The QLTS is the Qualified Lawyers Transfer

Scheme, the fast-track route for international
lawyers, and barristers in England and
Wales, to qualify as English solicitors.
The scheme is administered by the Solicitors Regulation

Are you
eligible to
take the
QLTS?
Applicants who wish to take the

assessments must first obtain a QLTS
Certificate of Eligibility from the SRA.
The Certificate of Eligibility simply confirms that you

are entitled to practise law in your home jurisdiction
and have no criminal record, disciplinary actions or
other issues related to your background. There is no
internship or experience requirement to complete. You
only need to be a Qualified Lawyer in a Recognised
Jurisdiction, and satisfy the English language
requirement.
A fee of £200 or £400 (depending on whether you are

an International Lawyer or an EEA, intra-UK or Swiss
lawyer) is payable to The Law Society for processing
the application. The application form to apply for your
Certificate of Eligibility, including guidance notes, can
be downloaded from our website.
You do not need to have a Certificate of Eligibility to

begin your studies, and you can obtain your Certificate
while preparing to sit the assessments.

Following registration for the QLTS assessments, each

candidate will receive an examinee number, exact locations
of the testing centres and a detailed schedule of the
assessments.
Candidates with special needs should contact the

Admission to the Roll of Solicitors
The results of the assessments are made available a few

weeks after the date of the assessments. Once you have
passed the assessments and fulfilled any outstanding
requirements set by the SRA, you may apply for admission
to the Roll of Solicitors of England and Wales and get your
practising certificate.
If you do not intend to practise in England and Wales
