My Philosophy Statement on Education

I believe that a child is a unique individual full of potential and possibilities. As an educator, I believe my
job is to offer each child an opportunity to get closer to their full potential. Each child that enters my
classroom is a future member of society. My students will learn how to be in control of their educational
career in a cooperative learning environment. Every child that enters my classroom is entitled to a safe and
positive environment. I choose to cultivate the society that I will live in by offering its future citizens with
the tools that they will need to govern as critical thinkers.
Children have an idea of what they want to become when they are adults. The world may facilitate an idea
of what is more likely of that child because of their environment. However, my classroom will be the one
place where there are no boundaries to any possibilities. It will be a place where a child that only has
interest in a peanut can find 300 possibilities for that one nut. My classroom will be a safe and positive
environment where they will receive fuel for their fire of potential. It will be a place where ideas are
shared and guidance is provided without negative criticism.
I believe that a positive learning environment should include guidance of a study relevant to your own life
and interest. The only way that children will be able to learn is if they are able to find the importance in
what they are learning. How will this lesson help them become who they want to be as adults? I help my
students understand why it is so important to know pronouns, algebraic equations, the growth of plants,
and the history of Texas by showing them what they do not know can hurt them more than what they do
know.
It is very important for children to learn the basics of education. No one can disagree that every child that
has graduated from high school should at least know how to read, write, and do arithmetic. But, it is just
as important that our children graduate and know how to be critical thinkers. Our children should know
how to read new material, find what is important, and apply that new knowledge. In my classroom, my
students learn how to take it one step further by analyzing that information, synthesizing it, and evaluating
it on their terms. My students will become thinkers, not just knowledge containers.
Teaching for me is an opportunity for growth. It's opportunity to help children grow intellectually in an
environment where their potential and possibilities have no end. Its a chance to show children that
nothing is out of their reach no matter their differences. I have a strong passion for learning, and truly,
believe that every child has that same passion inside. As an educator, I plan to bring that passion out of my
students and help it grow.
