Remove Transmission And Transfer Gears (Power Shift


Without Cab)

1. Fasten a hoist to seat assembly (1). Remove the seat assembly. Weight of the seat assembly is 60
lb. (27 kg). Remove two floor plates (2) from the machine.

2. Remove two covers (3) for the hydraulic controls.

3. Remove cover (4) for the batteries of the machine.

Do not smoke when a check is made of electrolyte level. Batteries give


off flamable fumes. Do not permit electrolyte solution to make contact
with skin or eyes. Electrolyte solution is an acid. Fasten the ground
cable last and remove first to prevent sparks near the battery, which
can cause battery vapors to burn fast with much force (explode).

4. Remove battery cables (5) and (7) from the terminals of the batteries. Remove bracket (6) that
holds the batteries to the fender of the machine.

5. Fasten a hoist to the batteries as shown. Remove batteries (8) from the fender of the machine. The
weight of the batteries is 160 lb. (73 kg).

6. Disconnect rods (9) from the transmission control to the transmission. Remove three bolts that hold
valve (10) to the seat frame assembly.

7. Remove bolts (11) that hold the seat frame to the bearm assembly. Remove the bolts that hold the
seat frame to the left fender of the machine.

8. Fasten a hoist to seat frame assembly (12). Remove the seat frame assembly. Weight of the seat
frame assembly is 115 lb. (52 kg).

9. Remove two rods (13) to the steering clutch control valve.

10. Remove the universal joint. See REMOVE UNIVERSAL JOINT.

11. Disconnect oil line (14) at the transmission. Disconnect oil lines (15) and (17) at the block on the
rear of the transmission. Disconnect oil line (18) at the bevel gear case.

12. Remove oil line (19) from the manifold at the transmission. Disconnect vent tube (16) from the
torque divider case. Remove the oil supply line from the bottom of the transmission.

13. Install four 5/8" - 11 NC forged eyebolts or tooling (A) on the transmission and transfer gears.
Fasten a hoist. Remove nuts (21) that hold the transmission and transfer gears to the bevel gear case.
Remove the transmission and transfer gears. The weight is 1150 lb. (522 kg).

1. Install four 5/8" - 11 NC forged eyebolts or tooling (A) on the transmission and transfer gears.
Fasten a hoist. Put transmission and transfer gears (1) in position on the bevel gear case. Install the
washers and nuts that hold the transmission and transfer gears to the bevel gear case. Remove the
hoist.

2. Install oil line (2) on the transmission. Install oil lines (3) and (5) on the rear of the transmission.
Install oil line (7) to the bevel gear case.

3. Install oil line (6) to the transmission. Install vent tube (4) to the case of the torque divider. Install
the oil supply line to the bottom of the transmission.

4. Install the universal joint. See INSTALL UNIVERSAL JOINT.

5. Fasten a hoist to the seat frame assembly as shown. Fasten seat frame (8) to the beam assembly and
to the left fender of the machine. Connect the rods for the transmission controls to the transmission.

6. Install rods (9) for the steering clutch control valve. Install the pins that hold them.

7. Put support (10) for the hydraulic control panel in position. Install the bolts that hold it to the
machine.

8. Put cover (11) in position above the hydraulic controls. Install the bolts that hold it to the machine.
Install the front cover for the hydraulic controls.

9. Fasten a hoist to the batteries as shown. Put batteries (12) in position on the fender of the machine.
Install the bracket that holds the batteries to the fender of the machine. Install the cables for the
batteries. Install the cover for the batteries.

10. Fasten a hoist to seat assembly (13). Put the seat assembly in position on the seat frame assembly.

11. Install two floor plates (14).

1. Drain the oil from the bevel gear case.

2. Disconnect control linkage (1).

3. Disconnect all hoses connected to valve (2).

4. Disconnect hose (3).

5. Fasten a hoist as shown. Remove braces (4), the roller and the bulldozer control linkage as a unit.
The weight of the unit is 85 lb. (39 kg).

6. Remove steering clutch control rods (5).

7. Disconnect transmission control rods (8) and (9) at the transmission.

8. Remove bracket (6).

9. Remove filler tube (7).

10. Remove bolts (10) that hold valve (11) in position.

11. Disconnect two brake control rods (12).

12. Remove fender brace (13).

13. Disconnect hoses (14), (15) and (19).

14. Remove hoses (16) and (18).

15. Remove two clips (17).

16. Fasten tooling (A) to the top of the transmission as shown. Fasten a hoist to tooling (A).

17. Remove nuts (20) and the transmission and transfer gears. The weight of the transmission and
transfer gears is 1150 lb. (522 kg).

18. Remove the O-ring seal from the transfer case.

Install Transmission And Transfer Gears (Power Shift With


Cab)

1. Fasten a hoist and tool (A) to the transmission and transfer gears. Install the O-ring seal in the
groove on the transfer gear case.

2. Put the transmission and transfer gears in position in the bevel gear ase. Make sure the pinion gear
engages correctly with the bevel gear as the transmission and transfer gears are put in position. Install
the bolts that hold the transfer gears to the bevel gear case.

3. Connect hoses (1), (2) and (7) to the transmission.

4. Put hose (4) in position and install clips (5) to hold it.

5. Install hoses (3) and (6).

6. Install fender brace (9), the shim and the bolts that hold them in position.

7. Connect two brake rods (8).

8. Put valve (10) in position and install the bolts that hold it.

9. Install the gasket and filler tube (11).

10. Connect transmission control rods (12) and (13).

11. Install clamp (14).

12. Put steering clutch control rods (16) in position and install the pins and cotter keys that hold them.

13. Fasten a hoist to brace (15) and install them as a unit.

14. Connect hose (4) to the filler tube.

START BY:

a) remove transmission and transfer gears

1. Put the transmission on tool (A).

2. Remove the control lever from the case.

3. Remove bolts (3) and cover (4) from the transmission.

4. Remove three bolts (1) and manifold (2) from the transmission.

5. Remove tube (7) from the transmission.

6. Remove bolts (5) and pressure control valve (6) from the transmission.

7. Remove bolts (8) and selector valve assembly (9) from the transmission.

NOTE: See DISASSEMBLE TRANSMISSION HYDRAULIC CONTROL VALVES to disassemble


the pressure and selector control valves.

8. Remove two tubes (10) and O-ring seals from the transmission.

9. Remove sleeves (12) and O-ring seals from the transmission.

10. Remove bolts (11) that hold the transmission case to the input shaft bearing cage.

11. Remove bolts (14) that hold transmission case (13) to the transfer gear case.

12. Install two 1/2"-13 NC forged eyebolts (15) on tooling (H) in the top of the transmission case.

13. Fasten a hoist to the transmission case and remove it. The weight of the transmission case is 140
lb. (63 kg).

14. Remove spring (17). Remove nuts (16) and the bolts that hold the levers on the shaft.

15. Remove shaft (18) from the transmission case and levers (19) from the shaft.

16. Remove lip type seal (20) from the transmission case. Use tooling (D) and remove bearings (21)
and the plug from the transmission case.

17. Remove spring (23), cam (24), shaft (22) and detent assembly (25) from transmission case.

18. Remove lip type seals (26) and bearings from the transmission case.

19. Remove the O-ring seal from bearing cage (28). Bend the locks down. Remove bolts (27) and
locks (29) that hold bearing cage (28) for the input shaft to the No. 1 carrier.

20. Install two 3/8"-16 NC forged eyebolts or tooling (J) in the bearing cage. Fasten a hoist to the
bearing cage. Remove the bearing cage and the input shaft as a unit. The weight of the unit is 60 lb.
(27 kg).

21. Remove bolt (30). Remove washer (31) and flange (32) from the input shaft.

22. Use tool (B) and remove lip type seal (33) from the bearing cage.

23. Remove ring (34) and spacer (35) from the input shaft.

24. Remove the bearing cage from the input shaft.

25. Remove retaining ring (36) that holds bearing (37) in the bearing cage.

26. Use tooling (D) and remove bearing (37) from the bearing cage. Remove the bearing from the
same side that the retaining ring was removed.

27. Remove seal rings (38) from the bearing cage.

28. Remove retaining ring (39) that holds inner bearing race (40) and two gears (41) on the input
shaft.

29. Use tooling (C) and remove two gears (41) and inner bearing race (40) from the input shaft.

30. Use a soft faced hammer and remove the bearing cage from the input shaft.

31. Remove retaining ring (42) that holds bearing (43) in the bearing cage.

32. Remove bearing (43) from the bearing cage.

NOTE: Put identification on each of the clutch housings for correct installation and alignment at
assembly. If the clutch plates and disc assemblies are to be used again, keep these parts together and
do not mix them.

33. Remove bolts (44) that hold the clutch housings together.

34. Install tooling (E) to keep No. 1 piston (45) in the No. 1 clutch housing.

35. Install two 1/2" - 13 NC forged eyebolts or tooling (H) in the No. 1 clutch housing. Fasten a hoist
and remove the No. 1 clutch housing and piston as a unit. The weight is 55 lb. (25 kg).

36. Turn the No. 1 clutch housing over. Remove tooling (E). Remove No. 1 piston (45). Remove the
seal rings from the No. 1 piston and No. 1 clutch housing.

37. Remove five pins (46) and ten spring (47).

38. Install two 3/8" - 16 NC forged eyebolts or tooling (J) in the No. 1 carrier. Fasten a hoist and
remove No. 1 carrier (48). The weight is 70 lb. (32 kg).

NOTICE

Be extra careful when shafts (50) are removed. Balls (49) can fall from
the shafts. Take care not to loose balls (49).

39. Remove shafts (50), gears (51) and washers (52) from the No. 1 carrier. There is a washer on each
side of the gears. Remove the bearings from the gears.

40. Bend the locks down. Remove the bolts, locks and plates (54) that hold gear (53) in place.
Remove gear (53).

NOTICE

Be extra careful when shafts (56) are removed. Balls (55) can fall from
the shaft. Take care not to loose balls (55).

41. Put the No. 1 carrier in position on its side. Remove shafts (56) and tubes (57) from the No. 1
carrier.

42. Remove gears (60) and washers (59).

43. Remove bearings (58) from gears (60).

44. Use tooling (D) and remove race and roller assembly (61) from the No. 1 carrier.

45. Remove ring gear (62) from clutch discs (63), three clutch plates (65) and plate (64).

46. Install two 1/2" - 13 NC forged eyebolts or tooling (H) in the No. 2 clutch housing. Fasten a hoist
and remove the No. 2 clutch. The weight is 75 lb. (34 kg).

47. Remove ten springs (66).

48. Remove ring gear (67), three clutch discs (68) and two clutch plates (69) from the No. 2 clutch
housing. Remove the No. 2 piston from the No. 2 clutch housing. Remove the seal rings from the No.
2 clutch housing and No. 2 piston.

49. Bend the locks down. Remove bolts (70), the locks and plates that hold the No. 3 clutch housing
in position.

50. Install two 1/2" - 13 NC forged eyebolts or tooling (H) in the No. 3 clutch housing. Fasten a hoist
and remove the No. 3 clutch. The weight of the No. 3 clutch is 80 lb. (36 kg).

51. Remove five pins (71) and ten springs (72) from the No. 4 and No. 5 clutch housing.

52. Remove ring gear (73), two clutch discs (74) and clutch plate (75) from the No. 3 clutch housing.
Remove the No. 3 piston from the No. 3 clutch housing. Remove the seal rings from the No. 3 clutch
housing and No. 3 piston.

53. Install tooling (E) to keep the No. 4 and No. 5 pistons in the No. 4 and No. 5 clutch housing.

54. Install two 1/2" - 13 NC forged eyebolts or tooling (H) in the No. 4 and No. 5 clutch housing.
Fasten a hoist and remove the No. 4 and No. 5 clutch housing, No. 4 clutch and pistons as a unit. The
weight is 100 lb. (45 kg).

Typical Example

55. Remove ring gear (76), clutch discs (77) and clutch plate (78) from the No. 4 and No. 5 clutch
housing. Remove tooling (E). Remove No. 4 and No. 5 pistons (79) from the No. 4 and No. 5 clutch
housing. Remove the seal rings from the No. 4 and No. 5 pistons and the No. 4 and No. 5 clutch
housing.

56. Remove ten springs (80), two clutch discs (81), ring gear (83) and clutch plate (82) from the
transfer gear case.

57. Bend the locks down. Remove six bolts (84) and the locks that hold No. 2 carrier (85) to the
transfer gear case.

58. Install two 3/8" - 16 NC forged eyebolts or tooling (J) in the No. 2 carrier. Fasten a hoist and
remove the No. 2 carrier. The weight is 50 lb. (23 kg). Remove the plate assembly from the transfer
gear case.

60. Put the No. 2 carrier on its side. Pull shafts (89) part of the way out and remove gear (93) and
washers (92). Remove bearings (90) from gear (93).

NOTE: There is a washer (92) on each side of gear (93).

61. Remove shafts (89), gear (91) and the washers. Remove the bearings from gear (91).

NOTE: There is a washer on each side of gear (91).

NOTICE

Use caution to prevent loss of balls (88) when shafts (89) are removed.

62. Remove shafts (86), gears (87) and the washers. Remove the bearings from the gear.

63. Remove the transfer gear case from tool (A) and put it on the floor as shown.

64. Remove bearing cage (94), shims, retaining ring (96) and output shaft (95) from the transfer gear
case.

65. Remove retaining ring (98) and race and roller assembly (99) from bearing cage (94).

66. Remove bearing cup (97) from bearing cage (94).

67. Remove the retaining ring and bearing cage (103). Remove bearing (101).

NOTICE

Use caution to prevent loss of ball (100) when bearing cage (103) is
removed.

68. Remove piston ring type seals (102).

69. Bend the locks down. Remove bolts (104) and locks that hold case assembly (105) to the transfer
gear case.

70. Install three 3/8" - 16 NC forcing screws in case assembly (105). Tighten the forcing screws
evenly until the case assembly is free from the transfer gear case.

71. Install three 3/8" - 16 NC forged eyebolts or tooling (J) in the case assembly. Remove case
assembly (105) from the transfer gear case. Weight of the case assembly is 80 lb. (36 kg). Remove
gear (106) from the transfer gear case.

72. Remove bolt (107) and the washer from the pinion.

73. Remove race and roller assembly (108), gear (109) and the case from the pinion with a press.

74. Remove race and roller assembly (110) from the pinion with tooling (F).

75. Remove bearing cones (111) from gear (106) with tooling (G).

76. Remove the plug and dowel (114) from the transfer gear case with a 10-32 screw (115).

77. Remove bearing cup (112) and race (113) from the transfer gear case.

78. Remove the plug and dowel (117) from the case with a 1/4" - 20 NC bolt (118) 2 1/2 in. long.

79. Remove race (116) from the case.

NOTE: Make sure all the parts of the transmission are clean. Put clean oil on the parts before
assembly. Inspect all parts for damage and make replacements if needed.

1. Lower the temperature of bearing cup (1) and race (2) and install them in the transfer gear case with
tooling (A). Make sure the hole in race (2) is in alignment with the hole in the transfer gear case.

2. Install the dowel that holds the bearing in position in the transfer gear case. Install the plug over the
dowel.

3. Heat bearing cones (3) to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C). Install bearing cones (3) on
gear (4).

4. Install gear (4) in the transfer gear case.

5. Lower the temperature of the race and install the race in the case with tooling (A) as shown. Make
sure the hole in the race is in alignment with the hole in the case.

6. Install the dowel that holds the race in position in the case. Install the plug over the dowel.

7. Heat race and roller assembly (5) to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C). Install race and
roller assembly (5) on the pinion.

8. Put case (6) in position over the pinion as shown.

9. Install gear (8). Heat race and roller assembly (7) to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C).
Install race and roller assembly (7) on the pinion. Install the washer and bolt on the end of the pinion.
Tighten the bolt to a torque of 80 ± 5 lb.ft. (110 ± 7 N·m).

10. Lower the temperature of the bearing cup and install it in bearing cage (9) with tooling (A).

11. Lower the temperature of the race and roller assembly and install the race and roller assembly in
bearing cage (9) with tooling (B). Install the retaining ring that holds the race and roller assembly in
place.

12. Install three 3/8"-16 NC forged eyebolts or tooling (F) in case assembly (10) and fasten a hoist.
Put case assembly (10) in position on the transfer gear case.

13. Install locks (12) and bolt (11) that hold the case assembly to the transfer gear case. Bend the
locks up.

14. Install original shims and bearing cage (9) on the case assembly. Tighten the bolts to a torque of
35 ± 3 lb.ft. (45 ± 4 N·m).

15. Turn the transfer gear case over.

16. Install tool (E) as shown. Make sure the indicator arm is in contact with the gear in the transfer
gear case. Move the gear up and down and check the end play. The end play must be .0046 ± .0026 in.
(0.12 ± 0.07 mm).

17. Remove bearing cage (9) and the shims from the transfer gear case.

18. Lower the temperature of the bearing and install it in bearing cage (13) with tooling (A).

19. Install piston ring type seals (15) on the bearing cage. Put clean oil on the seals.

20. Install the bearing cage in the transfer gear case as shown. Make sure the groove in the bearing is
in alignment with ball (16).

21. Install retaining ring (14).

22. Install plate assembly (17) as shown.

23. Put output shaft (18) in position and install retaining ring (19) that holds the output shaft in place.

24. Install the shims and bearing cage (9). Install the bolts and tighten to a torque of 35 ± 3 lb.ft. (45 ±
4 N·m).

25. Put the transfer gear case on tool (C).

26. Put the No. 2 carrier on its side.

27. Install bearings (24) in gears (25), (21) and (27). Put clean oil on the bearings.

28. Put shafts (20) in position in the carrier.

NOTICE

Make sure the balls (22) are in the shafts.

29. Put gears (21) and washers (26), one washer on each side of gears, in the carrier and install shafts
(20) through the gears into the carrier.

30. Put shafts (23) in position in the carrier.

31. Install two 3/8"-16 NC forged eyebolts or tooling (F) in the No. 2 carrier. Fasten a hoist and put
No. 2 carrier in position on the output shaft.

32. Install the locks and bolts that hold the No. 2 carrier to the transfer gear case. Bend the locks up.

33. Install the seal ring on No. 5 piston (28) and No. 4 and No. 5 clutch housing (29). Put clean oil on
the seal rings. Install No. 5 piston (28) in the No. 4 and No. 5 clutch housing.

Typical Example

34. Install tooling (D) so the piston will not fall out. Turn the No. 4 and No. 5 clutch housing over.

35. Install gear (34). Install ten springs (31).

NOTE: A clutch disc has friction material on both sides. A clutch plate is a smooth plate that does not
have friction material on either side. Put clean oil on all clutch discs and clutch plate before assembly.

36. Install two clutch discs (33) and clutch plate (35). Start and end with a clutch disc.

37. Install two 1/2"-13 NC forged eyebolts or tooling (G) in the No. 4 and No. 5 clutch housing.
Fasten a hoist and put the No. 4 and No. 5 clutch housing in position. Remove tooling (D).

38. Install the seal ring on No. 4 piston (30) and the No. 4 and No. 5 clutch housing. Put clean oil on
the seal rings.

39. Install No. 4 piston (30) in the No. 4 and No. 5 clutch housing. Install the ring gear. Install two
clutch discs (32) and the clutch plate. Start and end with a clutch disc.

40. Install the seal rings on No. 3 piston (39) and No. 3 clutch housing (40). Put clean oil on the seal
rings. Install No. 3 piston (39) in the No. 3 clutch housing.

41. Install two clutch discs (37) and clutch plate (36). Start and stop with a clutch disc. Install ring
gear (38).

42. Install five pins (42) and ten springs (41).

43. Install two 1/2"-13 NC forged eyebolts or tooling (G) in the No. 3 clutch housing. Fasten a hoist
and put No. 3 clutch in position on the springs and pins. Install the plates, locks and bolts that hold the
No. 3 clutch housing in position. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 85 ± 5 lb.ft. (115 ± 7 N·m).

44. Install the seal rings on piston (47) and No. 2 clutch housing (46). Put clean oil on the seal rings.

45. Install piston (47) in the No. 2 clutch housing.

46. Install three clutch discs (44) and two clutch plates (45) in the No. 2 clutch housing. Start and stop
with a clutch disc. Install ring gear (43).

47. Install ten springs (48).

48. Install two 1/2"-13 NC forged eyebolts or tooling (G) in the No. 2 clutch housing. Fasten a hoist
and put the No. 2 clutch in position on the springs.

49. Put plate (49) in position on the No. 2 clutch housing.

50. Lower the temperature of race and roller assembly (50) for the No. 1 carrier. Use tooling (B) and
install race and roller assembly (50) in the No. 1 carrier.

Make sure balls (51) are in shafts (52) when the shafts are installed.

51. Install bearings (56) in gears (55). Install tubes (53) in shafts (52). Put shafts (52) in position in
No. 1 carrier (54). Install balls (51) in shafts (52). Put gears (55) and washers (57), one on each side of
the gears, in position in No. 1 carrier (54). Install the shaft through the gears and into the No. 1
carrier.

52. Put gear (58) in the No. 1 carrier. Install plates (61), locks (60) and bolts (59) in the No. 1 carrier.

Make sure balls (62) are in shaft (63) when the shafts are installed.

53. Install balls (62) in shafts (63). Install the bearings in gears (64). Put a washer (65) on each side of
gears (64). Put the gears in position in No. 1 carrier and install shafts (63) as shown.

54. Install four clutch discs (68), three clutch plates (70). Start and stop with a clutch disc. Install ring
gear (69).

55. Install two 3/8" - 16 NC forged eyebolts (66) and (67) or tooling (F) in No. 1 carrier (54). Fasten a
hoist and install No. 1 carrier (54).

56. Install the seal rings on No. 1 piston (71) and No. 1 clutch housing (72). Put clean oil on the seal
rings. Install No. 1 piston (71) in No. 1 clutch housing (72).

57. Install five pins (73) and ten springs (74).

58. Use tool (D) to hold the No. 1 piston in the No. 1 clutch housing.

59. Install two 1/2" - 13 NC forged eyebolt or tooling (G) in the No. 1 clutch housing. Fasten a hoist
and install the No. 1 clutch housing.

NOTE: Two of the bolts that hold the clutch housing together are shorter in length. Location for the
bolts is at the openings for the manifold that is on the outside of the transmission.

60. Install bolts (75) that hold the clutch housings together. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 85 ± 5
lb.ft. (115 ± 7 N·m).

61. Lower the temperature of bearing (77) and use tooling (A) to install bearing (77) in bearing cage
(76).

62. Install retaining ring (78) that holds the bearing in the bearing cage.

63. Slide input shaft (79) through the bearing and the bearing cage as shown. Use a soft hammer to
install the input shaft on to the bearing.

64. Slide gear (82) on to the input shaft.

65. Heat inner bearing race (80) to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C) and install it on the
input shaft with the machined shoulder of the race toward gear (82).

66. Install retaining ring (81) on the input shaft.

67. Lower the temperature of the bearing and use tooling (A) to install it in bearing cage (83). Install
the retaining ring that holds the bearing in place.

68. Install seal rings (84) on bearing cage (83).

69. Install bearing cage (83) in bearing cage (76) as shown.

70. Install spacer (85) and retaining ring (86) to hold bearing cage (83) to the input shaft.

71. Use tooling (J) to install the lip type seal in bearing cage (83) until it makes contact with the
shoulder in the bearing cage. Make sure the lip of the seal is toward the inside as shown.

72. Install flange (87), washer (88) and bolt (89). Tighten the bolt to a torque of 40 ± 5 lb.ft. (55 ± 7
N·m).

73. Install two 3/8" - 16 NC forged eyebolts or tooling (F) in the bearing cage. Fasten a hoist and
install bearing cage and input shaft assembly (90) as a unit.

74. Install the locks and bolts (91) that hold the bearing cage to the No. 1 carrier.

75. Check to make sure the pistons are free in their clutch housings with tool (H) as follows:

a) Put air (free of water) under a pressure of 100 to 150 psi (690 to 1030 kPa) into each of the four oil
passages.

b) If the pistons do not move, put a small amount of clean SAE 30 oil in each passage. Check for
movement again. If the pistons still do not move, the transmission must be disassembled and the
pistons checked.

76. Install the two bearings in locations (X) with tooling (B). Install the inside bearing until it is even
with the inside surface of the case. Install the outside bearing until it makes contact with the bottom of
the bore in the case. Install the plug.

77. Install the two bearings in location (Y) with tooling (B). Install the bearing until it is even with the
inside surface of the case. Install the outside bearing until it is even with the bottom of the
counterbore in the case.

78. Install seal (92) with tooling (B). Install the seal until it makes contact with the bottom of the
counterbore and with the lip toward the inside of the case. Put clean oil on the lip of the seal.

79. Install detent assembly (96) and shaft (93). Install cam (94). Tighten the nut to a torque of 25 ± 3
lb.ft. (35 ± 4 N·m). Install spring (95).

80. Slide shaft (97) into case. Slide levers (99) on the shaft.

81. Install the bolts and nuts (100) that hold the levers in position on the shaft. Tighten the nuts to a
torque of 25 ± 3 lb.ft. (35 ± 4 N·m).

82. Install spring (98).

83. Put the gasket in position on the transfer gear case. Install two 1/2" - 13 NC forged eyebolts or
tooling (G) in the transmission case. Fasten a hoist to the transmission case. Install the transmission
case on the transfer gear case.

84. Install the bolts that hold the transmission case to the transfer gear case.

85. Install bolts (101) that hold the input shaft bearing cage to the transmission case.

86. Install two sleeves (103) and the O-ring seal in the transmission.

87. Put clean SAE 30 oil on the sleeves.

NOTE: See ASSEMBLE TRANSMISSION HYDRAULIC CONTROL VALVES to assemble the


selector and pressure control valves.

88. Put selector valve assembly (102) in position in the transmission. Install the bolts that hold it.
Tighten the bolts to a torque of 35 ± 3 lb.ft. (45 ± 4 N·m).

89. Install new O-ring seals (104) in the valve assembly.

90. Install pressure control valve (105) and the three bolts that hold it. Tighten the bolts to a torque of
35 ± 3 lb.ft. (45 ± 4 N·m).

91. Install two tubes (106) and O-ring seals in the transmission. Install the manifold over the tubes.
Install the bolts that hold it.

92. Install cover (107) over the transmission hydraulic controls. Install the nuts and washers that hold
it.

93. Remove the transmission and transfer group from tooling (C).

94. Install the O-ring seal on the face of the transfer gears.
