WELCOME TO MISS TAYLOR’S BIM CLASS!

INTRODUCTION
Welcome to the 2020–2021 school year. My name is Miss Taylor, and I will be your student’s Business
Information Management teacher this year. I am from Napoleonville, LA and I attended Louisiana State University in
Baton Rouge, LA] where I received a degree in Marketing.
This will be my second year teaching at Klein Oak High School and I’m so excited about the year ahead! I know
that your student will accomplish amazing things this year, and my job is to ensure that s/he has every tool s/he needs to
be successful. I am a firm believer that when teachers, students, families, and communities work together, our children
can do anything!

OUR BIG GOAL

My goal is for your student to become a true college-bound scholar. I want all of my students to grow
academically and develop the skills they need to be successful. By the end of the year, our students will be independent
thinkers, globally aware and informed citizens, powerful writers, and strong leaders who value education and literacy
and the opportunities that these provide. My goal is to help your student grow academically, intellectually, and socially.

FAMILY/TEACHER COMMUNICATION
Education doesn’t start and end in the classroom, but rather at home. I hope that, this year, we can work together
as allies to ensure that your student’s needs are met and that s/he feels confident, welcome, and successful in my
classroom. My number one priority is your student’s academic achievement, so please do not hesitate to contact me if
you ever have questions or concerns. It is my personal goal to keep parents and families up to date on their students’
progress. The following are ways for parents and families to stay informed and in touch with me:

Best method of contact is email: sidtreyelleshantay@gmail.com

You and I are a team fighting for the best possible education for your child; I look forward to entering this
partnership with you.

GRADING SCALE
The grading system for sixth graders is outlined by the district as follows:
 Classwork/homework, [10%];
 Tests and quizzes, [70%];
 Projects, [20%].

The majority of our class work will be done in our interactive notebooks, which will stay in the classroom most of
the time. It is essential that this work is kept up to date and that any other work turned in is done so with a student’s
FULL NAME and heading on it. I have already discussed with your student the policies for make-up work.
As you can see, the completion of homework and projects is essential for a passing grade. You are more than
welcome to come in and observe your student during class or to check in on their work outside class time – I just ask that
you schedule an appointment and sign in in the main office first.
EXPECTATIONS & ACCOUNTABILITY
As college-bound scholars, I expect my students to come to class every day ready to learn and do their best. I hold
my students to high standards. In order to create a positive and productive learning environment, my classroom
expectations are included in the course handbook, which all students reviewed and signed.
If students choose not to comply with the above expectations, they will be held accountable for their actions and
for disrupting our learning time. Possible consequences are also listed in the handbook.

VOLUNTEERS
I love having family help as volunteers! If you are interested in helping set up the classroom, prepare for activities
with take-home materials, tutor students, or anything else, please let me know, and we’ll coordinate schedules.

SUPPLIES
All students are expected to come prepared to class with everything necessary to learn, including, but not limited
to, supplies, homework, projects, and textbooks. At [school], every day, students must come in with:

Nothing more is required for my class, as I will provide them with materials to use in and out of class through
collections and generous donations. Supplies that are appreciated and worth extra credit include:

Other supplies that may be useful are:

Attached is a student handbook detailing course expectations. Please sign and return this no later than August 14,
2020. In order for me to best serve your student this year, please complete and return the parent contact form.
You may keep this letter for future reference.

I am looking forward to working with both you and your student this year!

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Best,
Sidtreyelle Taylor
