Advantage & Disadvantage Questions

Ví dụ: What are the advantages and disadvantages of being famous?
o Well, clearly, being a celebrity or being famous has both bright and dark sides.
o I would say that being famous has its own pros and cons.
o Hmm, I suppose that being well-known can bring both benefits and
drawbacks.

o Stand out
o The most apparent/ obvious/ visible/ evident/ noticeable/ …

Bước 3: Sử dụng cụm từ nối mang tính tương phản để nêu ra nhược điểm mạch lạc
hơn. Các cụm từ có thể được sử dụng như:
o However / By contrast / On the contrary/ …

Advantage Disadvantage
1. clear benefit 1. drawback
2. obvious merit 2. negative aspect
3. positive feature 3. unfavorable feature
4. favorable aspect 4. shortcoming / limitation

1. What are the advantages and disadvantages of being famous?

Well, clearly, being a celebrity or being famous has both bright and dark
sides. There are a number of positive features but the one thing that really
stands out is that being famous generally means being richer since fame brings a lot
of fortune and opportunities. Those who are well-known can afford to buy luxurious
items, live in beautiful mansions, and travel to different countries. A second plus
point is that famous people have fans or followers who adore them and would do
literally everything for their idols. However, I’m sure most people would agree that
there are some negative aspects of being famous. I suppose the most
noticeable drawback is that they have no privacy. No matter where they go, there
are paparazzi and people watching, taking pictures and judging them. Moreover,
being a celebrity can attract stalkers who might be dangerous.

2. What are the advantages and disadvantages of travelling by air?

Hmm, it is clear that air travelling has its own pros and cons. There are a wide
range of advantages but the most obvious one is that travelling by planes is the
fastest way to get from one place to another, especially when involving long distances.
Also, flying can be considered as the safest way to travel as the chance of boarding a
flight that will be in a fatal accident is often rare. By contrast, it is undeniable that
air travel has some limitations. I think the most evident one is that not everyone
can afford to buy airplane tickets since they could be quite expensive especially
during special occasions. Moreover, it’s time-consuming and exhausting to go through
airport security, and passengers will have to wait for hours if the flight is delayed.

3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of shopping online?

It’s true that online shopping has both positive and negative features. There are
many benefits but the biggest perk would be that shopping online is more
convenient. People can shop from home at any time of the day. Moreover, they can
have access to a much wider variety of products with better prices. On the contrary,
it is no doubt that online shopping has some shortcomings. I guess the most
apparent one is that there is a larger risk of fraud when people shop online. People
should be careful when providing personal information and avoid transferring money
to unknown sources. Furthermore, it is hard to know exactly what we are getting from
those online websites. Since we cannot touch or determine what kind of texture, fabric
or quality of the products, they can end up becoming a waste of money if we couldn’t
return them.

4. What are the advantages and disadvantages of eating out in a restaurant?

Well, I suppose that eating in restaurants can bring both benefits and
drawbacks. There are a variety of merits but the most visible one is that people
can save time and energy since they don’t have to cook and clean up the kitchen after
eating anymore. Besides, a restaurant can be a great place to focus on
communication and get closer with their family and friends especially in special
occasions. However, eating out also comes with a myriad of problems and the
biggest one is that it can be less hygienic and unhealthy since diners do not know
exactly where the food comes from. Also, eating in restaurants can be quite pricey,
and it costs much more than buying ingredients and making meals at home.
