PROJECT PROPOSAL

I. TITLE

Community Service/Project: “Tanim Mo, Tanim Ko; Regalo sa Mundo”

II. BACKGROUND/RATIONALE

One of the contributing factors to climate change is the build-up of excess carbon dioxide
(CO2) in our atmosphere. Trees absorb CO2, removing and storing the carbon while releasing the
oxygen back into the air. In one year, an acre of mature trees absorbs the amount of CO2 produced
when driving a car 26,000 miles (Tree People, 2016). There are many benefits of trees in our lives:
they clean the air, provide oxygen, cool the streets and the community, conserves energy, save water,
help prevent water pollution, help prevent soil erosion, shield children from ultra-violet rays, provide
food, heal, reduce violence, and create economic opportunities.

Poverty reduction, resource conservation and protection, productivity enhancement, climate

change mitigation and adaption, are among the priority programs of the government. Executive Order
(EO) No. 26, s. 2011 states that there is a need to consolidate and harmonize all greening efforts such
as Upland Development Program, Luntiang Pilipinas and similar initiatives of the government, civil
society and private sector under a National Greening Program. Planting trees in the community can
hoard the need and to implement the priority projects of the government.

Trees bring diverse groups of people. Tree plantings provide opportunity for community
involvement and empowerment that improves the quality of life in our neighborhoods (Tree People,
2016). All cultures, ages, and genders have an important role to play at a tree planting event. That is
why a Community Service/Project: Tanim Mo, Tanim Ko; Regalo sa Mundo is initiated in order to unite
the community through planting trees during the birth month of the participants and to implement
effectively the government programs and school’s mission in providing a safe and motivating learning
environment and the active engagement of the family, community and other stakeholders for
developing life-long learners.

III. OBJECTIVES

This project aims to:

1. Promote awareness on the importance of trees in the community;
2. Plant at least 200 trees in the school and the community;
3. Provide a child-friendly, safe and motivating learning environment;
4. Have an active engagement of the family, community, and other stakeholders for
developing life-long learners; and
