carry out during the training session if there
is no scavenging available.
AGS
1. Ensure that the AGS is correctly flowmeter
connected to the back of the system – AGS

otherwise anesthetic agent may be

emitted into the environment.
2. Check that the AGS flowmeter is AGS connection

1.3 BACTERIAL FILTER

Note: MAQUET recommends that a

bacterial/viral filter is always connected to
the expiratory connection on the patient
cassette. This will minimize the risk of
cross-contamination.
1

1. Attach new bacterial/viral filter to the

expiratory inlet.

1.4 MANUAL BREATHING BAG

1. Attach manual breathing bag and tubing
to the FLOW-i.
2. Hang the breathing bag on the hook (if
provided) – or use a manual breathing bag
holder. 1

holder by clicking it into place (bayonet
connection).

Note: The recommendation is to change

the water trap at least once a month or
when necessary.

SAMPLING LINE

1. Take a new gas sampling line and connect

it to the water trap (luer lock connection). 1
2. Connect the other end of the gas sampling

1.8 BACKUP GAS SUPPLY (OPTION)

BACKUP GAS SYSTEM C20 AND C30 MODELS

The C20 and C30 models can be equipped

with a backup gas system (1) that is
configured to deliver either O2/Air or O2/N2O
via backup cylinders (2) for each gas.

The backup gas system with gas hoses and 3

1
cable (3) are permanently attached to the
FLOW-i and shall only be removed by a
service technician trained and authorized
by MAQUET. 2

BACKUP GAS HOLDER - C20, C30 AND C40 MODELS

The C20 and C30 models can be equipped

with a backup gas holder (1) that delivers
N2O via a backup gas cylinder (2).
1
If desired, the C20 and C30 can be
equipped with a backup gas holder 3
delivering O2 from a single backup gas
cylinder, but in this case the backup gas
system cannot be connected to the 2
FLOW-i.

The C40 system can only be equipped with

a backup gas holder containing a single O2
backup gas cylinder.

The backup gas system with gas hoses and

cable (3) are permanently attached to the
FLOW-i and shall only be removed by a
service technician trained and authorized
by MAQUET.

1.9 RESUSCITATOR:
An independent means of ventilation, e.g. a
manual resuscitator, must be available
whenever the system is in use. Therefore,
check that there is one readily available and
working correctly.

1.10 SUCTION UNIT AND

AUXILIARY O2 FLOW (OPTION)

If the option of the suction unit and auxiliary

Note: Please refer to FLOW-i User´s Manual
O2 flow is installed on the FLOW-i, then the
V3.0 for more details regarding the auxiliary
following should be checked: O2 and suction module option.

Note: The suction unit cannot be operated

without a correctly placed bacterial/viral
filter (1).

SUCTION UNIT

The suction unit is tested during the

preparation stage of the System checkout
procedure.

1. Close the suction system by occluding

the end of the suction hose.

2. Turn on suction unit (1) and turn regulatory

valve (2) counter-clockwise to verify
negative pressure build-up. The current 3
pressure is displayed on the Vacuum 2
gauge (3).

Note: The central gas supply pressure

should be above 300 kPa (3.0 bar, 44 PSI)
when the Auxiliary O2 and suction module
1
are connected to the system.

AUXILIARY O2 FLOWMETER:

The flowmeter is tested during the preparation

stage of the System checkout procedure. 2
1
Turn on the O2 flow using the regulatory valve
(1) and turn counter-clockwise until the
maximum flow is reached - indicated when
the flowmeter ball (2) reaches the top of the 3
flowmeter tube (3).

1.11 STARTING UP THE SYSTEM:
