Mindanao has started this agriculture and it is said that one hectare
of land, can hold about 500 trees (felcata tree) which could be sold in the local market for P2000 pesos
per tree after 5 years, and if the farmer will wait for 10 years, a tree costs as much as P12000.

This program aims to protect forests and water sources to build a sustainable agriculture. These trees
provide soil binding that reduces – if not eliminate – soil erosion and landslides during extreme rainfall
events. This would generate income, employment for the people, and contribute to the economy of the
nation via export of quality lumber or for the domestic businesses to use. Several benefits of conservation
agriculture includes maintenance of vegetative soil cover year-round, sustained nutrient supply through
nitrogen fixation and nutrient cycling, soil structure improvement and water retention, biodiversity
conservation, and more.
Rehabilitation and Upgrading of the PNR System

The Philippine National Railways (PNR) (Filipino: Pambansang Daambakal ng Pilipinas) is a state-
owned railway company in the Philippines, operating a single line of track on Luzon. As of 2016, it
operates one commuter rail service in Metro Manila and local services between Sipocot, Naga City and
Legazpi City in the Bicol Region. PNR began operations on November 24, 1892 as the Ferrocarril de
Manila-Dagupan, during the Spanish colonial period, and later becoming the Manila Railroad Company
(MRR) during the American colonial period. It became the Philippine National Railways on June 20,
1964 by virtue of Republic Act No. 4156. The PNR is an agency of the Department of Transportation.

PNR used to operate over 1,100 km (684 mi) of route from La Union to the Bicol Region.

However, neglect reduced PNR's service. Persistent problems with informal settlers in the 1990s
contributed further to PNR's decline. In 2006, Typhoons Milenyo and Reming caused severe damage to
the network, resulting in the suspension of the Manila-Bicol services. In 2007 the Philippine government
initiated a rehabilitation project aiming to remove informal settlers from the PNR right of way, revitalize
commuter services in Metro Manila, and restore the Manila-Bicol route as well as lost services in
Northern Luzon. In July 2009, PNR unveiled a new corporate identity and inaugurated new rolling stock.
Long-distance Bicol services resumed in June 2011, but were suspended again in October 2012, leaving
only local service between Naga and Sipocot.Local service between Naga and Legazpi resumed in
October 2015.

Improving and expanding the services of the PNR is an important government project especially now that
metro Manila is experiencing traffic crisis. By improving the capabilty of PNR, it is expected that
congestion and traffic will be reduced by encouraging commuters to take the train. this will also reduce
the burden of the mrt and lrt if some of the commuters will opt taking the pnr. moreover, this will reduce
the economic losses due to traffic as well as it will have a benefit for the public who are losing time in
traffic. The Phil. National Railways is one of the train services in the Philippines. It connects NCR with
southern luzon. Previously, it service a wider range of location including the bicol region and central
luzon. Because of budget cuts however, the service is now currently limited to manila and calamba in
laguna. It is currently being proposed that the old rail lines be opened. But due to.low budget and
maintainance and few trains, the service is impossible.
Establishment of a Regional Agricultural University

Central Luzon State University

-courses

-conduct research (incorporating technology to agriculuture)

to have a development is for the people to have education. Establishing a Regional Agriculutural
University is a big help in improving our agriculture and in incorporating technology in it. One example
of this Regional Agricultural University is the CLSU or the Central Luzon State University. The courses
that they are offering includes:

1. BS Environmental Science

2. BS Fisheries

3. Maste4 of Science in Agricultural Engineering

4. " in Agricultural Economics

etc.
