• FamilyDoctor (2020) supports the use of a child making their own
decisions of the dental products they will use because promotes the child
making decisions for themselves.

• A randomized controlled trial using the BBaRTS intervention (Bedtime

Brush and Read Together to Sleep) is in the works. It was inspired by
previous study found that reading storybooks involving messages about
oral health and self-efficacy can created greater interest in improving
hygiene routine (Pine, et. al., 2016).

EDUC ATION & • Cavities or dental caries, is a hole within the tooth that grows larger
IMPLEMENTATION over time due to plaque eating away at tooth enamel. It can grow to even
bother the nerve ending of if the cavity has grown large enough, creating
pain and discomfort. Flossing, brushing with fluoride products, and limiting
sugary drinks and sweets can help prevent cavities (KidsHealth, n.d.)

• Use positive reinforcement without use of sugary treat, but rather a

healthy snack of reward system (FamilyDoctor, 2020).

• Relates to my situation as they state, “Your child likely will need help
brushing their teeth until they are 7 or 8 years old,” (FamilyDoctor, 2020).
DENTAL INSURANCE

o Dental plans vary by state on what needs to be covered

o Talk with company HR for description of dental plan

o Check for pediatric dental coverage
o Ask about co-payments and out-of-pocket costs

o Look into insurance provider network à Identify what dentists in the

area take our specific plans (Mychildrensteeth, n.d.)
MY DECISION

• Talk with HR about my dental insurance and my concerns about being out-of-network with my current dentist.
• I’ll educate & promote good dental hygiene and uphold Matteo’s responsibility of his dental routine through positive
reinforcement while making sure that it’s enjoyable and encouraging for him. This will include: letting him decide what
he wants to use, a timer, and a sticker system. Education will include YouTube videos from parent-approved channels
and reading children’s books together about teeth.
• Limit on sugary sweets and make sure he brushes his teeth afterwards.

o Further education about o May have to find new dentist

my insurance o Adjustment issues with new
o Promote healthy teeth rules
and gums
o Routine establishment &
independence
o Healthier diet
o More bonding time
LONG-TERM
OUTCOME

• Matteo will have healthy teeth and gums as

a result of an established dental routine.
This will contribute to reducing the risk of
any decay or disease as he grows older and
the costs associated with it. Additionally, I’ll
be prepared for the expected costs for
orthodontic treatment in the future if
Matteo will need it.
