QM Basic Configuration

Quality Management maintained at Plant level

In a Company, plant to plant Quality standards, Rules and Regulations will vary due to different
environment, weather conditions and also Product, so Quality management is maintained at plant
level.

2. Master Data’s

1. Master Inspection Characteristics – What are the parameters need to check

2. Sampling Procedure –How much quantity need to check
3. Inspection Method –How to check (procedure to check)
3. Tasklist

Tasklist is a plan to perform an operation, this task list also used in Inspection plan, Routing,
Equipment Tasklist, etc.

Here we can link all our Master data which we have seen, like Inspection Characteristics,
Insp.methods, and Sampling procedure to make a plan for Material to perform Quality Inspection
4. Inspection lot

Inspection lot created automatically or manually

Inspection lot will generate based on our Inspection type which we activated on the Material
master

Inspection lots can be created automatically by events triggered in other components of the
logistics supply chain. For example:

Goods movements or stock postings in the Materials Management (MM) component (for

example, goods receipt, goods issue, or a stock transfer)
Creation of production orders or process orders in the Production Planning and Control (PP)
or Production Planning for Process Industries (PP-PI) components
Creation of deliveries in the Sales and Distribution (SD) component
Creation and release of maintenance orders in the Plant Maintenance (PM) component
Deadline monitoring of batch materials; for example, when the dates for recurring
inspections or shelf life expiration are reached (Batch Management (LO-BM) component)
Inspection lots can also be triggered by an external system, such as SAP’s Quality Inspection
Engine (CA-QIE).
5. Result Recording

In the Results Recording component (QM-IM-RR), you record and process results for inspection
characteristics. The inspection lot is the reference object in results recording.

The recorded inspection results document the quality of the inspected product, and provide the
basis for creating batch specifications and inspection certificates. You can use the recorded result
data to make evaluations for quality control purposes.
6. Usage Decision

Usage Decision is the process of taking decision on Inspection lot, Acceptation/Rejection of

Inspection lot is taken in UD, this is the Final Stage of Inspection, Once UD is taken we cannot
reverse it

7. Stock posting

If an inspection lot is stock-relevant, you can post the stock for the inspection lot manually while
you are in the process of making the usage decision. On the basis of your stock postings, the
system makes the corresponding postings in the Materials Management component.

Types of Stock Postings

You can post quantities of material from an inspection lot to the following destinations:

To unrestricted-use stock
To scrap
To sample usage
To blocked stock
To new material
To sample reserves
Return delivery
MASTER DATA
SAMPLING SCHEME

A collection of sampling plans . A sampling plan applies to the sample size based on a specific
inspection lot quantity and defines the criteria for determining whether and how a sample is
accepted or rejected. In the SAP system, the structure of the sampling plans complies with
international standards (for example ISO 2859 and ISO 3951). However, you can also add sampling
schemes for different sampling procedures.

Use:
You use a sampling scheme if you want to:

 Determine the sample size on the basis of the lot size, inspection severity, or combination
of inspection severity and AQL (actual quality level)
 Store how a decision is made to accept or reject a characteristic
 Determine the number of physical samples, based on the lot size, or the number of
containers in an inspection lot in sample management

MAX.NO.OF.NON

100 20 5 15

What Is an Inspection Lot Status?
The inspection lot status is maintained by the system and is changed whenever the processing
status of the inspection lot changes. With this status, the system keeps track of the activities that
have been carried out for the inspection lot. The status also indicates which activities can still be
carried out for the inspection lot.

Each time you want to carry out a specific function for an inspection lot (for example, recording
inspection results or making the usage decision), the system checks the inspection lot status to
determine whether the function can be carried out, based on the inspection lot status. If the
processing status permits it, the system allows you to carry out the function. If the processing
status does not allow the function, you cannot access the inspection lot. In this case, the system
displays the inspection lot status which lists all of the activities that have been and still need to be
carried out.

A one-to-one relationship does not exist between the inspection lot status and the activities that
need to be carried out. The activities that must be carried out for an inspection lot depend on the
inspection type settings for the material. For example, if you want to carry out an inspection
without an inspection plan, then a plan does not have to be assigned to the inspection lot. In this
case, no inspections results are recorded.

The following table lists the most important statuses for an inspection lot.
Inspection Lot Status

If documentation is required for the material, a change history is maintained for each status.

The inspection lot statuses listed above are predefined for the QM component in the standard
system. You cannot change these statuses. However, you can define additional user-specific
statuses and assign them to the inspection type using the status profile (see Customizing
application).
