Power Shift Transmission Testing And Adjusting

Power Shift Transmission

When testing must be done in a closed area, activate the brakes and use
blocks to prevent the machine from moving during the tests. Let only
approved personnel on the machine. Keep the other personnel off the
machine and in view of the operator.

NOTICE

Do not operate the machine with the universal joint removed. The
force of hydraulic pressure on the output shaft will cause the shaft to
move out of the torque divider. The result is a rapid loss of hydraulic
oil.

NOTE: All tests and adjustments must be made with the oil in the hydraulic control system at normal
temperature of operation. Be sure the linkage adjustments are correct before any tests are made.

Inlet pressure to the torque converter must not exceed 135 psi (930
kPa) with COLD OIL. Pressures greater than the maximum setting
will result in damage to the torque converter.

2. Before making linkage adjustments, see that nuts (3), (6) and (11) are tightened to the torque of 25 ± 3 lb.
ft. (35 ± 4 N·m)

3. Put direction cam (2) in the position shown (REVERSE). Make an adjustment to spool (5) for direction
selection so the other end of the spool is even with face (A).

4. Put speed cam (7) in the position shown (NEUTRAL). Make an adjustment to spool (9) for speed
selection so the face of the first land is even with face (B).

5. Loosen the clamp bolt in lever (15). Put a .030 in. (0.76 mm) thickness gauge between washer (13) and
lever (15).

On non-modular cab tractors, make the necessary adjustment to lever (15) so dimension (C) is 1.67 in. (42.4
mm).

6. Disconnect rod (14) from levers (12) and (16). Put lever (16) in the FORWARD (F) detent.

7. Disconnect rod (17) from levers (15) and (18). Put lever (18) in the NEUTRAL (N) detent of selection
cam (7).

8. Put transmission selection lever (12) in the center of the NEUTRAL opening of shift guide (19) as shown.

9. Make an adjustment to the length of rod (17) so it can be installed between levers (15) and (18).

10. Connect rod (17) to levers (15) and (18).

11. Put transmission selection lever (12) in front of the FORWARD slot of NEUTRAL opening as shown.

12. Make an adjustment to the length of rod (14) so it can be installed between levers (12) and (16).

13. Connect rod (14) to levers (12) and (16).
