BACK-UP POWER SUPPLY

To ensure a high availability of the signalling system the contractor has to provide in each decentral
interlocking a back-up power supply including an uninterruptible power supply system (UPS) and a diesel-
operated generator. The UPS shall only be used by the interlocking and - if applicable - the
telecommunications systems.

The back-up power supply needed for continued operation of the interlocking after a primary network
breakdown has to be dimensioned for a back-up time of eight hours. This mainly refers to the size of the
fuel tank.

The bidder has to determine the size of the generator on the basis of the respective load. If the main
network breaks down a battery facility has to take over the power supply of those system components that
are relevant for the uninterrupted operation of the signalling equipment till the diesel generator takes over.
The bidder has to consider the following power supply elements:

- power supply cabinets with rectifier, control panel, inverter with uninterruptible switch-over

- battery system (maintenance free and gas free)

cable installation connecting the sub-distribution and the particular system components to be supplied with power
