Letter from Your Director

Hello Delegates,
My name is Jillian March, I’m 17 years old, I’m from California, and I was recently
tasked with directing the International Press Corps for IVYMUN Episode 2! This
opportunity is wonderful for me because there truly is no committee I feel as passionately
about as IPC. My interest was first piqued when I received 2 awards at Berkeley Model
UN’s 68th session for participating in the NGO Forum. Ths committee was so niche and
far different from what I was used to and really made me understand that there was far
more to Model UN than GAs and JCCs. Since then, I have participated in several IPC
committees and even directed a few, so my experience is not scarce. I have also joined
school and extracurricular journalism programs that have refined my writing and
research abilities.
My hope for IPC is that every delegate walks away feeling like a delegate, rather
than just an observer. As I have found, it is sometimes difficult for IPC dels to feel like a
true part of the conference due to the fact that they are limited to merely writing about
what they see. What I hope to do to combat this is provide enough information about me
and assistance on deliverables to ensure that delegates feel, not isolated, but included.
International Press Corps is an incredibly unique and hyper-specialized committee
with lots of nuance, so I hope to give you all the information you will need to be successful
over the course of the weekend. If you have any questions about writing deliverables that
were not answered in the background guide, you can reach me by my business email:
jilliankatesmarch@gmail.com- please be sure to include your name and position (News
Corporation) at the bottom of the email. I will not be replying to anyone that I believe
could be a non-delegate. I wish you all the best of luck!
Sincerely,
Jillian March
Director for IPC

Position Paper Guidelines

Because of the nature of this committee, position papers will not be mandatory,
however, a demonstration of strong writing ability in the papers will greatly influence how
I perceive deliverable submissions. If you do wish to submit a paper, you will be eligible
to receive a Research Award. Please follow the guidelines below:
1. Times New Roman, Font Size 12, MLA Format
2. 3-Part Paper (Including the Works Cited Section)
a. Part I- About Your News Corporation: This section demonstrates your
knowledge on the corporation itself, their biases (left/right-leaning, gov’t
sponsored, etc.), and their voice (stylized writing is greatly important).
b. Part II- Sample Deliverable: This section demonstrates your ability to take
an issue and report on it in the manner that your assigned news corporation
would typically do so. Typically, I would recommend that delegates write
about a committee topic, but for the sake of keeping deliverable grading
uniform, I request that delegates write their sample deliverable on The
Global Effects of the American ‘Black Lives Matter’ Protests.
Deliverables should be between 3 and 10 paragraphs long and for the sake
of ease, they do not have to include direct quotes, polls, raw data, etc. They
should be in the style and voice of your assigned corporation.
c. Part III- Works Cited: This section should include all of your sources (just
the links are appropriate) from your research. If this section is not present,
the delegate is not elib=gible for a Research Award.
3. Submit in PDF format to jilliankatesmarch@gmail.com by June 21st at 10:30 AM
(EDT) for eligibility.
I wish you all the best of luck! Don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.
Remember, the Paper is only one part of what I will be assessing delegates on.

Committee Structure

IPC delegates will be moving from committee to committee producing at least one
deliverable per session (however, they are welcome to submit as many as they see fit). By
the end of the conference, delegates will have submitted and published a minimum of 6
deliverables that will be uploaded to an IVYMUN IPC site that will be made available to
all IVYMUN delegates.
IPC delegates do not propose motions, speak during moderated caucuses, or
write/collaborate on resolutions. Your main job during committee should be to observe,
take notes, and write your deliverable. Each session is 2-3 hours long, so I would
recommend taking notes for the first hour or two and saving the last hour of each session
for strictly writing. Delegates will not be penalized for choosing specific aspects of a
committee to report on, I will mainly be assessing the style and effectiveness of each
deliverable. Delegates will also not be rewarded/penalized for submitting additional
deliverables per session. I will be assessing them for content and style, publishing them
all the same.
As delegates finish their deliverables, they are due no later than 15 minutes after
the end of each committee session:
1. Session I- 12:15 PM (EDT) 4. Session IV- 10:15 AM (EDT)
2. Session II- 3:45 PM (EDT) 5. Session V- 2:45 PM (EDT)
3. Session III- 12:15 AM (EDT) 6. Session VI- 11:45 PM (EDT)
Send them as a PDF to jilliankatesmarch@gmail.com. I will be uploading them as-is to
the IPC site. Each deliverable should be between 3 and 10 paragraphs and include as many
testimonials, quotes, statements, charts, direct references to resolutions, etc. as possible.
The reader should feel as though this is a legitimate news report about the committee they
participated in. Stylized writing and voice should be the top priority, however. Don’t
hesitate to reach out over the course of committee if you come across any issues. Good
luck!

Deliverable Guidelines

As stated above, deliverables (the MUN term for the articles that each delegate will
produce) should mimic the style, voice, and biases for assigned news corporations. There
is no specific format that deliverables should follow. I would recommend reading 3-4
articles produced by the corporation you will be representing in order to get a feel for the
expected format and style. What you will then do with that is apply it to your deliverable
as if you were a reporter for that corporation sitting in on a real UN committee.
Several add-ons that make a deliverable/article stand out are interviews
(testimony), charts (polling data, resolution data, etc.), and unique formatting [however
that does not factor into assessments and grading and only serves to make the deliverable
more appealing to look at]. When resting polls, IPC dels are not permitted to interrupt
debate even in an unmod session. What you are permitted to do is send notes (private
messages) to individual delegates or send them links to polls that you have created.
During an unmod, if you wish to pull a delegate aside, private message them quietly or
even request to meet with them after the session. Do keep in mind, however, the
submission deadline for each deliverable.
I will be creating some teaching materials over the course of the conference that I
will send to delegates that identifies the good/bad/improvable aspects of the already
submitted deliverables that delegates can use to make their work better. Delegates do not
have to be fluent English speakers to write a good deliverable, but please note that I speak
English and Spanish, so major grammatical/formatting errors may make it difficult to
understand deliverables. Delegates will not be penalized for those errors, however. As
long as the deliverable is readable, you are eligible for awards. I wish you all the best of
luck! Have a great time participating in one of my favorite committees!
