Luckily for the City of Masbate, aside from Dr. Nilo Aguirre, who is our
LEAD trainedTHE GDM
physician on Diabetes, we had another awesome LEAD
TEAM
who has been thoroughly supportive and enthusiastic about our
program: Dra. Ma. Theresa Arollado. She is a pediatrician at the
Masbate City Health Office and is also a trained LEAD alumni and is
member of Diabetes Philippines, Masbate Chapter. She is also the
City Nutrition Action Officer, which makes her the best in town in
terms of Meal-planning and Nutrition for diabetics.

It has never been difficult for the GDM team educators to find a LEAD
Physician guide us and help us validate our work and effort making
the completion of our post-didactic requirements a walk in the park.

Dra Arollado was very active and eager to help us and she shared her
knowledge on diabetes education and also in conceptualizing the
program. She always have time for us in our one-on-one counselling
with our patients in the OPD of the City Health Office if she was
available in the OPD due to her barangay consultations. Here, she
shares her insight on meal-planning for diabetics and pregnant
women and shortly her input on how we can acquire logistics by
lobbying to our local politicians and other stakeholders.

GESTATIO
The Forum was a decision made by the group, entitled “Si Buntis at
NAL
Ang Diabetes”. The goal is to raise awareness among pregnant
DIABETES
mothers who are at their first and second trimester of pregnancy. It
will allow us to educate them further about GDM and help them
determine if they are potential at risk for Gestational Diabetes
through risk-assessment and counseling.

At first the group was composed of only (3) three members, namely;
Shane Medina as being the leader, followed by Jhon Klimmore A.
Lazaga, and Edward Tito A. Ancajas. Later during the planning phase,
other members of the ADNEP joined the Gestational Diabetes (GDM)
team.

This was the first day of setting a plan for the Lay Forum. We first took
notes and enumerated the needed materials, possible concerns that
may affect the program later on and also we discussed the budget for
this event. Here, we have accomplished the first draft of the Program
as well as financial proposal. We even laid out plans for the Games
and Prizes, Proponents and Guests as well as the division of labor.
