Converting Sinners, Perfecting the Saints

WHAT DID JESUS TEACH: HIS DISCIPLE

In these series, we are looking at THE TEACHINGS of our LORD JESUS CHRIST. I pray that
you're paying keen attention to these lessons; it's through knowing and obeying the Commands
of Christ that we grow up spiritually and fully experience all the blessings of God in our lives.
Look at this admonition of Christ to us in Luke 6:46: And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do
not the things which I say?

Do you know what He said in the first place? Are you obeying His SAYINGS? Or you are
among those that vainly call Him Lord, Lord but are disobedient to Him.

This lesson is about what JESUS taught us concerning BEING HIS TRUE DISCIPLE. I believe
that few Christians have a clear concept of discipleship in their practice. Our churches are filled
with mere converts and spiritual babes, who never outgrow the babyhood stage of Christian
experience. Do you know of this concept of being a true disciple of Christ? Are you a true
disciple of Christ? Can Christ say of you that you're His disciple? You ought to have answers to
these questions now, or time will come when it will mean the very destiny of your eternal soul,
whether in hell or heaven! Concerning this Lord's teaching on being a disciple, we shall consider
the following thoughts:

A. WHO IS A DISCIPLE OF CHRIST?

B. THE COST OF BEING A DISCIPLE OF CHRIST
C. A DISCIPLE OF CHRIST MUST CONTINUE IN THE WORD OF GOD
D. A DISCIPLE OF CHRIST MUST WALK IN LOVE
E. A DISCIPLE OF CHRIST IS NOT ABOVE HIM, BUT MUST BE LIKE HIM
F. A DISCIPLE OF CHRIST MUST BEAR FRUIT UNTO GOD

A. WHO IS A DISCIPLE OF CHRIST?

You must know that JESUS, though He was The Son of God with a mandate to save humanity,
yet He carries the office of a TEACHER/MASTER. He went about teaching and preaching the
gospel of the Kingdom. He called individuals to forsake all and follow Him. This is what it
means to be a disciple, you become a devout STUDENT and FOLLOWER OF JESUS CHRIST.
You forsake your all and surrender to Him, sit at His feet, learn all His ways and order your life
after Him. As a disciple of Christ, you are called to follow Him, cleave to Him, learn all His
ways, obey and order your life after His teachings and become completely like Him in your
thoughts patterns, your words and actions; your whole conduct and lifestyle must be ordered
after Christ. He must be your LORD in all aspects of life.

His Disciple | jaisersamuelministries17@gmail.com |+256 706 498 736 |Facebook: Jaiser Samuel Ministries| Page 1
You must completely lose sight of yourself, your interests, dreams, plans and pursuits and only
seek to know Christ and find out His WILL AND PLAN for your life, and just do that in fear and
trembling.

The following should define your life as a true disciple of Christ:

• Whole hearted and prompt OBEDIENCE to Him without any questioning.

• Belief in Him, all He stands for and what He did and taught, without any doubt.
• Devotion to Him with all of your heart and mind.
• Commitment to Him, even to the point of death if need be.
• Trusting Him in all things.
• Unwavering CONSISTENCE in following Him, sticking, cleaving and staying with Him
even when the road is hard and rough.

When you got saved you didn't just join a church! You surrendered to the Lordship of Jesus
Christ. Now Jesus expects you to lose your life, forsake your old sinful ways and chose Him -
His ways, His Will, His Word, His plans and order your life after Him. You are called to follow
Jesus Christ even to the point of death. You must divorce yourself from all things that are not
pleasing or not in line with the will of Christ.

Are you a disciple of Jesus Christ in this manner? Are you studying to be His true follower? Is
there enough evidence to incriminate you as a follower of Christ?

B. THE COST OF BEING A DISCIPLE OF CHRIST

Luke 14:26-27,33; If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and
children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. And
whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. So likewise,
whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

Mark 8:34; And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto
them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

The following are the conditions that Christ set forth for anyone who will want to be His
disciple:

a) Deny yourself
Before we come to Christ, we are sinners, filled with sin, the devil and demons. We are filled
with ourselves - self-love, self-dependence, self-preservation. Basically a sinner is a self-centered
individual, always thinking highly of themselves as though the whole universe revolves around
them. We had our own selfish plans, dreams, ambitions, living our own lives in sin and
pleasures. Now it's sad, but most Christians, though born again, retain all the abominable self-
life, they think Christ is here to make them happy, bless their selfish ambitions and plans.
His Disciple | jaisersamuelministries17@gmail.com |+256 706 498 736 |Facebook: Jaiser Samuel Ministries| Page 2
No, Christ says to you: That you must deny yourself, forsake all of your vain plans and dreams.
You cannot be His disciple until you completely deny yourself, forsake your all and choose Him
alone to be your all. Have you denied yourself, forsaken all to embrace Christ as your Master?
He demands 100% total SURRENDER. He won't take 99%. All of you or none of you is Christ's
claim over your life.

b) Take up your cross

The Christian life is a death sentence! Preachers deceive sinners by telling them to come to
Christ and He will give them all kinds of good things. This is a wrong way and motive to
converting to Christ. You must know dear sinner that, coming to Christ is actually signing a
death sentence. You are from then onwards to carry your cross – a tool of your own execution.
You are to die to your old life, pleasures, plans, dreams, and ambitions must all be put to death. It
must cost you everything to be a true Christian. If your Christian experience ever since you got
born again has not cost you everything, then you are in delusion, you are not born again! Are you
carrying your cross daily? Notice it's a daily commitment to die to your desires, and crucify the
flesh and follow Christ. You cannot anymore do what you want, when you want as a Christian.
You have a Master, He is the One in charge, He must command your life. Are you out there?

c) Follow Christ
As a disciple of Christ, you are to follow Him daily. Notice that, you don't follow your own
desires and plans, or follow men of God, or your own denomination or church nor the world with
its vain philosophies and lifestyles. But you're to follow only Christ, keep at His back, waiting on
His commands, cleave to Him, stay with Him at all times. It's funny how Christians localise
Christ in a '30 minute quiet time' of devotion, then live the rest of the day without Him! Your
number one business is to follow Christ. Notice again that you must FOLLOW HIM, and not His
gifts or miracles or anointing. No you must follow Christ – Who He is and His commands to
you. Are you following Him?

d) Hate your natural relations

Christ puts the conditions so high, in that, in light of your love and devotion to Him, He
commands you to HATE your natural family. You cannot love your father, mother, siblings,
husband, wife, children, friends or anything else for that matter, more than you do Christ, and be
His disciple. He will not share you with even your men of God or church. He must have your
heart fully. Do you love Christ in this manner? Will you rather lose the affection of your family
but win Christ? As Christ's disciple, your love and affection to Him must be above and beyond
your love to others. He must have your complete LOYALTY exclusively.

e) Forsake all you have

Christ summarises the conditions of being His disciple by saying that: in order for you to be His
true disciple, you must forsake all you have. Most people are wealthy, have big names, high
status quo, beauty, gifts, talents, education, success, influence, power, achievement,

His Disciple | jaisersamuelministries17@gmail.com |+256 706 498 736 |Facebook: Jaiser Samuel Ministries| Page 3
self-righteousness, holiness and many other natural confidences. Such a person cannot be
accepted by Christ as a disciple until they forsake all these. I believe that 95% of the professing
believers in Christ of all denominations of the Christian world are not truly born again, they are
miserably deceived. These will be cast in hell by Christ on the last day. Are all the many
professing believers living this true life of a disciple in self-denial? Have they really forsaken
their all to follow Christ? I don't think so! He that has an ear let him hear what the Spirit says to
the church! Are you my dear Reader fulfilling the above conditions? Are you daily denying
yourself, forsaking your all, carrying your cross, hating your family and other things to love and
serve Christ alone wholeheartedly? Then you are His true disciple. The ball is always in your
court, it's you that must count the cost, meet the conditions and qualify yourself as a true disciple
of Christ. For you to truly gain Christ, it must cost you everything!

Has your Christian experience cost you your all? Do you really want Christ? Then He will and
must cost you everything else or you will never have any part of Him.

C. A DISCIPLE OF CHRIST MUST CONTINUE IN THE WORD OF GOD

John 8:31-32; Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word,
then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

A true mark of a disciple of Christ is their love and devotion to the WRITTEN WORD OF GOD
– THE BIBLE. I am amazed at how little this Book of books means to many professing
Christians. Few ever read this Book, cherish it, study it, leave alone obeying it. A true sign of
conversion from sin to the kingdom of God is the love and heart of reverence one has towards
God's WORD. JESUS said that only if we CONTINUE IN HIS WORD are we really His
disciples. Notice it's not a once in a while visiting in The Word, but daily continuing in The
Word. As a disciple of Christ we must treat the Bible in the following ways:

• Regard it as the very Word of God, reverence and honour it.

• Believe it to be God inspired, infallible and absolute truth.
• We must read it daily, study it, meditate in it and practice it.
• We must make it The Final Authority and Rule of all our life and practice.

How important is The Word of God to you? Have you ever read through your Bible cover to
cover? Do you dare to live in direct rebellion to The Holy Word of God, and then call yourself a
Christian?

Some so called Christians have the audacity to support or even practice unbiblical evil practices
like homosexuality and abortion! JESUS said, if you don't continue in His Word in obeying it,
you cannot be His disciple at all. Joshua 1:8 Says, This Book of books must be in our eyes,
mouths and actions all day long. I must read it, confess it and practice it daily. God will only
treat you exactly how you treat His Word.

The Bible is God speaking to me,
I am what it says I am,
I have what it says I have,
I can do what it says I can do,
I am a doer of the Word, never a hearer only,
I am a believer of The Word, never a doubter,
I exalt God's Word, the way He exalts It, and The Word exalts me too. Hallelujah!

D. A DISCIPLE OF CHRIST MUST WALK IN LOVE

John 13:34-35; A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved
you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have
love one to another.

Our Lord Jesus taught us that, the only mark of a true believer in Him is THE WALK OF LOVE.
The unsaved man is filled with self, hatred, murder, anger, bitterness and all kinds of demonic
practices. But when we come to Christ, The Holy Spirit changes our nature into a love nature.
We are love children of a love God. Now the God-kind of love is our very nature. But as
Disciples of Christ He commands us to demonstrate this love of God in our hearts through our
words and actions in our daily conduct. How can one tell that I am born again or a disciple of
Christ? It's not through us performing great miracles, praying in tongues, prophesying with great
accuracy. No, the only proof of my belief in Christ is LOVE. When people see me living out this
love of Christ, the unconditional love, such a love that treats well even its enemies. This is not
the natural human love which is fickle, based on feelings and can turn into hatred overnight that
basically treats people the way they treat you.

Jesus comes with a New Kind of Love – loving as He loved us. It's a higher, glorious love, it
treats people with kindness, goodness, tenderness, mercy and grace. It forgives, believes in
people, affirms and appreciates people. It's not self-centred and not arrogant. This is the love that
Christ commands us to love with.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8; Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth
not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily
provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things,
believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth: but whether
there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be
knowledge, it shall vanish away.

Are you walking in this kind of love? Do you love your spouse like this? Do you treat people
according to this Law of Christ? There is only one Law in the new creation, it's this law of love.
And there is only one sin in the New Testament, it is the failure to walk in the Love of God
toward people. Are you a lover? Can your husband /wife, maid, gate keeper, workmates,

His Disciple | jaisersamuelministries17@gmail.com |+256 706 498 736 |Facebook: Jaiser Samuel Ministries| Page 5
schoolmates and anyone for that matter say of you that you are a lover and thus a true disciple of
Christ? In other words are you treating people in your life nicely with kindness? This love is a
command from Christ and a decision of obedience on your part and it must be expressed
practically in our Words and Actions. Love filled Words and actions define us as true Disciples
of Christ.

E. A DISCIPLE OF CHRIST IS NOT ABOVE HIM, BUT MUST BE LIKE HIM

Luke 6:40; The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his
master.

I am amazed at how Christians can have such a blasphemous concept of Jesus Christ. The 'Jesus'
that most believers have in their mind is an 'idiotic idol' of their own vain imagination and He is
definitely not The True Person of That Most Blessed Son of God, who alone is highly exalted on
the right hand of the majesty on high, to Him alone be all the glory for all ages. Amen. Again to
most believers, Christ is like a little slave to them who only exists to satisfy and gratify their
selfish desires, they speak as though they run the show and The Blessed Lord must follow them,
come down to their level, and must give them all their carnal wishes! My God, I dread for the
most part of the Christian world that have no concept whatsoever of The Majesty and Holiness of
The Son of God. Christ is not your equal foolish Christian! You are not the one running the
show, you are not on the same level with the King of the universe. He is the HIGHLY
EXALTED KING OF GLORY and you are a mere miserable wretched sinner! If He is Lord,
then you are not above Him, not even on the same level. We must repent in ashes for our
stupidity and exalt The Son Of God to His rightful place. He is Lord over all, He is King over all.
We are all His slaves. We dare not come in His dreadful Presence in presumption with any
claim, no, we must only approach with fear and trembling and holy reverence.

Look at the following scriptures:

Malachi 1:6; A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is
mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O
priests, that despise my name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised thy name?

Revelation 15:4; Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy:
for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest.

As the disciple of Christ, you are going to come to the full knowledge of all His attributes. Most
Christians only focus on His good side. But do we know and appreciate His HOLINESS,
MAJESTY, TERROR, JUDGMENTS, GREATNESS AND GLORY? He is our God, our Lord,
our Judge and King. Do we know these of Him? Who are you to answer back to this Terrible
God? Or Disobey His commands or question His eternal Will?

His Disciple | jaisersamuelministries17@gmail.com |+256 706 498 736 |Facebook: Jaiser Samuel Ministries| Page 6
A disciple is not above His Master. This means that all that Christ went through we must
embrace. We must follow Him in all things including His sufferings and death. Then it says we
must be perfect by being like Him. A true disciple will seek to be like His Lord in all things. Our
Savior is a Meek and Lowly God, pure and holy, full of love and compassion. Therefore to be
like Christ, I must bear the following in life:

• HOLINESS - Living pure, clean lives without sin.

• LOVE - Loving God with all our hearts and loving people as He loved us.
• HUMILITY - Living a meek and lowly life before God, and being submissive to people
in our lives.

If these 3 attributes of Christ are not in our lives, expressed in our thoughts, attitudes, words and
actions, then we are not His true disciples and we have no part in Him. Are you walking in
HOLINESS? Are you walking in LOVE? Are you walking in HUMILITY before God?

F. A DISCIPLE OF CHRIST MUST BEAR FRUIT UNTO GOD

John 15:8; Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

As a disciple of Christ, He commands you to BEAR MUCH FRUIT unto His God. We bear this
fruit in the following ways:

a) The Character of Christ

The first fruit that God is looking for in you as a disciple of Christ is for you to bear the nature
and character of Christ in your daily living. The fruit of the Spirit must characterise our lives. We
must bear the following in our lives and conduct: HOLINESS, PURITY, CLEANLINESS,
GOODNESS, KINDNESS, PATIENCE, FORBEARANCE, OBEDIENCE, LOVE,
GENTLENESS, MEEKNESS, HUMILITY, FAITHFULNESS, SELF CONTROL, TRUTH,
MERCY, GRACE, PRUDENCE, DISCRETION, FEAR OF THE LORD, UPRIGHTNESS,
JOY, PEACE, etc.

Are you bearing these in your life? Most Christians focus on the gifts of The Spirit like
prophecy; their focus is on ministry and outside works. But Christ is looking first and foremost
for His character developed and manifested through your daily conduct.

b) Bearing fruit in your natural obligations

• As a disciple of Christ, He expects you to bear fruit, work to develop, improve and
perfect all He entrusts you with:
• As a married person, Christ is looking for the fruit of a good Christian marriage. Are you
committed to make your marriage work for the glory of Christ? Do you love your spouse
and serve them according to the directives of The Word of God?
• As a parent, Christ is looking for the fruit of godly children, disciplined in good manners,
raising them in the fear of The Lord, teaching them The Word of God, leading them to
His Disciple | jaisersamuelministries17@gmail.com |+256 706 498 736 |Facebook: Jaiser Samuel Ministries| Page 7
know and serve Christ. Are you there for your children? Do you discipline and instruct
them in the things of God? Or you are just interested in their education and success in this
life? What of their place in eternity? Will they be in hell or heaven?
• As children, Christ is looking for the fruit of obedience and submission to your parents
and guardians, in all things respecting and honouring them. If you are aged and your
parents are elderly, Christ commands you to take good care your vulnerable parents.
• In your homes Christ is looking for the fruit of respectfully treating your domestic
workers with love and kindness. Never use harsh words towards your maid, pay them
well, never allow your children to disrespect them. Do you care about their eternal souls,
by sharing the gospel with them and giving them time off to attend church?
• Christ expects you to be part of a local church as His disciple. In this also He is still
looking for fruitfulness in your life. Are you an active participant in the activities of your
local church? Are you a faithful Tither and Giver towards God's work? Are you
witnessing to the lost world? How is your prayer life? Do you love and support your
spiritual leaders? Do you walk in love and harmony with all your brothers and sisters of
different denominations and churches? If given a responsibility at your local church are
you faithful in execution of those duties?
• As a student are you faithful in your school activities? Do you respect and honour your
teachers? Do you walk in love with your fellow students? Do you ever pray for and share
the gospel with your schoolmates?
• As a Worker, Business person or a Minister in church, are you faithful in execution of all
your duties and job descriptions? Are you punctual, diligent, hardworking, doing over
and above what is expected of you? Are you aiming at excellence as an Ambassador of
Christ at your vocation? Do you respect and honour your bosses? Do you love and help
your low ranking workmates in your unit? Are you a faithful steward of all the gifts,
talents, graces and privileges that God has graciously bestowed on you? You must know
that He is a Business Man, and He is ever aiming at getting maximum returns in His
investment in your life. He is looking for fruit in your life. Carefully read through Our
Master's parable of the talents: Luke 19: 11-27.
• Are you bearing fruit as a member of your community and nation? Do you pray for and
respect your natural leaders? Do you participate in the political, social and economic
affairs of your nation?

Christ is looking for fruit in all our lives. We must give an account to Him one of these days, of
how we have lived our lives on this planet.

Are you a true disciple of Christ in the above described manner? What are you going to do about
it?

Dear Lord raise Bible Teachers and Pastors yea True Prophets and Apostles and Preachers that
will prepare your Church into true complete and perfect disciples. That the world may see the
rise of ordinary Christians filled with both the character and power of Christ to go out and
demonstrate your Kingdom in power, O that you baptise us once again with your Mighty Holy
Spirit, give us a hunger for your Holy Word and draw us into unceasing prayer. That we may
know Your Son and power of his resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings being made
conformable unto His death. Amen.
