    • Normal – Resonance

    • Expected finding: Do not report to doctor b/c it is expected.


    • Pneumonia – Dullness due to consolidation
    ○ Due to secretions
    • Pleural effusion – Dullness
    ○ Due to fluid
    • Pneumothorax – Hyper-resonance
    ○ More air than normal
    • Emphysema – Hyper-resonance

    • Tactile fremitus is increased in pneumonia due to consolidation


    • Vibrations felt on the chest wall when patient talk = NORMAL
    • It is more in case of pneumonia = EXPECTED

    • Sound travels faster through solid items (e.g., wood, steel, etc.) than through air.
