Reflection of the poem “Teaching: Mission and/or Job?

For me, teaching is far more than a job, a duty, or a paycheck. It is a calling with

mission. This calling provides the opportunity to work with learners as they advance through

school. Teachers watch students grow and develop intellectually, guiding them as they tackle

new concepts and ideas and leading them as they become self-sufficient and independent

learners. The lessons that are taught, the methods that are incorporated, and the attitudes of

teachers toward their students and toward learning have a lasting influence on life.

The teachers with missions are not only teaching because it’s their job or to have

students with brilliant minds but they are also destined to produce human beings with heart and

soul for everyone. A human that is capable to love and care for the other people. Teachers are

like disciples of Jesus. They are expected to teach and cater the knowledge of our students.

What kind of knowledge? Knowledge for subjects, for himself, for life, for morality, and for God

and that is through teaching them the knowledge and the truth comes with it and God is the

truth and that is the great assigned task of Him to us – to perform with excellence when doing

our service.

Teaching is definitely hard work. From preschoolers to seniors in high school, despite

the difference in age, all students are just children full of potential and curiosity, waiting for their

teacher to empower their learning and extend their knowledge. Good instruction from teachers

who care promotes success in learning.
