Module I: Nature and Purposes of Assessment

EVALUATION:
1. Illustrate clearly the interdependence and interrelationship among instructional objectives, educational
experiences, and assessments.
It should always put to mind that instructional objective, educational experience and assessment go
together. In preparing an objective, target must be clear and for it to be accomplished there is a need of the
learners to experience it. Along their own experiences goes the assessment to whether they have understood the
concept or not. Its interdependence and interrelationship gives a clear picture of an alignment of the process of
learning- that leads to one direction which is a successful and meaningful one.

2. Discuss the implications of having a teacher who has a poor grasp of the assessment process and its
principle.
A teacher who has a poor grasp of the assessment process and its principle implies that she isn’t ready
yet to be in the field. Since, I do believe that before becoming a professional teacher, there must be a full
understanding of what it really like to become a teacher, full acceptance of the job and responsibility of
becoming a teacher. And one of it is to prepare a well verse assessment for the learners. If it happens that there
is a poor grasp of it, it would mean that the needs of the learners to be addressed is being compromised.

REFLECTION:
Why is there also a need to assess at home?
There is a need to assess at home because learning is a continuous process and I firmly agree that
consistency is the key to a wider understanding for a given concept in a particular context. One more thing,
parents and guardians are the teachers’ partners in instilling knowledge and wisdom to the learners. In this way,
parents will actually be aware how far their children are learning.
It is really a good routine to assess learners at home so that they are expected to really bring their
learning in wherever they are going.

Module 2 :Principles of High Quality Classroom Assessment
EVALUATION:
1. Explain why validity implies reliability but not the reverse.
Validity describes whether the construct that is aimed to be measured, is indeed being measured by the
instrument or is actually the extent to which the scores actually represent the variable they are intended to while
Reliability is another term for consistency. If one person takes the same personality test several times and
always receives the same results, the test is reliable.
Reliability and validity are independent of each other. A measurement maybe valid but not reliable, or
reliable but not valid. Suppose your bath room scale was reset to read 10 pound lighter. The weight it reads will
be reliable but will not be valid, since it is not reading your actual weight.

2. Generate some other qualities that you believe contribute to making good assessment.
Some other qualities that contribute to making good assessment is having the ability to design a goal-
oriented assessment which at the same time addresses the needs and interests of the students. It must also be
smart, authentic, doable, specific and accurate to better facilitate leaning and understanding.

REFLECTION
List down your personal experiences of unfair assessment.
My personal experiences of unfair assessment were first, setting a standard answer for opinionated
questions. It happens and indeed it is unfair because opinions may vary according to how the question is being
understood. Second was, giving a lot of actually the same activities but one is only recorded. Well I had this
part of me which got confused on the significance of giving all most the same activities for a single subject
matter but only 1 activity is recorded. Well it may be a sort of formative assessment but at least a credit must be
given to learners who do good every step of the way. Also, instructing students to review notes from cover to
cover but only to have most likely few questions gotten from there. It must also be understood that effort and
time of students must be valued.
